I'm guessing you have to play through some of the other modes or meet some requirement to unlock the harder modes, but I haven't gotten around to doing that yet.

Also, anyone found a good stage to get 1,000 Nagoya? Most obvious one I've found is the large UFO boss early on in the game, but I'm only getting like 300+ on him alone.
Insane is unlocked from beating the 2 included bonus courses
Nightmare is unlocked from beating the 99 Challenge missions

Just sit right under the UFO each time he fires his spread and don't shoot back at him (time him out) so that he can do his pattern enough times

Thanks for the info.

I guess I misunderstood Nagoya. I thought you had to shoot at the enemy, then any shots coming out shortly after that would make it so you could pass through them. Apparently it's just a proximity thing. Neat.

I'm about to jump on this now... burning a disc full of instrumental music for music mode.

I dl'ed space invaders and skystage. I think SI is a masterpiece with a killer soundrack. Highly recomended!!!!!
Not so sure about sky stage tho.....I was initially impressed but after a while it just seemed kinda drab and boring. The soundtrack is also weak imo

Same. I downloaded both and bought Space Invaders. I'm having a lot of fun with it on a stick. Don't let the earlier posts discourage you.

SRSLY thinking about making a separate thread specifically for Music Stages, they can be easy or hard depending on what songs you pick.

If anyone's got the courage, go download ZREO's (Zelda Reorchestrated) "Battle Theme" from Adventure of Link and play it on this...you will die...a lot.

Any songs by Ingwie Malmsteen practically encourage high chain combos.

"Advent: One Winged Angel" is a good stage song to play in.

Also a few tracks from FFXIII are pretty hard to play.

Mu-12's theme "Sword of Doom" (BlazBlue: Continuum Shift) is actually a good stage with an epic boss after it. I can't stress that enough.

Songs with lots of symphonics tend to add more "terrain" to dodge, and songs with faster synchopation have more enemies, as far as I can figure.

Finally got the 1cc with Variable, 82.4 mil score and currently 3rd place on xbla leaderboard :D

Sort of surprised the game kept growing on me once I started playing for 1cc and some score.. very surprised how cleverly some of the levels are designed for chaining. That and the later stages visuals, music and bosses are pretty epic.. I was pretty freaked out by 5-5 bosses theme (scarecrow) while I had no lives left and had only no-missed the boss once before.

Blade: I wish the music generator could make stuff like Bonus 2-5 with multiple bosses at once, could get some crazy combinations.

edit: oh yeah, I forgot to mention: I've been playing the game in 640x480 and like the look of the game in that res. I think it also makes the background easier to differentiate, I never had any problems with the visibility.

Forgive me if this has been covered already, but if I play on a higher difficulty in Normal Mode and I beat it will I get all the trophies/achievements for that particular difficulty and below it? Say I beat it on normal, will I get the trophy for normal and easy automatically?

Nope. Just for the difficulty you beat it at. Of course, if you're just after the achievements, you can select stage 5-6 to start on after finishing it on any difficulty.

lol, you can get the "difficulty" trophies by just beating the last boss, unless you're the type who wants to play it straight for score...

I wish I could upload my music stage score...record breaking chains, man.

It's a shame they didn't do different leaderboards for each ship. Would be great to see what scores could be achieved with the Classic ship.

I can't stand the dpad controls in this game. It's like a mouse with correction on. Impossible to turn off too, isn't it?

anything new to hate, cry or complain about today?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

this game gets really good at 3-1 on normal. I was trudging through early stages, and when it hit 3-1 it became very awesome. enjoying.

Just started playing this game yesterday; I agree about how it picks up at level 3. Starting to feel a little Compile love (Zanac & Space Megaforce). The super short levels are weird, but it makes it easier for memorization.

Anyone know how to avoid stage 3-6's boss attack where it explodes into a giant white circle, filling all portions of the screen except like one pixel in each corner? It seems random which corner is safe and which one will have the boss float toward you and kill you. I lose 2 lives on this stage every time because of this attack.

I'm pretty sure the size of the sphere depends on the amount of damage you cause to the boss while it is charging it. Just make sure to attack it before you move to a corner and both should be safe.

I support this. I always shoot the thing at maximum while it is charging the sphere (and even the sphere itself) and both corners are always safe.

By the way, is it just me or the field weapon (the one with the circle around your ship that gets every ennemy into it) is the best for scoring ? Also, about that weapon, is there a way to easily maintain its radius at half its maximum value in order to get maximum firepower ?

Is this game HARD? The demo gave the impression the game is really easy, just throwing a ton of harmless enemies at you to score high. The few times I died were all stupid, really avoidable deaths. The game looks fun but I'm not buying it if I can beat it on my first day playing.

Also, how many stages this game has?

It's a pretty easy 1cc on normal mode, took me a couple of days at least. There are 6 stages on each of the 5 worlds and they get longer the further you get. The game is a little over an hour long and a bit of a memorizer, so 1cc is mostly about endurance and remembering the later stages. You can get much higher scores on hard mode due to boss milking but a lot of the stages get much harder.

What about hard/insane/nightmare modes, what are they like? Much much harder, or not so easy?
Do you need to play the whole game in one sitting to get your score in the leaderboards?
Separate leaderboards per difficulty level?
Is your score saved to the leaderboards if you're not playing at default settings?

Sorry for the barrage of questions :)

hard: enemies actually shoot bullets
insane: hard + suicide bullets
nightmare: more bullets than hard + suicide bullets?

Hard mode is much harder but you can get through most waves with some simple bullet herding. Lots of risky boss milking to do.. I don't think playing on insane or nightmare will give any advantage in scoring, you cant point blank the suicide bullets for points.

Personally I don't like playing the game for score much; its too long, too many strict chains, score isnt "balanced" between the levels and too much risky boss milking for me. I think I'll just do a hard mode 1cc later since playing for score is a pain.

There is a single leaderboard for default settings & normal or higher difficulty for each mode. Pretty sure it needs to be a run starting from the first stage of said mode, I remember someone saying otherwise though.

From what I've seen, lots of people mention the field weapon as being too overpowered.

Field makes stages kind of too easy and scoring unbalanced : 1900 chains in some 2-X, 18.000.000 in a single stage. But some bosses take real long to kill, cant beat Crab with it as of now...

Bought Space Invaders today and spent the afternoon playing. The game is awesome! Long, challenging and fun. Finally a good shmup for the PS3.

Anyone noticed that the lock-on ship is exactly like the one in Rayforce? Maybe the other ones are references to other shmups too.
