It's higher-res than the title screen, and also has the ships. the website info is also positioned so that it won't be obscured by the bottom info. ;)

But I do appreciate the nicer wallpaper.

Ok so I beat the first loop twice in a row (woohoo) but how do you reach the second? It just ends.

Also, do the touch controls make it easier? I can't imagine the pcb being this easy.

It's a good bit easier than the PCB. And yes the controls are a lot of it.

Yeah, I get the feeling I'm gonna get a rude awakening once the 360 version hits, lol.

I have the same feeling. So how do you get to the second loop?

Never mind:
There are two paths for each stage, with the second one being accessible under certain conditions; should the appropriate requirements be met, the bosses from the original DoDonPachi will reappear as mid-bosses with upgraded graphics and fiercer attacks. Hibachi, the series' trademark true last boss, only appears after completing stage 5 for the second time in an Ura loop and destroying its war-machine form Taisabachi (an interesting pun, since the translation is Colonel Bee and it's indeed piloted by Gottvin himself), its 「極殺兵器」 - Supreme Killing Weapon Hibachi core capable of extremely brutal attacks and, a series' first, counterattacks whenever the counter laser is used. As usual, a protective shield is deployed around Hibachi whenever invincibility is granted to the player, in the form of a bomb or hyper activation. For less skilled players, an easier second loop can be accessed meeting less tight requirements (namely collecting 35 hidden bees and not using a continue, or not dying at all regardless of how many bees collected), whereas the Ura loop demands collection of all 45 hidden bees, no deaths and exploding no more than two bombs.
Looks like it's secretly fucking hard if you want to beat it properly. I can't see the iPhone battery lasting long enough to see the Ura loop!!

Haha, yeah. It drains the battery. And the iPhone gets pretty hot too.

Has anyone found out what this ????? is yet? It is on the scoreboards too.

Got some of the original bosses to appear, but only in the first 3 stages.
Sill no 2nd loop for me though, I've yet to look at a bee map, most I've found so far is about 20.

Funny one star review on iTunes "all you do is move and shoot". Already has twice as many ratings as Galuda2 if I'm not mistaken.

This game (and Espgaluda) got me into the bullet hell genre. So I'm kind of new to this type of game.
But the game is so awesome, I'm debating whether I should buy an JP Xbox 360 or not for the incoming 360 release.

It's good to see these releases opening up the genre to new players, regardless of what we think of the ports. Imagine if it kick-starts a shmups renaissance? Would be great to see some other companies enter the genre.

Yeah I can picture tons of people start to get into the genre, but then come here and get flamed for a stupid post which will then make them realize only complete turds play these games... :?

Honestly though, I can see the genre growing in the future partially due to iTunes, but also the console online marketplaces. Think about how many people have seen something like R-type for download and though "damn, I used to love that game - too bad they stopped making shooters though"...

Another thing I've considered: even though I'm not crazy about achievements, in alot of ways they are helping the cause. Gamers are now interested in mastering a game rather than just playing through once, and it makes them feel extra satisfaction by earning points (mmmm delicious points).

iShmups arn't going to single handedly revive the genre, but they are definitely going to open a lot of peoples eyes. And US Deathsmiles and a couple games on iPhone are hopefully only the beginning for Cave - and if anyone can light the path, it's them.

it was a failed trolling attempt from apple arcade.

Anyways this game is incredible. I'd say i wasn't a fan of the arranged BGM but since you can switch it off it makes all the difference. They really took alot of time to address several minor details (multiple button placement options is one example) and overall creates a pleasant experience. Didn't cave say they would give a hint on the next iphone port with the DDPR release?

I'll be surprised if their next iPhone game is anything other than Futari, call it a hunch.

A thought I had, what would be wrong with having the option to select ship speed so it plays more accurate to the PCB? I'm enjoying the game tons, but it feels like cheating...

Well yeah, in the PCB release they seem to always give a few different types of ships.. varied shot types and speed. There's almost always one that feels a bit too slow and one that feels a bit too fast. But in the touch-screen versions that's gone and you move each ship exactly like you wish. It definitely makes playing the game much easier regardless of ship type.

I would actually bet on Ketsui: it ranked fairly high if I recall correctly, plus in one of the video Masa KING shared about ESP II he showed a customized iSomething with a DOOM back-cover.

And I'm lovin' it.

Hmmm....I just did a run and didn't die once, and I still didn't get the second loop...maybe it's because I was playing on Easy?

The touch screen definitely made the game so much easier, I can make it to 1-5 boss every time I play on hard. I doubt I can do it on PCB or the future 360 port.

I'm not sure how you could emulate varied ship speeds on the touch screen. I imagine it would be disastrous if the ship didn't quite follow your finger (run out of screen space to allow moving comes to mind).

Is open feint offline for everyone or is it just me? EspII's open feint works just fine.

Why do I have to press the hyper button a few times to make it work? I don't recall having such a hard time with the buttons in esp 2.

How come it's $5 for you an £5+ for the UK?

Can't complain much anyway, having great fun with this. Still don't like auto-bomb in general - it's just not required - but on an iphone I suppose it's necessary to some degree. The arcade ver. not so much.

Ah, thanks. I should have grabbed it earlier, cept I didn't know I was getting an apple thingy. Lotsa fun anyhow, really finding that I prefer playing with shot style or whatever as it's more challenging without a ton of auto bombs. All we need now is a bonus update pack with the bl soundtrack, that would be nice. :)

I want to say that it was €3 for the Europeans for that same period.

I only just today realized how to work the SM scoring better, and went from 2000th place to 1000th place. :) Number 2 locally, but I'm sure that doesn't mean too much.

But I'm still happy at a palpable improvement in score.
