As long as you are fine with the resale value being 1/5 of the original poster price, then yes this is a good idea.

I have no resale value in mind. I only bought them for about $30 each, and I don't think I'll get tired of these anytime soon, and even if I did, I'd be fine with just throwing them away and replacing it with another picture in that frame.

Even if you properly custom frame them, then they're pretty much permanently mounted. Resale value is shot unless you have someone local to buy the item.

For reference purposes, I finally got a quote for custom framing services from a nice local establishment.

I have 2 Cave posters, both from DFK. The quote that I received is for a black metallic frame, clear glass, and UV filter. Oh and it will be mounted, but no mat.

Price was $505 total for the pair. This place doesn't have sales but after you have something framed, they always send you a $100 off coupon for the next time you do business. So in this case it brings the total to $405, which I would say is a pretty typical price.

That's nuts, I had a quote for £55 for a basic silver framed job round the corner from me. Think I'm going to get a few done when I actually have somewhere to hang em.

I think $150 is possible here.. but that's at a chain with a coupon. I figure the extra $50 each in my case is worthwhile since I'm dealing with a nice small, locally owned business... and for the UV filter. I mentioned earlier in the thread that this room (unfortunately) has florescent lighting. I need to remedy that someday.

Whomever ships over cabs should throw 10 B1 frames in there. They cost like 3000 yen at Tokyuu Hands.

Edit: whoops, that was meant to be a pm. Stupid ipod touch. Thanks for the info adverse, thought cave may have printed some up. I'm going to look into group order frames though, such a thing is a long time coming. :)

Inverse lol

I just found that pic on the net man. I think you'd have to be an arcade op to get one.

I can almost guarantee the job brentsg is getting is actual solid wood framing, glued together, w/ paper backing, and all (what I got). Quite a different animal than the extruded aluminum frame kit you can get at your local craft store for a fraction of the price (what you'd be getting). If I'm wrong, brent is getting ripped off and £55 for a pro job is a steal :D

Well my frame was metal of some sort, but did include the nice backing and UV filtering glass. But I actually e-mailed the lady pictures of your frames and she said they can do that for "a bit extra" but I'm not sure what that amounts to. I'm supposed to stop by and look at the options. So far I've just phone shopped.

But this is a seriously upscale art gallery. I'm sure there are better options out there, budget-wise. My wife isn't all that keen on videogame posters so whatever I do has to at least look professional. So far I've got the thumbs up to display the DFK Cave Matsuri poster, and the DFK BL poster, so I wanna treat them right. Unfortunately she gave the thumbs down to Ibara Black Label. :(

Could be, not sure.
It's an art and framing store, so they'll be cutting the glass/frame to size. I only really wanted a square aluminium/brushed metal frame anyway though, I think they look nice. As long as you don't snatch it off the wall every five seconds to check the weight, it doesn't make to much difference aesthetically.

Thanks man.

Yeah.. I was out doing VDay shopping yesterday and I passed by a Michaels and also a small privately owned frame shop. I need to see if I can get back out and get a couple more quotes so I can pull the trigger.

Yup. Finally got this one finished. Bought it in Feb-2008. Frame was £56.18 shipped. Took me a while to decide between a dark grey or a maroon - glad I went with the latter!

Pleased with it :)

Looks great Cools!

I have one of those posters but its been folded so I couldn't bother hanging it. :|

Seems like the cheap Ikea frames have been discontinued. Thinking I might go with Dave K.'s method of framing, when I get a poster or two.

Some bubble wrap and a tube does wonders, along with $30 or so for EMS shipping.

Oh I mean how/where could I get such posters from, since Cave don't send their stuff outside of Japan. I shouldn't write posts and play games at the same time

Well Cave prints an initial print run of posters for sale with new arcade kits. That's probably what SP has in his pic there. Those must be purchased here and there from individuals if you don't buy new kits.

Cave also reprints some of the posters and produces new ones for their festivals, like the one coming up in a couple of weeks. These must be purchased through a proxy in Japan, if you know someone. They aren't all that expensive but the middle-man fees and shipping will push up the $$.

I bought the horrible IKEA frames for some of my biggest posters. Goddamn frame is so ugly it makes even my Carrier Airwing poster look like crap!

Superpangs picture made my decision. I need to get some nice looking custom frames and I need them now.

I've had some on my list for a while. I've still got a few. Even got a rolled Progear one if you really wanna spend the $$$$$ on it.

Doesn't most of Europe follow the A1,A2... B1,B2... standards? Wouldn't frames be relatively easy to find? They sell B1 frames here for like 3000 yen (maybe cheaper). Impossible to ship though, other than freight.

A sizes are easy to find. B sizes and other metric measures are not. In the UK at least.
