Gran Turismo 5

Post by mesh control »

Anybody else here excited for this?

Confirmed features:
-Day to night transitions
-Kart racing
-Car model damage
-Dynamic Weather
-Track editor
-1,000 + cars (no Porsche, sadly)
-WRC (will include co-driver and point to point rallys), NASCAR, Super GT.
-Top Gear test track! 8)

Things that concern me are whether the game will be able to run at a consistent 60fps with weather effects. Rally physics in the past games have been so lackluster and feel strange. Engine, exhaust, and gearbox sound have been terrible in the past (or poorly mixed) and hopefully see even more improvement over the GT Time Trial build.

And let's not forget that GT5 has built-in support for use with the newer 3D LCD/Plasma based TV monitors as well.

GT planet has some links from TGS demonstrating the weather on Eiger and it looks simply amazing (I would post, but it's blocked here at work).

Really interested to see if Forza will introduce weather to their series.

Time to ante up and buy a racing seat.

Had never heard of this series before, so I looked it up.
Would I be right in describing it as sort of like HOME with cars?

Can't wait for this. I skipped 4 because of lack of interest at the time, but with the plethora of features planned for 5 I don't think I can pass this one up.

That almost seems a release. How long ago did Prologue come out? 2005?

lol, really? The GT series is 10+ years old and arguably the best racing sim for Playstation. GT 5 is a must if you like the genre.

Dec. 2007 actually.

What's really shocking is that the entire Forza Motorsport series has been released between GT4 and GT5. Certainly puts things in perspective.

I am hoping Gran Turismo 5 is as epic as I picture it to be.

I also hope Sony doesn't go overboard with the DLC gouging. I've heard bad rumors about having to "buy" the online multiplayer as an unlock. And they can pretty much control what tracks you're able to play from the retail game online.

Gouging shouldn't be so bad. When I heard Raiden IV had the two extra ships as DLC, I paused. Then I learned they were 80 MS points each. Two dollars!! These games must cost a risky mint to make that they need to subtract two dollars from the price to make it more appealing on the marketplace.

I'd imagine GT5 is no different. I think the price would be $100+ if they actually charged what they needed to charge. They need to keep the marketplace price down.

I believe that the only DLC Polyphony will be offering is 5 cars that come with the limited edition.

Polyphony hasn't released an official car list as of yet, so all that's known is what has been shown, which is is catalogued on GTPlanet : http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=86724

Personally, I'm hoping for some S12 Silvias this time around. Correction, otherwise heads shall roll.

I think you made a post recently which I actually agreed with, but I cannot paid enough to search the millions of pages of posts you've made to be certain.

...wait! It was actually Prometheus who had wise words, false alarm. At least it's never about quality over quantity anyway, right?

GT5 concerns, I say delay away. Perhaps it will come out far enough into the future where PS3s will be cheaper and people will still be interested to play the game.

The continous delay of the release date is getting boring. Damn I can't remember how many tmes has it been delayed already, but that's not the worst thing about it, but the comments made by its production manager wich is going to have one of the greatest facepalms in video games history.
Nevertheless I am love racing games and I am eagerly awaiting this one but I am not really sure about it and how it will turn out. Take a look at GT mobile, what a let down of game it has been.

The continual delays only better the project. They'll probably keep it up until they're 100% satisfied, and that's fine.

I still get the impression of speed is too slow in these games. Rolling at 80mph seems plausible but looking at 80mph in these games looks like 50mph. Which is why when I play the old games I always fly off the track.

I doubt that it this final delay is going to improve the game further since It's finished, at least that's my opinion.
I have to agree with some online publication where I read that the delay was decided to include the new firmware to stop piracy, since this new firm blocks the jailbreak. Till some degree it makes sense since I don't think that Sony wants to watter down the sales of one of its biggest games.

I want this game to do well because it's a high profile title for the PS3 - and I personally prefer my PS3 over my 360 - but I just don't care about realistic racers. I can't get into them no matter how much I try.

Something tells me most people interested in this will buy it when it comes out regardless of any number of delays anyways. It has a very loyal following and a couple more months won't scare them away.

Well, some folks have had it pre-ordered for over a year now so yeah, nothing would change. I'm not a huge fan of realistic racers (since it, along with nitro-based "street" racing, killed classic arcade drift racing) but I like seeing technological progress. At this point, I don't really expect it to surpass much beyond GT4 and Forza Motorsport 3, but I do expect a lot of cars.

Personally I'm not sure if I'm gonna pick this up. I'm not much of a racing sim fan and I got somewhat bored after playing Need for Speed Shift. But GT5 has a tutorial that teaches you how to play those games, showing basic and advanced techniques (something I REALLY need), along with kart racing. I don't really care about anything else.

Maybe I'm better off renting the game rather than buying it.

I find myself in kind of a funny spot. On the one hand I've not really had an interestin in GTsince the Forza series launched. On the other I really, really want to drive the Top Gear Test track. Feels foolish but that's my only commitment to GT5 at this point.

The worst thing about the delays is that ports of arcade racing games will never happen, because at every moment in time there is a GT5 around the corner which never is. Japanse arcade racing developers seem to have been fooled/mislead by polyphoney! and are afraid people will laugh at the unrealistic physics of arcade racing games. har har har. it´s unrealistic therefor it sucks!

The reason given by Sony for the delay is "piracy concerns" which seems a bit bonkers - how many people have cracked their PS3 globally? surely not enough to worry about whether people are going to be downloading a 50 gig D/L of the latest realease in the biggest Sony franchise?

What happens if FW3.50 gets cracked right away?

Anyways, as per above - delay away until it's done. It's taken forever to come out so an extra 2, 4, 6, 12 months isn't going to kill anyone.

Meanwhile, over at arcade racing land, it -really- would have been nice for Namco to deliver on that Ridge Vision 2010 project :/
