Pc Shmups: Which To avoid which to download?

Hi guys,

Im looking to create the ultimate shmup database on my Pc but 50% of the ones I have downlaoded are boring, generic and are generaly lame.

Does anyone know of any decent ones that are not completely obvious?

Also i tend to use super smartjoy rather than keyboard so im not too fond of keyboard or mouse only shmups.

No, the release will be, at earliest, at C79. And that's extremely unlikely. Expect more likely into next year some time. Might get a new web trial release at some point though.

But even still, the current web trial is easily one of the best doujin shooters out there and well worth a download.

Crimzon Clover is easily superior to some professionally made titles. I actually want to play for score in it, and not even most CAVE titles can convince me to do that.

Also, get MAME, and get a collection together.

I want to put my claws on the Double Break mode... Crimzon Clover seems to add that level of exaggeration that enemy bullets alone can't give: it makes your ship so overpowered and chaotic it's awesome. Well worth the name "Break" mode.

Everything that people mentioned and the localisations by Rockin' Android, like Gundemonium Collection, Suguri Perfect Edition, QUALIA (Q-Lione) and Flying Red Wine Barrel.

I would also mention Diadra Empty (which is close to Fantasy Zone but cranks up the level of exaggeration quite a lot) but good luck finding it since it's been sold out for a while... Hope the author will reprint it for C79. It recently got a patch (version 1.54PLUS) that apparently allows the game to run on Windows 7, as well as fixing a couple of issues.

Actually, Yotsubane said he will finish the game in December, so it will very likely be released at C79... Unless it get delayed AGAIN.

On topic: Here's some good freeware shmups for you -- ToriTatsu, Crimzon Clover v0.20, Patriot Dark, and Cho Ren Sha 68k. You might also want try some X.X games: many peoples like it very much (I don't). Yutori Factory games usually have some solid-designed bullets pattern, but the scoring system is flawed and they requires a god-like PC to run at full speed.

Oh and hydorah is a good gradius clone, G-type is gradius / r-type hybrid both are freeware.

A free vert thats easy to beat but allot of fun is astroport's demolition gunner: ISAD, it has a shield system which allows you to take 2 or 3 hits before you die. Im a big fan of shmups that have this system or a autobomb like x.x games, because as long as the rest of the game is a true japanese shmup multi hit systems allow totals shmup noobs to stay in the game longer so they can develop their skills without resorting to bomb spamming or credit feeding. Also if they manage to 1CC it they should descover the buzz so theyll hopefully play the harder shmups with the correct attitude. Demolition gunners is a great choice for a noob shmupper as it doesnt allow continues aswell.

Another vote for G-Type. It's a fan game mashup, but it's a lot better than most of the Gradius games (so it goes without saying its better than all of the R-Type games kekeke).
I also liked Dan Da Dan. It's an incomplete game but it's a nice shooter/puzzle game in the good kind of way.
Genetos, Cho Ren Sha, Hydprah are all good. Just started playing Blue Wish and it's fun for a bullet hell.
Don't forget in development-but-still-playable Xenofighters over on the dev forum.
