It's a pasted cut list from the edit in the link in my post. The edit clocks in at 96 minutes, which in itself is quite appealing.Lordstar wrote:is this a copy pasta or something you have taken apon yourself to write?

Absolutely right. I forget it was a Spielberg film. Leigh Brackett helped right the screen play and I actually like her pulp stuff that I have read.

I'm gonna have to look into these fan edits. I LOVE the original Star Wars(the first two more than the last one..it was good though), but the shit he has done to them since then has just made them unwatchable for me. I also appreciate(sarcasm) how when he release the original ones on DVD(from the laser disc..gah), he ruined the lovely painted covers. He just can't give us original trilogy fans a break.

I've read the novels to episode 1 and 2. The plot is actually fairly well thought out. The problems I have are the laughable midichlorians and the immaculate conception. Lucas again took something cool like The Force and wizzed it down his legs with the midichlorian crap. Episode 3 was fairly decent, although it still introduces some ridiculous moments like those missiles that burst into little droids that slowly start tearing ships apart. Why not just make the missiles blow shit up? Ridiculous. Anakin's final turning to the Dark Side seemed a bit rushed and convenient, but then again it was looking for awhile that Episode 3 would've been a 3 hour movie at least. His dedication to the 2 hours, 20 minutes time constraint hurt the plot. And what's with that "younglings" crap?
The problem with the prequels is that Lucas no longer has Lawrence Kasdan and others to keep him in line. Lucas built up a little empire for himself by employing a bunch of "Yes mans" and nobody seemed to challenge or question his goofball ideas. "Oh, a big stupid gecko who acts like an annoying, unfunny cartoon character? Brilliant!" It's hard from any of them to voice their concerns with Lucas's cock in their mouths. It worked better with Lucas behind the main plot and driving the visuals and creativity and leaving the writing and directing to others. And Lucas's copout excuse for his bad directing that goes something like, "My movies are for the visuals, not the plot or the acting" is a bunch of crap. Episode 2's wooden "romance" scenes are so intolerable and wretched, but it's not the fault of the actual actors. The dude who played Anakin did a good job at being a believable as an impulsive, quick-to-anger young man, but as a romantic he failed bad. A New Hope had fairly bad acting and dialogue ("I knew I meant more to you than money!"), and guess what? Lucas was the director. Empire had some brilliant acting, but Kershner was directing. Spielberg was offering to save episodes 2 and 3 by offering to direct them, but Lucas insisted on smelling his own farts and believing they didn't stink.
In the end though, the Star Wars movies were meant to be a tribute to the corny space opera serials, and it succeeded in in that. But they were made to be fairly believable, at least when we were kids.
Oh yeah, and I didn't mind most of the changes to the 1997 Special Editions, save for the moronic "Greedo shoots first" to make Han more of a good guy who wouldn't shoot someone in cold blood. Stupid! Greedo is lecturing Han on how he's gonna kill him because he's already lost his chance to repay Jabba! What do they expect Han to do? The space dogfighting at the end of Episode 4 was way better in the SE and more in-line with the other movies. The ships were too slow-moving in the original film. Adding the Biggs scene was a nice touch. But Jabba was too cartoony looking (fixed in the DVD release) and they still failed to fix the matte painting in the detention corridor (fixed in the DVD too). Empire was more or less okay, and the added Wampa scenes didn't seem to hurt the film. The song and dance scene in Jedi was dumb though. Seeing that loogie hanging from that cartoony Muppet wannabe's teeth was sick when his mouth takes up the whole screen.

I'm not saying the actor was bad (don't recall seeing him in anything else), but I didn't like his Anakin at any point of the film. Not sure how the likes of him are called in the US, but "chav" seems to be the British word (of course I mean the attitude rather than social backgroud and lifestyle). Makes Raiden from MGS2 almost likeable.greg wrote:The dude who played Anakin did a good job at being a believable as an impulsive, quick-to-anger young man, but as a romantic he failed bad.

It was Obi-Wan, not Anakin, who got on my nerves in episodes 2 and 3. The actor had the look and the accent to pull off a younger version of the OT Kenobi, but his character was unfortunately written as an overbearing ass and a terrible teacher.

As much as this guys reviews seem like a total fuck off, they are (at least at times) brilliant in their distillation of everything wrong with the prequels. My favorite part is when he asks his friends to sum up the characters from the original movies and prequels in one word--and of course they can't do it for the prequels because the characters all suck!Ruldra wrote:By the way, if you haven't done it already, do yourself a favor and watch Red Letter Media's reviews of episodes I and II. For anyone who actually thinks this isn't important. Consider (though please don't compare) Rick's 'I stick my neck out for no one' attitude in Casablanca where he watches (apparently without emotion) Ugarte taken away (and ultimately shot) by the police. I can only imagine what Lucas might have changed to establish that Rick is one of the good guys. Seriously, Lucas (along with Shyamalan) needs to be kept as far away from the movie making process as possible.Skykid wrote:That's a gross understatement. Let's not forget Lucas's earlier film of THX-1138...the one with the all characters' heads shaved off. The main actor Robert Duvall was actually racing that superpowered car shown in one key scene. Crazy fast indeed.
Arcade Factoid: The counterdown timer shown in DDP-DOJ PCB is a tribute to the cool retro electronic countdown timer shown in the original theatrical version of THX-1138.
The fans want the original theatrical versions of the SW trilogy (Episode 4, 5 & 6) on Blu-Ray format and none of that Special Edition crap. It would've been interesting to see Spielberg direct Episodes 2 and 3 of the SW prequels had Lucas been wise to let someone else direct them.
The real reason why Episode 4 gels so well is that the first few cuts of it didn't pan out so well. It was Lucas' wife, Marcia Lucas, whom handled the current edited version of SW that finally clicked (the original 1977 theatrical version).

What I find funny about that change is that people that aren't nerds are irritated by it as well. My older brother, who was a kid when the original trilogy was released, bought the DVD set for his son and watched it for the first time in years and the first thing he said about it was how bullshit it was that they changed that scene.Skykid wrote:That's a gross understatement. Re: That bitch Lucas announces Star wars on Blu Rayz
With regards to Empire Strikes Back - Lucas hated Irvin Kershner's rough cut, so he took the footage away from him and re-edited the film himself, thinking he was going to "save the movie". They had a screening and no one liked Lucas' cut. It was obvious Kershner's edit was far superior and Lucas begrudgingly had to go with it. This is partly why Gary Kurtz parted company with Lucas, Kurtz wasn't a "yes"man.
Re: That bitch Lucas announces Star wars on Blu Rayz
And I assume why Empire is the last good star wars film.

The biggest issue for me is that I saw these films as a little kid. I'd like to be able to see them the way they appeared in the theatre. I guess Lucas doesn't get that whole nostalgia thing.
