What's so great about Blast Wind?
The game just arrived in the mail today(along with three other random Saturn games).
All I can say is well..it certainly isn't worth the $20 I paid for it.
The gameplay was fairly standard except with the added gimmick of pressing buttons to change paths as the stage progressed. I didn't really see the point of it except maybe Technosoft did it to hide the fact that the level designs really suck.
The stages are bland and convulted. Enemies just sort of fly in while all kinds of jumbled stuff sits there and considers itself a "background". At first I thought my Saturn or the disc was damaged but apparently that wasn't the case. I died a couple times mainly due to the awful backgrounds hiding enemy bullets.
Weapon system is severely uninspired.. you have the forward shot that crawls/reflects off walls and the homing shot...oh and some bombs(yay!). The enemies look like standard Technosoft fare. You've got the flying heaps of junk, mechs, ships, and a bunch of other crap. Even the bosses were very plain and uninteresting. Music was probably the highpoint but even then I'd rather listen to Hyper Duel, ThunderForce V, or hell even Wolf Fang SS(excellent arranged soundtrack).
Really now I'm surprised this game gets as much of a look as it does. The game reminds me of something I downloaded on MAME just because it had a cool title like Bio Advanced Chimera Beast Saber.
Am I missing something or does the game really just suck? I'm leaning towards the latter but hey let me know what you think.

I think you posted this just to brag about that dealAll I can say is well..it certainly isn't worth the $20 I paid for it.

I'll take it off your hands if you're interested in selling...I sold mine awhile back before trying it on the harder difficulties...I have a feeling it gets a lot better once you put it above the defaults. But as it is normally, yeah, pretty bland. Besides the subtitle (Ultimate Destroyer!) and the music.

Now that that's out of the way, I like Blast Wind OK; it's nothing great but it's got that TS feel to it. Pretty easy game that should be played on higher difficulty, like Neon said.
It wasn't Saturn only, it was also released in the arcades. It's a pretty good game, as far as I'm concerned. Not as cool as TF4 & 5, but very solid, and as mentioned, cool music. It has an interesting feature of the ship/mech transformation that makes it fairly unique (at least in the way it's implemented).

All I can say is this...Blast Wind gets more play time on my Saturn than SilverGun ever will.
There might not be anything "special" about it, but its still a cool shmup.
Personally, I get into the music, and the overall speed of the game.
Its only the graphics that aren't up to standards. Then again, graphics aren't everything.
