I didn't tap the button, because... um... because I can't even tap faster than the default autofire rate. I guess I can do better with a stick, but since I don't have one, I will just hold the fire button all the time.

I think that would make it even harder! Well that's how I play it too so I guess I should just keep trying.

Finally, finally beat Storm Causer. So many game overs there, even while entering with full lives on some runs.

Did good throughout the first 4 stages, but poor performance on the 4th stage boss crippled the rest of my run. Took the ABDG route.

EDIT: Aru-san - 2,575,140 - ABDGK - Yes
A decent run on the first 4 stages, finally getting the boss down on the 4th stage. Accidentally picked up a red powerup on 5th stage, jacking up the rank.

ebarrett - 6,244,030 - ABDGKPZ' (ALL) - Autofire on

I game overed so many times in a row to Great Thing I was starting to feel like Captain Ahab.

I'll eventually go for a no-miss/no-bomb run on some easier route, but for now I'm mildly satisfied with this one.

update:

ebarrett - 9,590,090 - ABEISNY (ALL) - Autofire on

Was hoping to break 10M but fell quite a bit short. Oh well, I'll eventually go for no-miss, no-bombs, all captures while doing some other, hopefully more lucrative route.

I let two of the captains escape and got mostly shitty bonuses from the black icons. :(

Saturn version with in-game auto-fire code. New entry replaces former 30th position on scoreboard.
Image

Code: Select all

RFP 8,504,540 ABDHLQV (ALL) Yes
Two captains (A & B), two BHB, and four lives. I've managed to get the L and V captains before but only once, and on the same run no less. I could probably save another BHB or two and with that I'm closer to 10 million. However, I think I'm done for now. Godspeed, OJM.

Was originally aiming to beat Curious Chandelier, but when Zone J went better than any other run I had prior I just had to try for a new hi score.

ChainsawGuitar - 7,551,650 - ACFJNSY - ALL - No

Hopefully now I can move onto something else with my mid-term goal reached. Jesus. :?

Saturn version:

[Emperor Ing] E.C - 3,203,460 - ABDHLQW - Yes

Man, I thought I had actually done well, scorewise, but I see I have a lot, and I mean a lot of catching up to do!

I had gotten to Vermillion Coronatus, and I think that's what made me foul up and lose the ALL. I tried going for a boss (that's already difficult) that I was not too familiar with, as opposed to Curious Chandelier or Hysteric Empress.

I did just fine and dandy until those cheap blue rubber cubes in stage Q (the ice stage) forced me into a chokehold where I lost my gold shield and died quickly thereafter. I think if I had kept it through that point, I might have been closer to making it. Not being completely powered up might have helped, too!
I picked Q because Deadly Crescent, despite what the name might conjure up, is such an easy boss (compared to Crusty Hammer) that if I want to survive I go for it no matter what.

I don't know how you guys managed so much more points... I was killing everything!

Does it have something to do with those random silver and black medals?

Great score! Did you get lucky with the medals, or were you just thorough? : D

I still need to keep on practicing to get an ALL, but I think that's a long way away, without autofire.

Ha ha, that is yet far beyond my skill - I still feel like a boss like Electric Fan you are practically required to use a bomb to make your way through.

The captains really do make a huge difference, score-wise - they just add so much by the end of the game. I can never manage the 3rd captain, though.

I think I might try a run right now and see if I've gotten any better!

EDIT: Nope, no way in hell.

Ing - 1,549,300 - ABDG

Not even good enough to post. I don't think I'll ever get far in this game without the autofire option. I really fucked up by using two bombs on Folding Fan, and zone G is just way too tricky to make my way through - I should have went down. A fucking retarded accidental collision with a wall didn't help matters.

SECOND EDIT: Lol, no again.

Ing - 2,14x,xxx - ABDGL

I did a bit better this time, abusing the Saturn firing rate (taping A and C alternately) to take down Folding Fan a bit quicker (he's too dangerous left alive). Lost my first and second lives at Prickly Angler - those criss-cross spiral purple lasers are a bit too quick for me to dodge, or rather, more accurately, they trap me. My final credit was lost at Double Dealer. I feel that if I were to beat him, I would have been able to make it through the next zone - because any zone with Deadly Crescent is actually fairly easy, along with a fairly easy boss (Crusty Hammer is a pain though). I feel a bit better, though, because I was able to make nice progress, with having not played in a while.

I no missed the game but failed to capture the S stage mini boss. Outside of the bosses, I find S to be a lot harder then X.
