I've been curious as to how this is going to work out. If you paid attention, Aksys recently ported Record of Agarest War to the US, and when they brought it over they also said all the download content would be available. If you go look at the marketplace for the game, you have to pay (very high prices, at that) for EVERY SINGLE piece of content on the marketplace, but all of the data is actually on the disc, all you're doing is purchasing a key to unlock it and play it, which consists of about 100kb of data. So, they say for Deathsmiles that all the content is "on the disc," but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be free. We'll see what happens when it launches.

And yeah, the bath scene is just a static image, and a very tame one, at that. It doesn't really show any kind of real nudity, it shows Rosa's back and about half of Follet's cleavage, the rest is all covered by steam or a towel or something.

And I think you see less of Follet's cleavage in that image than you do in the regular character art.

This is (sadly) the case for most of the DLCs out there, DLC content is already on the Disc when you buy it.

In short: rectal examination is now the standard in this industry.

Now they're trying to play it up for fans of people who watch fucking Bleach and Naruto or something. Anyway, I'm done, this isn't going to accomplish anything anyhow.
oh whatever.

who gives a flying fuck? seriously.

the game is for niche audience and I'm just happy it's coming out here.

I guess this may be the mentality for people who haven't been playing the game for the last year and 3 months, but either way.

Actually all the Agarest DLC is free for PSN, but not for 360.

I just don't care.

I really doubt that tagline is going to make people turn away in disgust.

For all I care, It could say Moble Light Force 5 on the cover with a generic Duke Nuke'em and the words, "Here to take names and kick some ghoulish butt!"

Haven't played a hori since I got Cotton off the Japanese PSN store a few years ago. Not really sure if this will be my bag, but I'm shallow so the lure of Cave and lolis draws me.

Also, relatively new 360 owner. Gotta have a cool faceplate.

Callback joke!

I had actually intended to number it 4, but it proved beyond my skill to create a number graphic in the appropriate style.

Huh...

Sometime in the past couple of days, Deathsmiles disappeared from Gamestop's website. I know it was there recently since it was the source of the back cover image, but now only Google's cached copy, dated May 26, 2010 06:29:30, remains.

I finally pre-ordered a copy today at EBgames.

There were two clerks, the guy in front of me asked for a system recommendation, PS3 or Xbox. One clerk said Xbox for better online, though "if you like weird Japanese games, like me, then PS3 is better". I don't have one but I guess the region-free thing is the reason?

Timing just happened that I got the other clerk, so I asked for Death Smiles - no reaction from the first clerk. Not that it matters...

Just read over at cave-stg that Aksys said that it will run on Asian consoles but not on EU ones. Not sure how credible this info is, or whether people have already talked about it here, I figured it was worth the mention.

So it turns out I didn't just spend $50 on a faceplate and soundtrack, but I can actually play the game too  I've never even tried Black Label yet :!:

chempop, a friendly heads-up, you should hyperlink stuff you source from Cave-STG, I actually got banned from there temporarily for not doing so.

I remember reading this on Aksys's own forums, but yeah, we'll know for sure in a month or two or whenever this game is coming out.

I wouldn't worry about it. They've recently revamped their site and a few upcoming games seem to have fallen through the cracks. Ninety Nine Nights 2, which comes out the same day as Deathsmiles, has disappeared as well. Yet both are still listed as 6/29 releases on Amazon.

Hey forum, I'm in the process of arranging an interview with Aksys Games to talk about Death Smiles. Any questions you like me to ask them? I've already got:

- Will MBL 1.1 be included on disc? (since sources so far aren't trusted by some members of this forum)
- Will it have a discrete title id or will it have the same one as the JP release's so leaderboards, achievements and online are shared between regions?
- Will Full Voice be on disc, dlc, or just simply not used?

People would probably like to know if it will work on Asian, JP, or PAL machines.

I'm honestly most interested if they have anything in the pipeline for further releases - though I don't know how willing they'd be to discuss future plans.

If you ask about Full Voice, make sure to ask if they did any dubbing work, and if so, are both Japanese and English available. The dub they did for Shikigami no Shiro 3 grated on me, and I was a bit annoyed there was no option to switch it to Japanese =/

From page 84
Jockel wrote:I just talked to Aksys games, they're not yet decided if they make the game region free.
When i asked about future Cave games being localized if DS sells well, i was told the answer is confidential, so the guy couldnt talk about it.
... which leads me to believe that there is a rather high possibility of future games being brought over if enough people buy this; because that doesn't sound like the stock corporate "no plans at this time" answer.
So they most likely do have something planned, but with an NDA.

We will be interviewing Cherie Baker on the 22nd, I just confirmed. Actually just chatted with her on the phone for a bit. We would like to get her questions about a week ahead of time so please post them. We will be chatting about other Aksys stuff too, not just the Deathsmiles release.

I'd be interested in how many copies of Deathsmiles they plan on printing, how many of these are going to be limited editions, and what their sales estimates range is.
Yeah, something like that. Other questions that people here have already suggested are good, especially about

translation language options dubbing/subsitles/etc, DLC, MBL+MBL1.1, region free or not...

In case anyone was getting unduly worried, the listing for DS is back up on Gamestop's site, release date is still June 29th.

As for questions for the interview:

- Out of all of Cave's shooters (and all the shooters available on the 360), what convinced you that DeathSmiles would be the best choice to test the waters for localization?

- Even within a genre like the shmup, which doesn't tend to put much emphasis on story elements, how big a role do setting and characters (in this case, the goth-loli overtones) play in whether or not it's picked up for localization? Is it still considered a viable option to "Mobile Light Force" a game and completely obscure its original style, or is there greater incentive to simply work with what you have, no matter what?

- Do you think that DeathSmiles, or any shooter that sees release in the West nowadays, has a chance of appealing to contemporary gamers on account of the scoring system and the competition it breeds, or does a game like this have to rely on "girls and explosions" to get any attention from local consumers who aren't already genre fans? Do you think that shmups will ever command the same degree of respect (for lack of a better term) among both players and press that, say, highly technical fighting games do?

Well put Bullet Magnet. I had already planned on asking your first and last question, but the point about "Mobile light Force-ing" is bloody brilliant and one i hadn't considered.
