Recommended Anime/Manga?
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Regarding K-On!, I've spent the past few days watching all the available episodes, from S1EP1 to the current S2EP16, and I've enjoyed every moment of it so far. Some genuinely heartwarming bits, some really hilarious scenes, and some excellent music to boot, all rolled into one well-presented package. Loving the ending themes right now.
It has shot up my top ten favorites to number 3 - while nothing can top Aria and 5cm/sec for me, this comes very, very close.

What decent manga/anime is on blu ray?
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Rebuild of Evangelion 1.11 and 2.22, Akira, Beyond the Clouds the Promised Place, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Steamboy, Paprika, Tekkon Kinkreet… well, I think that should be enough for now.neorichieb1971 wrote:What decent manga/anime is on blu ray?

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I'd rather go read Berserk manga. The anime isn't bad, but far from "best ever" if you ask me.
TV shows:
Eureka Seven
Scrapped Princess
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu (in the original airing order)
Last Exile
Sunabouzu (Desert Punk)
Gokudou-kun Manyuuki (Gokudo)
Gintama
Kino no Tabi
Fuujin Monogatari (Windy Tales)
Hajime no Ippo
Planetes (ΠΛΑΝΗΤΕΣ)
...und so weiter, und so weiter.
OAVs:
Tenchi Muyo! (this and that to be precise; the rest is either bad or not all that essential).
TV shovs/OAVs:
Seikai no Monshou (TV)
Seikai no Danshou (TV)
Seikai no Senki (TV)
Seikai no Senki II (OAV)
Seikai no Senki III (OAV)
...
...I could go on and on.
P.S.
Feature films:
Ninja fucking Scroll of course (uncensored with j-voice acting)
Ghost in the Shell
Innocence (GitS2)

I just finished watching Satoshi Kon's Paranoia Agent last weekend and enjoyed it.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
If you're into Dungeons & Dragons, watch Record of Lodoss War (the OAVs, not the TV series). It's about the story of a real D&D party turned to anime. It's really good.
I also second Ninja Scroll.

Oh shit...OneManga.com is closing down!
That was the best place on the net to read mangas online...this sucks."There is an end to everything, to good things as well."
It pains me to announce that this is the last week of manga reading on One Manga (!!). Manga publishers have recently changed their stance on manga scanlations and made it clear that they no longer approve of it. We have decided to abide by their wishes, and remove all manga content (regardless of licensing status) from the site. The removal of content will happen gradually (so you can at least finish some of the outstanding reading you have), but we expect all content to be gone by early next week (RIP OM July 2010).

Watch Berserk Abridged instead. It makes it ten times better.
So is there ever going to be a faithful adaption of this thing that doesn't die at ~15 episodes? I mean, a comic about a guy walking around and cutting demons in half while wearing cursed armor is nice and all, but I think gratuitous action is a lot better in video.
PSX Vita: Slightly more popular than Color TV-Game system. Almost as successful as the Wii U.

I like to support publishers by buying their releases (and I also support the anime industry here) but there are some series that just can't make it here and scanlations are pretty much the only way.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Good for you, glad there s at least someone here who has decent taste.just finished watching Gankutsuou a couple weeks back
You might want to look into Texhnolyze, Gungrave, Ergo Proxy, Wolfs Rain, Le Chevalier D'Eon, Mushi-Shi, Otogi Zoshi, Last Exile, Kinos Journey, just to name a few:..
I'v just watched a bunch of alright suff including:
Solty Rei - starts off kinda meh, but gets better gradually
Gantz season one - over the top, quite dark and twisted
Samurai 7 - exceptional show, not very deep but highly entertaining
Black Lagoon - Very fun but honestly I was hoping for something more
Phoenix - Classic stuff, alot of heart went into his stories
and finally one show that completely surprised and easily makes my top ten, Baccano!
Started Hell Girl which is good, but follows such a strict formula for every episode I can only watch a couple at a time.
Also Pumpkin Scissors which I have very low expectations for but was in the mood for something more casual.
I still need to check out Basilisk, Paradise Kiss, Romeo+Juliet, RahXaphon, Elfin Leid (Sp?), off the top of my head.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
For chempop,
Try watching the 2nd season of Gantz anime series on DVD and find out what happens. Of course, it deviates from it's original manga source and follows a different path to an entirely different conclusion.
The "High School of the Dead" manga/anime is a great tribute/homage to Romero's zombie flicks. Add the usual obligatory T&A to the zombie infestation senario and it just raises the fan service meter up. It's a given just like with the modern-day zombie flicks being made these days as they both go hand-in-hand in the horror/gore film genre. ^_~

Moleculoman's golden rule #1: Watch all shows of which the music has been composed by Yoko Kanno. Just wiki her.
Series I'd recommend:
Vision of Escaflowne, Tengen Toppa Guren Lagaan (by GIANT X...wink wink!), Genshiken, Darker than Black, Wolf's Rain, Gungrave, Ranma 1/2 (classic!),
Trigun, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Beck (I've got ah feeling!), Eureka 7, Kiddie Grade, Read or Die (TV and OVA), Initial D (boom boom Japan!), Getbackers (its picks up after eps.
, Soul Eater, Haibane Renmei (slice of life series, same artist who did Serial Experients Lain). Dats all...for now.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Not sure if i've replied to this topic or not yet but i'd suggest the Neon Genesis Evangelion Manga - even though it's been out since 1995 ( I think the final volume has been released in japan just recently too so should be completed shortly).
Other than that i've just finished watching SpeedGrapher which is excellent and awaiting Gun X Sword to arrive in the post.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Just picked up Ghost in the Shell:SOC complete (seen a bunch on Cartoon Network, I'm looking forward to the original voices), Romeo + Juliet, and Shigurui (I can't resist Madhouse).
After finishing Pumkin Scissors and Solty Rei I can honestly say they were decent but not top tier Gonzo.
Anyone seen Noein? Looks kinda cool, but haven't heard opinions.
Sadly the closest Bestbuy dosnt have an Anime section anymore, and the second closest's one has just gotten smaller and smaller in the past few months. Looks like I'm going to have to resort to Amazon or other mail order means. Any particularly good sites for US releases? Price is the main factor as well as item discription (some boxsets include extras where others don't, for example RahXephon has one with the OVA and one without).

Um, OVA? If you mean the special episodes (which I'm not sure if technically are OAVs), it's alright, but steer away from RahXephon: Tagen Hensoukyoku (a feature film). Cringe material through and through, even worse than E7 - Pocket ga Niji de Ippai. Are BONES unable to make theatrical films that don't make me feel sorry for the original TV shows?chempop wrote:Price is the main factor as well as item discription (some boxsets include extras where others don't, for example RahXephon has one with the OVA and one without).

Just wanted to spare you the embarrassment of watching that film. I got warned, watched it nonetheless and it was my mistake. Humanity deserves at least a warning, no matter how futile.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I just finished watching the first five episodes, and the only thought I had during my viewing was "this is a prime example of how to ruin a promising concept with unnecessary levels of ecchi". This anime has everything going for it story, character and setting-wise, but spoils it with excessive panty flashes and boob jiggles in virtually every shot. While I'm hoping they reduce the amount of pantsu as time goes on, I'm not terribly optimistic.xris wrote:Brand new and completely AWESOME!, Highschool of the Dead. Oh, my god, I really like this show so far.
Chalk up another Tenjou Tenge then - something to watch when there's nothing else to watch. Shame really.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Yeah the reviews of High school of the dead have been really postive. But im just going to sit back and wait for the season to finish before i get stuck in to it. I hear the manga is just like the anime. Awesome but excessive ecchi. I intend on buying that too

The anime counterpart of "High School of the Dead" tends to ratchet up the tillatation factor of T&A compared to the tamer manga version. The school nurse portrayed in the manga version sure is endowed with an ample rack indeed (not to mention that she likes to wear Prada dresses as well).

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
It would take me about three days to list all the anime shows I own that I think are worth watching. So I'll simply say that I've just finished watching The Big O for the fifth time, and still love it. The retro robot designs. The art style that's like Batman: The Animated Series meets Fritz Lang's Metropolis. The epic musical score. The production values. The lingering mysteries that I'm still pondering on the fifth viewing. The action. The excellent English dub. Highly recommended.
