If you could get a Konami shooter in HD download format?
I thought to myself after reading about Otomedius G! coming out on 360 in the US that there is no reason why that team can't work on something old and make it something new. Therefore I thought why not ask for a Parodius HD download on 360/PS3. Being a big name company, it might stir something up and others will follow.
So if Konami were to dig an oldie out of the cupboard, what would be your choice?
Me personally, I want to see some super high rez Parodius action in 1080 16:9 with blow your socks off orchestral sound of the original score. After that Gradius 5, although that might be harder to get done if Treasure are required in any shape or form.
I do have something in mind that could make this happen.. So every vote counts.. If there is no feedback I won't put into action my plan.. So as I say, every vote counts.
Richie.

Scooter Shooter or Strategy X, maybe Axelay
(realistically speaking, Green Beret or Road Fighter)

I'd like a new Salamander although I suppose Rebirth will suffice.
Not a shoot-em-up I know, but I'd also like a new Sunset Riders or even a jazzed up remake with online co-op.

Xexex. As good as the regular 384x256 arcade version looks, an HD version could be stunning.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

The proof is in the redraw of Irene in Otomedius. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Xexex could look awesome in HD.

Xexex is an Rtype type of game if I'm not mistaken. I'm also of the mind that it did not get a release in the home. Its an interesting choice, but since I've not played it before it wouldn't be my no1 vote.
However, if it gets an overwhelming majority I'll put forward the request for it to be considered.

You have failed to offer 2 of the Parodius games as choices. You are missing:
Gokujyou Parodius
and
Parodius Da!
You're also missing:
Salamander
Salamander 2
Life Force (J) (this game was actually somewhat different from Salamander)
I would nitpick about Scramble, but thats already been released in HD.

Trying to keep the games horizontal for now. Plus there is a limit to how many options you can have.dieKatze88 wrote:You have failed to offer 2 of the Parodius games as choices. You are missing:

Gradius 3 would be great too.

Gradius 3 for XBLA with coherent autofire options. The PS2 version's autofire is balls.
Re: If you could get a Konami shooter in HD download format?
I want a enhanced axelay..... let treasure do it like G5.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Gradius V, obviously.
A souped up version of Xexex wouldn't be bad either.

Xexex is on Salamander Portable on PSP, very nice job Konami did to make sure the game wasn't gimped. At least from what I've played of it it seems fine.

I voted GV...however, I wouldn't mind seeing Axelay jazzed up.

Xexex in HD widescreen would be king! (portables + shmups = eye strain for me)
Gradius V would also be awesome.

Actually the PSP version is much better, the tentacle AI isn't pants on head retarded. If you play the arcade version you can tell that its supposed to do things on its own, just most of the time it forgets, gets distracted by butterflies, or goes to the mall for some Mrs. Fields cookies and some Starbucks. The PSP version fixes most of that and it doesn't get confused nearly as often.Bloodreign wrote:neorichieb1971 wrote:Xexex is an Rtype type of game if I'm not mistaken. the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..
Re: If you could get a Konami shooter in HD download format?
In all seriousness, have we learned nothing from years of Castlevania remakes? They could barely pull out new sprites to feed the GBA, and the DS. y'all are either wishful thinkers or just retarded.
HD games means either slapdash polygons (or well maybe not so slapdash if we're lucky) with hopefully the same gameplay (or maybe not). Hopefully the upcoming Contra can lead the way. But Konami hasn't any track record of successful HD resolution 2D sprites; I don't think anybody does (that SFII HD thing maybe an exception and was probably expensive enough to be unrepeatable).
Theoretically, I'm in favor of good HD treatments of games...in practice I'm against lazy reworkings with muted gameplay that have been uglified or sloppily 3D'd.

Re: If you could get a Konami shooter in HD download format?
Sorry that you have such a negative attitude mate. I'm going to have a word with a friend to see if there is a chance of any of this happening. Most likely it won't get off the ground. But I'm going to try and put the idea across anyway because Konami have some really bright and colorful games that I relate to the Japanese hues/pastel era..
If they can be mastered in HD with that bright glowing effect and it turns out popular it might pave the way for others to take note.
I'm tired of figuring out how to get all those games up rezzed nicely on a LCD.. Now I want the real deal.

Re: If you could get a Konami shooter in HD download format?
Yeah, that's an "attitude" I adopted following Konami's 2D efforts from 2003 onward and having them eventually expect me to give them glowing PR for rubbish they wanted me to buy and review at my own expense. Anybody wondering why I never wrote much of anything for the Contra H.Q. now has a glimmering of what happened.
During the heyday of the GBA we heard the claim that it was too hard to find competent 2D artists anymore. Of course, with HD 2D art, that goes more than double simply because it's much more expensive to make 2D art look good in HD - you can have atrocious design and drawing skills but still make decent 2D art, or you could find yourself cutting corners to fill a HD resolution image. At least that's the theory; a lot of it doesn't hold up when you consider how expensive 3D game development is, but apparently companies still suspect people don't like to pay full price for 2D-ish games.
If it can be done right then sure, why not? Jury's still out on Konami's two latest HD remake-ish games (Rocket Knight, Contra which hasn't been released yet) but I see no reason a HD game would have to have failings. I'd rather any new game be either an original property or a sequel, though, to extend the value of the HD experiment. It can use the same gameplay as a previous game but new levels and enemies are always nice to shake things up...don't see any need to retread things. So, given that, seriously a good update of Axelay (keeping in mind the criticisms!) would be fun. I suppose Salamander would be my next choice.

Xexex. I believe this one rounded out my top 25 list this year. I love the sandbox-feel to the game: so many things to be done with that pod!
Re: If you could get a Konami shooter in HD download format?
Xexex, without a doubt. That game is the crown jewel of Konami's 1990s output. I don't have the proper wire, but I need to see what it looks like running out of my PSP to the flat-screen. Same with Salamander II. I also voted for Gradius III, because it might make navigating some of the game's environments more manageable. Things like the cube rush and the game's harrowing final stretch would probably be better with a few more inches of space to get killed in.
