I heard there was a rumor on the Jap communities that you have to get 6 million before you start the final boss fight or it won't work, maybe that's what they were talking about when they said they would fix it?
Well, the patch is now available anyway. It seems Cave fixed everything except for Arcade Mode replays (still not there) and name entry (still not possible in any game mode).

I seriously don't understand how name entry is missing from a port at this point in the game.

They're referring to the 3 letter initials plus the local scoreboard attached to them. DSIIX is the only game that completely forgoes this in favor of the current gamertag.

This is what I mean, I just put in my initials last night after playing IIX mode and getting 6 million points, and it saves to the local leaderboard just fine.

I'm pretty sure before the patch, it wasn't possible in X or Arcade modes, as I've played both and have no recollection of ever being asked for my initials. No idea if the patch changed things since I haven't had a chance to play since its release.

Found the bomb: kill with Lock Shot the last snake before the boss while playing Ruins as 4th stage (i was playing level 2 but not sure if required)
The achievement didnt pop the 1st time i got the bomb though.

Hmm, so I have to play it as the 4th Stage and not the 3rd> I will try that tonight. I usually get a small life cake off that snake. But thank you :D

As for initials, I've had the patch and I've still not been asked to input my initials, at least not in X-Mode.

Great that there's been the patch relatively fast, and the bomb acheivement seems pretty much solved. I'm all about arcade mode now though.

By the way, now we've played this a bit, who are you all scoring highest with?

And am I right that the online leaderboard 'friends only' listing is broken? I'm sure some of those of you on my XBL friends list must be playing this...

And no - I've never yet managed to enter OTA, even post-patch.

Re: arcade mode. I started playing with Windia, but switched to Lei when the scoring clicked. It's because of the way Lei's options work. You can tap fire and send off those "spears" from his options and let them slowly travel the length of the stage leeching blue rings as they do so. Usually, I'm firing in the opposite direction so my shot doesn't take down enemies too quickly. Particularly in the ruins and final stage it kind of reminds me of playing Gauntlet - there are certain points in the stages where a well aimed diagonal/horizontal/vertical shot will net big points. With the other characters it's more difficult to just hit with your option.

Also, there are a lot of points to be made on bosses (surprise) - particularly the large zombie fella at the end of the mansion. I usually make sure I can power up at the start and position myself behind him, tapping shot to get red rings (your options won't leech blue rings off bosses, and will take them down faster, so I have them aiming away). On his first phase it's possible to power up, recharge and power up again. You can recharge ready for the next level by getting behind him again in his final phase.

It's a real shame you can't download replays for this mode - but hey, at least they added the fence in the first level...

At least it will keep all the lock-shot people at bay.

So I got all the way up to Satan Claws in X mode, and even did the EX stage too. I lost my last life half-way through the last fight though. I know I can definitely 1CC this one with a bit more practice. So anyways, I guess DS2 is easier than the first one after all.

The EX stage boss and Satan Claws on level3 are the only things that even vaguely remind me of the difficulty level from the original Deathsmiles. Not saying the rest of the game is bad, but the challenge from the first is definitely missing from most sections of the game.

Crap wish I knew about this thread before, I got that bomb item a few weeks ago ):

Great to hear that patch is out! The 6m achievement is one of the only ones I need right now, an it's more than attainable. I'm still trying to do a Rank 3 1cc with Jitterbug, but it's still a bit tough :x

Once I get my last 3 Achievements (if I do) I am going back to the original to see if I have improved at all. I'm sure the sheer amount of time I've spent in DS2X will see some improvement in the original as well.

Mind you, I'm going back to DS2X right now, I missed the fence!!!

Is there some other requirement for the 6 bombs, full magic gauge achievement? I'm staring at it now but I haven't gotten anything :|

EDIT: NVM got it

Right, got all now bar the 6Bil. I have been watching some of the leaderboard vids to try and improve. I think my lack of skill may see me miss this one Achievement.

Wow, I guess I was too immersed in work to notice that this game was actually released. I suppose I'll have to order it at some point, in spite of the price. Is anyone going to tell me this is a must-have title to give me the motivation? Motivation needed because spending on videogames always runs the risk of a small conflict with the wife.

Personally I think it's fun, though I might stop short of labeling it a "must-have"...if I could see into the future and assure you that a "Platinum" reprint would be coming I'd probably advise you to wait for that, but unfortunately my crystal ball's in the shop.

Just got my copy of DS IIX from Play-Asia. And yes it came with a DLC card, to my surprise.

I'm not sure it's better than the first DS, but then again I personally wouldn't want to be without it either.
