Same for me until. I just rode home on it, and all I can say is that it feels like riding a cartoon BMX, if that makes any sense.

Honestly - it's pretty noisy - it's like the frame amplifies the squeak into this low howl. Works as a horn, that's for sure!

One works, one doesn't.

I think i'll set up the working unit and PEB in the gameroom, and i'm thinking about converting the other unit into an Atom-based PC completely sealed in the original case.

A sleeper of sorts.

Garage sale. There were a few of them around where I live over the weekend, so I went out early to see what was there. Found someone selling a bunch of of odds and ends, along with a few Genesis and SNES games. FFIII was one of them, along with stuff like Sonic (a given), The 7th Saga and Super Mario World.

I've seen several sell on amazon for cart only for that same price. I payed $12 for mine a few years ago.

Also just picked up Axelay for $4.68 which I thought was pretty good. Had for .99 on ebay but some dummy pushed it up close to my max bid within the last 15 min  .

Because Tokyo apartments are too small for a vinyl collection of any significance?

It's not like GP wouldn't go vinyl if he could.

Vinyl is very thin. You can store tons of vinyl if you know what you are doing.

He must have a reason. All my DJ buddies look down on CD DJ units and I must agree, they don't sound that great to be honest.

I can invest so much more in Vinyl DJ wise for less.

Your buddies sound quite elitist. Pro CD decks sound better than Technics decks, as the latter aren't made for hi-fi, but for the dancefloor. I have turntables and 20 years of djing behind me, so I might be wrong though. Also, it's often more about the quality of the mixer and since there's a computer involved, who's to say he doesn't spin 24 bit, 96kHz FLAC material?

Don't know man, while the Technics was old for some reason it was better than the CD deck my buddies was using. Over here where I live vinyl is still king for DJs. When I'm at the record store on the weekends the young/old DJs always looking thru boxes (good amounts of boxes) of 12 inch singles for $1-$2 a piece for something to play when they are DJing in a club or a party.

Why would anyone spin 24 bit, 96kHZ FLAC files with music that would be terrible produced to begin with (compressed up the ass like the majority of electronic-based music)? It's not like people who are listening going to hear the difference with a higher sampling rate to begin with.

Amen to that. Vinyl will ALWAYS sound better than that digital shit. I have Basement Jaxx's Rooty on both cd and vinyl. Once you heard the vinyl version, you'll never EVER listen to the cd again.

Unfortunately in a few years (if not already) young people will forget about the analogue world, simply because they will never have known how it sounded.

They should focus on making a new analogue platform, but in a modern jacket.

And for those who want both there's always Final Scratch or Serato. Mixing the best of both worlds...

They give you the opportunity to only buy the best stuff on vinyl, and the junk digital... ;)

No offence to the guy that bought the digital stuff though. It's still a nice setup. But there's better...

And you have to admit. Vinyl has collector's value. Digital files are just digital files. Nothing to be proud of there...

A hard rental/carrying case that holds: NES deck, 2 controllers, zapper, AC adapter, video cables, 1 cartridge.

Sadly I will have to make a small modification to make my ubernes fit in the case, due its extra jacks. I'm trying to figure a way that won't be horrible looking..

Does that apply to vinyl pressings of albums recorded digitally? I've generally been buying CDs of more modern releases even if vinyl is available, since it's cheaper and I'm skeptical that there's really a difference.

The audiophile rule of thumb is all about the recording. If it's a digital recording then CDs would be better than vinyl. If it's analog then vinyl is better. That's why many people as of late are getting back into vinyl because their favorite Beatles albums sounds better on vinyl than digital (which make sense because all of the Beatles stuff uses analog tape).

The majority of modern music uses digital recording to being with so pressing them on vinyl to me is a waste of time. Most of the new vinyl (not reissues) are done with digital recording so I for the most part never deal with those unless it's on an audiophile label (guarantee will use analog straight up or else they will be getting bitched at from audiophiles) or has confirmation that the master tapes were analog.

My point was (misunderstood perhaps due to poorly writing by me) that Vinyl doesn't automatically sound better than CDs, it's up to the hardware that plays it back. If the needles are starting to wear out, the deck is cheap etc it won't matter how good the pressing is or if it's 180 grams of OMG quality plastic. Most old CD players sound like crap as well, but now that the technology is pretty much as good as it can be (for playing CDs) most consumer CD-players (standalone units) will sound very nice and hold up well against DJ vinyl players. The Technics 12xx series aren't Hi Fi units, but made to last when being abused by DJs. I used to have a very nice Kenwood Hi Fi vinyl player, but now I don't have the space, so even my DJ gear has to be in storage and unpacked when I have a gig.
