Dogyuun stopped working in MAME...

Post by linko9 »

For some reason, whenever I start up dogyuun in MAME now (no matter what build I'm using, and I've tried quite a few), the game just alternates between a blue, green, and black screen. I used to be able to play this game fine, so I don't know what happened. I tried redownloading the rom, but to no avail. Any idea what the problem is? No other game is effected.

toaplan2.c driver is currently WIP, use an older Mame version.
- 0.138u1: David Haywood reworked Toaplan2 rendering to render tilemaps / sprites in a single pass, should be more accurate to hardware. Note, this further breaks the mixing in Batsugun and Dogyuun because the previous hacks can no longer work with the new rendering code. These games have been demoted to NOT_WORKING status until a better solution is found; they never worked properly anyway due to the extent of the video hacks needed to support them. Robiza fixed sprite-sprite priorities in Batsugun and Dogyuun. Changed palettesize from 2048 to 65536 colors.

Thanks, now that you say that, I remember that I originally played it in Wolfmame 99, where it works fine.

Unfortunately, I've still got a problem... The reason I wanted to play Dogyuun again was that nimitz mentioned in this thread that Toaplan games such as Batsugun and Dogyuun can be played with sound by using sample packs, and a version of MAME that can load samples for those games. I tracked down the samples for those games, used the version of MAME that nimitz mentioned (ThunderMAME), and to my delight, I was playing Batsugun with what sounded like perfect sound, and perhaps best of all, no graphical glitches at all! It's really amazing, I feared that I would never play Batsugun with sound and without glitchy background tiles. However, Dogyuun does not work in Thundermame, I guess because the version is too recent (though it claims to be version 106.0.0). I've been unable to find any older version of Thundermame, nor any other MAME version that will play Dogyuun and has sample support for the game. Does anyone know of such a version of MAME? I know it's an uncommon opinion, but Dogyuun's soundtrack is my favorite shmup soundtrack, and I'd love to play the game with sound.

ThunderMAME also runs Solvalou well from what I heard.

But Dogyuun and Batsugun with sound and music...wow!

I haven't had any Dogyuun problems with ThunderMAME32+. You can find it near the middle of this page.

Yeah, that's where I got it from. I'm using Thundermame32+, but all I get is the green/blue/black screen. It couldn't be some strange complication having to with the fact that I've got newer versions of MAME elsewhere on my hard drive, right?

Try deleting anything dogyuun related in the cfg and nvram folders of your mame installation.

No dice. I deleted the dogyuun file from the cfg folder, but there is no nvram folder in the thundermame installation, presumably because neither batsugun nor dogyuun create nvram files. I even went through and specifically told thundermame to use all of the directories in the thundermame folder, to make sure it wasn't somehow accessing directories from some other mame installation.
