Slump wrote:Just found another Imperial Russian Stout I can recommend as a must try to anyone who like a good strong, dark beer - Stone Imperial Russian Stout (http://www.stonebrew.com/irs/). I've never seen an IRS from Stone so as soon as I saw it I decided to pick it up. Apparently it's one of their limited issue spring beers, who knew? Anyway, it's 10.5% and reminds me a lot of an Old Rasputin however it definitely has a stronger, bitter coffee taste when it hits the back of your tongue which I thought tasted pretty good. Give it a try if your up for one of the darkest beers money can buy! 8)
I drank a 3 year old Stone IRS recently and it was an overload of chocolate goodness.

Any of you guys tried the Sprecher shit? It's about the only foray into non-pisswater beer I've made, and I think it's delicious. Their IPA, Belgian style dubbel, Russian imperial, and whatever other ones I had the pleasure of trying were absolutely delicious and I can no longer drink your common, everyday shit-beers.

Stone's IRS is always good. I recently went back to their Barleywine Ale (Old Guardian) and it did not live up to my memories. Given that the Double Bastard is pretty much a Barleywine, I'd rather have that.

Never heard of Sprecher, but there is so much microcraft beer cropping up it is becoming impossible to know it all.

Old Ras is a classic. I had Gulden Draak a few months ago and it is money.

Wow, it's a shame you don't know Sprecher, because they've been making the best root beer evar for like 20-25 years ;3 It's a small company here in Wisconsin, but their shit gets around, so if it's available near you, I'd give it a shot.

It definitely doesn't age like a barleywine. I recently drank 07 vintages of both beers and Old Guardian obliterated the Double Bastard, and the 3 year mark is supposed to be the sweet spot for Double Bastard.

I think I recall seeing some of their beers in Pennsylvania. I looked at their distribution area and it's decently large. I'll have a look when I'm down there buying cases this weekend, the Black Bavarian sounds delicious.
