I figure I ought to start by thanking you guys for taking the reins on this when others (myself included) hesitated - hopefully the community will be grateful enough not to bitch at you TOO much.

It's ok - I plan to end all arguments by only allowing votes for Moon Cresta.

Props to the people giving Geometry Wars some spotlight.

Meanwhile, Ketsui wins.

It was a mistake. It's been removed from the list now.

Hopefully Psyvariar 2 will land in the top 25 this time.

Rooting for Blazing Star as well.

Where's that picture showing every top 25 from every year? I found the one made in 2006, wasn't one made last year?

I might be wrong, but I don't think so. Turrican used to do these, though, so maybe he can share a little light on this question. Where is he, btw? I don't recall seeing him around lately.

What's the deal with Futari voting? Every version counts as a seperate game?

07. Don't vote for game modes, be it difficulty levels or bonus modes included in home ports of arcade games. (Examples: You cannot vote specifically for Strikers 1945 Monkey difficulty, Mushihimesama Ultra, Raiden III Double Mode, or Ibara Arrange. Your votes have to go to just Strikers 1945, Mushihimesama, Raiden III, and Ibara, respectively.) Exceptions: You can vote for colour label modes or revisions of games, if those are sufficiently different and got a stand-alone release. (e.g. You can vote for Ibara Kuro: Black Label or Deathsmiles Mega Black Label.)

If I had any skills, I would do it this year. I always loved that drawing.

I wouldn't call Nitro Ball or Ninja Commando (say) "shmups" but I would call them shooters. Anyway, they're in per the rules now, yay!

Too bad carnival shooters aren't in else I would be voting all the Exidy 440 machines with a C in the name (Cheyenne, Combat, Crackshot, Crossbow, etc. - all but Chiller, that is).

Something about Nitro Ball doesn't 'feel' right - I think mostly due to the pinball part.

Screw feelings, yo. It's just an extra gameplay mechanic. Bouncing around is present in some other shooters, I'm sure, even "classic" shmups. (Not to mention crazier things like inertia.) Aside from the occasional third-person pinballing, it's a pretty straight-up third person manually scrolling shooter.

Wait...why's Chiller get the shaft, here? I know I'll probably take heat for this, but having played most (if not all) of those arcade titles, they sure as heck all felt pretty much the same to me, including Chiller. Didn't have much love for any of them, but I'm surprised that you'd single out Chiller. What's that all about, Alfie?

Yes, surely Lunar Rescue must count as a stg imo, if there had been any doubt in my mind I wouldn't have picked it. I quite enjoy it :)

I think that one is too much of a borderline since it's 50% Lunar Lander. It doesn't really count under grandfather rules either since the descendants of Lunar Lander and Lunar Rescue would be games like Thrust and Zarch/Virus.

Spy Hunter is allowed, right? It's fairly shmuppy, and has been a hit at Dave's bay area meets =)

Oh boy I hope so. It has the best storyline ever about a VIOLENT CITY with VIOLENT STUFF and such. Maybe the lagless version of MAME increased the appreciation for the game.

Mmm, Gigawing might get some mentions. As long as this year isn't a top 25 of all Cave releases it should be fine, right? Right? :P
