Arcade Joysticks - Yea or Nay?

All right here we go... So I was just wondering what you lads use to play for 'shmups' (God I hate using that term, hehe). Do you prefer traditional controllers, or arcade joysticks? I can't picture myself playing Raiden IV with an arcade joystick (is that a sin?). Especially when you need to slightly tap the d-pad to get through those bullets. If a lot of you agree that joysticks are better then I need to get one immediately! I wouldn't mind improving my high-scores.

You improve your high scores by playing the game, studying its mechanics and practicing, practicing, practicing.

The question of best control method comes up on regular intervals. It's a matter of what you're used to and what you're comfortable with. The forum's best DDP player uses a keyboard, there are some great pad players and some equally great ones who use a stick. It boils down to the individual's skill with the game itself.
