I think with how cheap Gamecubes are these days, it's quite a good purchase. It is incredibly easy to add a US/JP region switch, and then you can play Mr.Driller Drill Land, which is well worth dedicating a console to. If you do not own a Wii, you can still enjoy some other good games like F-Zero GX. Congratulations!

Hate what? I own one of the damn things and it's obsolete. Wii is backwards compatible and most of the good third party games have seen ports to other platforms. Only reason I can think of owning one is to use it for playing GBA games with the GBA player.

Right now it's the most modern console I own. :P
UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:Wii is backwards compatible
And far more expensive. And not really much more powerful. And the latest model can't be modded to run GC backups -- except with a device to load ISOs from an external hard disk, and that thing alone is more expensive than a GC. An older model, on the other hand, likely wouldn't come with a MotionPlus.
UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:and most of the good third party games have seen ports to other platforms.
Again, other platforms that I don't have. And the games I wanted the most are GC exclusives.

Sorry, man. Forgot you live in the woods. Aren't they still selling the Genesis over there and the PS2 is like cutting edge?

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee is the only GC game worth playing. The rest is just Nintendo crap.

oh fuck yes! got a link for that rotating stand, please?
Here you go:

1) Rotating universal mount itself (no stand, RTM-L)

http://www.avcarts.com/Premier-Mounts-R ... .html?cv=2

2) Compatible stand for rotating universal mount (stand, PSD-BW)

http://www.avcarts.com/Premier-Mounts-P ... M1324.html

The pages have PDFs to the manuals or spec sheets. You can also call them to verify if a certain model display is compatible with the universal rotating mount. The mount cannot be used by itself, to say attach it to a wall. It slides onto the poles of a compatible stand. The build quality is very sturdy metal, locking wheel casters, supports of to 60" displays (up to 160lbs), full 360 degree rotation, upward/downward angle tilt via a nice crank (very precise), adjustable display height, etc.

I've been casually looking for something like this for about two years. Up until this one, the things I found were wall mount only (I didn't want to commit to a wall/room), waaaay too expensive ($1,600 and up), fixed vertical only (not too bad, but want clockwise and anticlockwise options), etc etc. So when I finally found this one... I was like hallelujah! haha

I see a Climax logo on that Sudeki game, is it the same Climax who did Landstalker or is it the Silent Hill Origins Climax? If it's the former then I really need to track that game down.

Congrats on that Area 88 OST.

Nope, it's the bad Climax company :( I got the Xbox games for like 5 euro, chances are big that I will never play them. The Area 88 OST is great, but it almost pales in comparison to the Raiden IV OST. Awesome piece of music, gotta love Go Sato.

There's a technically decent PC port of Sudeki, once would-be-Zelda-killer-Xbox-seller of a game. Mouse+WSAD combo in FPP mode arguably gives it an edge over the original, although it's still playable with a joypad on the PC.

U-huh, GameCube has, like, NOTHING on Sudeki. Nothing.

Picked up Chrono Trigger (cart only, working battery, great shape), Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (complete, very nice shape given the crappy box Sega put it in) and a free copy of Ace Combat 6 (no box or manual, but in pretty good shape... and hey, it's free), all for $28 at a garage sale. I really need to get a 360 so I can play the three games for it that I now own.

Aren't component cables for the GC rare/expensive? Not big deal in PAL territories where your TV most likely has a SCART socket (unless you MUST have progressive scan), though.

Playing F-Zero GX on a NGC console with a modded JPN NGC D-Terminal to VGA adapter cable looks super sexy...runs at 60fps arcade spec framerate in glorious 480p.

In Japan, GC users had the choice of using either a component video or D-Terminal based cable for higher resolution. The price of a typical GC component video cable has gone downhill in recent years. I do recall seeing the GC Component Video cable up for sale when the GC console first made it's official U.S. debut.

According to Nintendo of America, less than 1% of all North American based GC owners actually used/bought the optional Component Video cable (so they removed the necessary Digital I/O port on the later production GC consoles that was used for it).

When I bought my second-hand GC console from Game Crazy back in the day, I made sure that it had the required Digital I/O port in place. Couldn't settle for composite video nor S-Video formats when playing those progressive-scan enabled GC games. There were a few S-Video based VGA boxes released for the GC but they were subpar at best.

looks fine with the svideo cable i was using with my snes, which i also grabbed in the last 6 months so i could play fzero and uniracers.....lol...the snes was twice as much as the gamecube

i dont play consoles often enough to warrant putting much cash into them....a component cable for the GC would probably be 3-4times as much as the system and game cost me :?

How does it compare to "Save the Earth"? I've been in a Godzilla mood lately, and was going to pick up one for the X-Box.

You wouldn't believe how awesome it looks in 480p.
That's definitely a pro of the Wii, you can get component cables for 5$.

Oh god i love GX, i played through every cup in GX on Master (even the unlockable AX Cup).
New game for Wii or 3DS, nao!

I haven't played Save the Earth more than a few minutes so I can't really compare between the two. Melee is absolutly awesome in multiplayer, not so much in single-player mode.
