2010...what's coming out that you're interested in?
I think this year deserved it's own thread.
Things seem kinda empty this year. We had the double ecstasy of Galuda II and Ketsui. I enjoyed Resonance Of Fate. But the only thing i'm currently looking forward to is Dragon Quest IX.
What else is coming out this year?
What are you looking forward to?

Re: 2010...what's coming out that you're interested in?
I'm playing Nier Replicant right now and am thoroughly enjoying it. This really came as a surprise, I was a bit skeptical at first but the game is enjoyable enough. Although, starting the game on hard-mode is almost a must.
Other than that... I guess I'm mostly waiting for FROM SOFTWARE's stuff like AC5 and was also hoping for a new entry of their "dark fantasy RPG" titles, but that's not very likely to happen in one same year.

KOF XII was probably my least-liked game in the main series, but I'm looking forward to XIII.
Also, StarCraft II.

Portal 2 - finished Portal again for the 8th or so time this week following the "Free" release. All time classic.
HL Ep 3 - hoping for an E3 announcement

Re: 2010...what's coming out that you're interested in?
Not a whole lot, to be honest. To be honest, I'm still catching up on 2009 games at this point. There's a few things on the list though:
-Super Mario Galaxy 2 (playing through the first one again right now)
-DeathSpank (I was impressed by this one at PAX last year)
-Castlevania: Harmony of Despair (depending, of course, on how it turns out)
-Metroid: Other M (again, I'll have to see how this turns out)
-Gran Turismo 5 (This should have been out by now though)
-Portal 2
I suspect that E3 and PAX will probably add to that list. I do have to say I'm highly skeptical of Natal and Playstation Move at this point though. Playstation Move seems like a rehashed Wiimote to me, and although Natal looks technically interesting, I suspect nobody will really figure out what to do with the thing, and a high pricetag could doom it from day 1.

Re: 2010...what's coming out that you're interested in?
I know that there are games I'd like to play on 360, PS3, and Wii, but I'm just not interested in owning these consoles. I'll guess that I'm in the minority here and coming off as a curmudgeon but this new age of DLC, Faulty Hardware, and hardware restrictions via firmware updates just doesn't seem fun to me.
Though it's not a game, I'm greatly looking forward to the Open Pandora handheld.
And Fast Striker :p

GOTY and don't nobody forget!evil_ash_xero wrote:I enjoyed Resonance Of Fate.
This year has basically somewhat renewed my faith in modern gaming after the IMHO trainwreck of the last several years (Bayonetta came out in the US this year, Resonance of Fate, Double Spoiler, Mass Effect 2). Nothing I really liked since 2006, which amazingly had Valkyrie Profile 2, God Hand, Dead Rising, and Chromehounds all in the same year. Also good stuff like Kororinpa, Lost Planet, and other crap I probably forgot. That being said, I don't really know what's in store the rest of the year, which is a little discouraging. I thought really hard and came up with this (not really excited about any of these except maybe BBT, I set my threshold as low as possible):
- Battleblock Theater (looks awesome like the PDA game that came with Alien Hominid that was way better than the main game itself, I don't fully trust the Behemoth yet though)
- Dead Rising 2 (I sense a major stench coming from this game since I loved the things people hated about the first game + Capcom farming shit out to some western dev has a poor track record although they made The Bigs which is actually quite fun)
- Lost Planet 2 (maybe? all the terrible reviews complaining about ridiculous difficulty actually have made me more interested than I was before)
- Vanquish (no idea what this is about really except Platinum is making it)
- Alpha Protocol (I know this sounds fucking ridiculous since I wasn't a fan of NWN2 or KOTOR2, but I trust Sega way more than any other third-party publisher right now, their record this generation has been downright sick compared to everyone else, also maybe Obsidian would benefit from their own franchise)
- Valkyria Chronicles 2 (maybe? I don't really feel like I need another one)
- Starcraft 2 (I guess... haven't really been following but I've heard all sorts of negativity)
- Strania (I hope? Not like I'll be able to play this this year anyway though)
- can't think of anything in doujin land
- there should probably be more but I'm drawing a blank, I'll be following this thread
- oh shit Last Guardian, forgot about that one due to ultra-generic name plus it being so long since SOTC
- also ModNation Racers (verrrrrrrrrry skeptical although it would be too awesome if it does turn out well)
Slightly offtopic, but should I play Alan Wake? I wanted to since it was first announced, gotta support the Max Payne guys and former Future Crew demoscene etc, but all the comparisons to HEAVY RAIN LOLOL and the stuff they changed (sandbox to story-game) have me scared. Please tell me this is like Max Payne 3 and I'll buy it.
Similarly, should I play No More Heroes 2 if I liked killer7 but didn't like No More Heroes? I've heard there are a bunch of changes that a lot of people who liked the first game are griping about. The one thing I'm griping about is apparently instead of Takada they're using a different composer, and since I'm a big Takada fan that will probably hurt my enjoyment of the game a lot. Yeah I'm shallow.
Just a warning to new From fans because of Demon's Souls and possibly 3D Dot Heroes (if you are an old school fan, please ignore this): From is highly creative and original and risktaking. That's what you like about them. It also means that their output is all over the place. Just because you like one of their games, you still might not like the next (even in the same series!). Just don't hype yourself up too much and keep this in mind, all I'm saying. I'd rather play one great game and one crappy game than two decent games, myself.

Portal 2
Edit:
Also
Monkey Island 2 special edition
I'm sure I'll see some other games during E3 and Pax that I might want to pick up.

Is Sin and Punishment 2 as good as the original? I've fallen off the map in terms of caring about Treasure.
Re: 2010...what's coming out that you're interested in?
The editor looks better than ever at least. I played mostly UMS(custom maps) on starcraft 1 for a few years and bought wc3 just for the custom stuff people made so that should be good enough for me. In the SC2 beta some japanese map makers were already making touhou-style boss rushes with normal doujin shmup controls :pEnhasa wrote:- Starcraft 2 (I guess... haven't really been following but I've heard all sorts of negativity)

You should probably check out S&P2 topic for impressions, pretty much GOTY for me already. Couldn't care less about SMG2 and Other M now that I've this one in my Wii - it's gonna stay there for awhile.Enhasa wrote:Is Sin and Punishment 2 as good as the original? I somehow get the feeling that was written towards my post (if it wasn't ignore this)... Don't worry mate, I'm there since KF and the games that people use to bash that company I call gems in gaming. Unpolished ones, but still gems. But it's always nice to hear people getting concerned for others' disappointments.Enhasa wrote:Just a warning to new From fans because of Demon's Souls and possibly 3D Dot Heroes (if you are an old school fan, please ignore this):

Speaking of which, A new Echo Night would make my game expectations for the next 5 years.
(A new KF for the next decade, but KF is dead - the moonlight shines no more)
Also, (apparently) contrary to most AC fans, I'm really hyped for what they have in store with AC5 - a serious revamp of the series is planned to make it a bit more accessible; in this particular case I actually think the outcome could be positive. If they really want to cut on mission numbers but do explorable extensive levels, I'm in.

I'm with you. I hope I'm wrong here, but I remember Agetec's Mark Johnson saying something along the lines that there were no plans to go on after KFIV. But then again, things happened the past few years, like KF I&II additional releases (yeah not really what we want, I know) and after Demon's Souls' success apparently there was quite a bit of demand for a new KF. We can only hope.

Red Dead Redemption is already out but already so good
I'll definitely be getting Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid other M and Sin & Punishment 2. My wii will be very pleased!
Starcraft 2 is already preordered (had to get into the beta!) and it's friggin amazing
Portal 2, if it comes out this year, will be spectacular. Sadly Episode 3 won't be out this year, even if it is announced at E3 which I really doubt. Remember "Valve time".
I also doubt the Last Guardian will be out this year, but if it is I'll certainly get it. All in all, this is a pretty great year!

Dragon Quest 6 and 9. Hoping Etrian Odyssey 3 gets a state-side release.
Honestly, most of what I was waiting for this year has already come out: Super SF4, Strange Journey, Yakuza 3 (which I still haven't picked up because of Sega editing it), Bayonetta.

Re: 2010...what's coming out that you're interested in?
I really need to play Infinite Space. Also, Senko no Ronde 2 would be my most cared about release, or also Ketsui, but I have already resigned myself to not expecting a localization.
People hate the save system (the exact same as Breath of Fire 5 which people also hated for that), the time system in that you can get yourself stuck and you're not supposed to be able to do everything especially when you're learning the game (people are OCD), the limited weapon usage which meant that you actually sometimes needed to use different weapons (although once you know where the good stuff is even that's mostly irrelevant), somewhat limited item slots, time not stopping when things happen like you open your inventory or Otis calls you, the unbalanced difficulty where bosses kick your ass early on, and I think that's mostly it. The unbalanced difficulty is definitely my one complaint with the game in that the beginning is perfect but the game just gets easier and less threatening as you progress, especially the zombies themselves. Would have been perfect if you never gained extra HP/defense (you still get better stats like running speed and item slots and so on). They could have also forced you to have to use new weapons more often I guess, which you didn't have to do even in infinite mode.
Anyway they addressed complaints and "fixed" the save system, took out the time system (missions are done linearly), made it so you can keep using the same weapon the whole game if you want, increased item slots, pausing when accessing inventory, etc. for the Wii remake, which was handled by TOSE (probably my least favorite developer in all existence). People didn't focus on these changes because they welcomed them; the ones they didn't welcome were taking out stuff like photography, jumping, driving, number of zombies, etc. DR1 still had great reviews because western reviewers are really biased towards zombies and sandbox games and good voice acting, and in spite of the "flaws" above. Even before the Wii remake and the sequel being announced as outsourced to a western dev, I never expected I would like DR2 if it ever came out. It's the same reason why I probably wouldn't really like a BoF6 even if Capcom ever made it one day. They would take out all the stuff people hated from 5 that I loved.
People whine about why games aren't as good or respected as films yet, say we need a Citizen Kane, blah blah blah. If anything, it's because game developers actually listen to their audience and actually give a shit about what people want and if their games are liked. The tyranny of the majority and all that. That's really what happened to all the innovation. I'm not against people wanting to make well-liked games per se, but it shouldn't be done through focus group mentality.
I played a lot of WC2 and a ton of SC1, but all competitively. And everyone just played the same balanced maps so creativity and options don't mean much there. I didn't like WC3 at all, and anyway that game's online community was a lot more about playing alternate shit like DOTA that didn't appeal to me. So the editor being robust is cool and all, and I had fun creating funny maps in WC2 (everyone shares the same mine, a map filled with minimum-cash mines that you have to deplete just to clear space, map built around making exploding guys) just to play friends with, but I don't have the time for that anymore so the wonderful editor doesn't mean much to me.Zaarock wrote:The editor looks better than ever at least. Oh lol, no, I've seen you talk about From before, you just reminded me though I guess. My favorite From game is actually The Adventures of Cookie and Cream. I dunno if people bashed that game though as much as didn't play it. And yeah, fuck polish. I wish nobody, devs or gamers, cared about it.ZOM wrote:I somehow get the feeling that was written towards my post

Not sure if it will get a NA release, but I'm anticipating Last Window (Hotel Dusk, Trace Memory/Another Code).
I was pissed that Another Code Wii didn't hit the states, so I'm not holding my breath for this either.
also, the obvious titles: Sin and Punishment 2, Deathsmiles 2X.... maybe if Other M comes out by the end of the year.
That's about it for me, unless I'm forgetting something.

It'll finally be worth the wait for the upcoming PS3 Gran Turismo 5 racing simulator/game. Of course, as with developer Polyphony Digital, they want to take their damn leisurely time to make it the best it can be on day one of release worldwide. There's always the chance to upgrade the actual GT-5 gaming engine through updates (unlike with the PS2 console and it's DVD-Rom based drive) if it needed be.
I'm surprised that dev PD hasn't managed to score a deal with Lamborgini SPA to feature their lineup of vehicles in GT-5. At least they managed to score the licenses for both NASCAR and Ferrari SPA IPs to be featured in GT-5.
Once again, no realistic physical damaging to the goregous high-res polygonal rendered car models this time around either as the car manufacturers don't want to see their virtual vehicles likeness tarnished whatsoever. It would be more realistic if dev PD did so (just like how it was during the PSX era of GT & GT-2 releases with the non-damaging functionality issue amongst the vast selection of cars available to drive/race).

It was completely off my radar but seems everyone whose opinion i trust is going crazy about Red Dead Revolver.
I managed to pick it up, but not played it yet. Seems like it's going to be awesome.
