Yeah, that's the easiest mod there is. I use a chisel and hammer.
Re: Super Famicom to Super NES adapter?
All you need is a pair of pliers and some elbow grease. I've already typed it all out, so just check out the Super Famicom FAQ I wrote many years ago: http://stevethefish.net/superfamicom/sfcfaq.htm#play
The FAQ is horribly outdated, with references to Lik-Sang and Buy-Rite, and newsgroups like rec.arts.anime.games. However, the answer to what you want to know is in the link provided above.

There's no converter?

No converter needed, they are expensive and the hardware is the same except for the shape of the cartridge.
I agree with the 2 minutes and a pair of pliers response.

There are converters, but it makes no sense to buy one when you can convert a SNES to play imports for free. Also, there are some games that do not work with the converter slots. Lik Sang used to sell them, but I don't know where else to get one these days other than on eBay. Again, you're wasting your money. The converters were made back when people didn't know any better.evil_ash_xero wrote:There's no converter?

A Game Genie could work, but it's harder to find than the tools for the mod.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

I didn't like the idea of unclean breakages, so I just unscrewed my Snes and lift the whole lid off to play superfami carts.ROBOTRON wrote:No converter needed, they are expensive and the hardware is the same except for the shape of the cartridge.

I collect older game systems, so my SNES sits on a shelf (as clean as the day it left the factory) for display purposes only. I bought a FC3 Plus to actually play my SNES carts which amazingly accepts both U.S/Japanese carts without any tampering whatsoever.Skykid wrote:I didn't like the idea of unclean breakages, so I just unscrewed my Snes and lift the whole lid off to play superfami carts.ROBOTRON wrote:No converter needed, they are expensive and the hardware is the same except for the shape of the cartridge.

I wasn't too keen on altering the SNES I've had since 1992. I like it the way it is. I bought another deck off of ebay and did this modification to that. It made sense at the time.
Sentimental reasons are good enough. The fact that Super Nintendo control decks can be found for less than $10 almost anywhere in North America suggests it's not a huge investment to preserve your original console. Personally, I've never spent more than $5 on a Super so pulling the tabs wasn't a big deal for me as replacements are easy enough to source.Alec wrote:I wasn't too keen on altering the SNES I've had since 1992. Evil Ash,
Found a blog article about the Super Adaptor:

It goes both ways, which is handy. Works on both a SNES and a SFC.
