RE-PLAY MAGAZINE - please show your support

Post by replayme »

Hi, I am trying to raise awareness, and generate some funds for my games magazine. Can you please show your support by going to https://www.takeonesmallstep.co.uk/Entry/View/5083 and taking a few moments of your time to help out a fledgling videogames magazine startup.

In case you want to see as to what the magazine looks like, you can view the first issue online at http://issuu.com/prankster101/docs/re-play_november

Since the issue came out last year, I have been able to get a whole heap of amazing writers on board, and have also secured distribution of the games magazine in game stores across the entire country (about 40 businesses). I need your support so as to take this magazine to the next level...

Thanks

EDIT: there seems to be an error with the link to the URL above. I don't know as to what is causing this, since my application is still live. I am going to contact the company responsible for this (and really put my foot down - ;) )

There are plans to have the magazine also come out as an iPhone app.

Please do take a minute to help out here folks, the guy has put a lot of time and effort into trying to get a print magazine off the ground with some interesting articles covering several areas, including the odd retro highlight.

Do go and show your support chaps. Gamers for gamers and all that.

The magazine actually went to print and was distributed in London - that there is just an online copy. I don't think there's any intention for the mag to be distributed electronically.

Not to be confused with RePlay Magazine, which has been covering the coin-op arcade market since 1975.

Nah, I think this is intended to be a lot more mainstream.

Is the other American arcade trade industry magazine, PlayMeter, still being published or not?

In the old-school Video Games & Computer Entertainment magazine from the late 1980s, they used to mention both RePlay and PlayMeter trade magazines regarding the best earning coin-op conversion kits and deluxe cabinets for the month stateside. Of course, it was dated info from several months back. Plus those cool articles with full-color pics depicting coverage of the annual AMOA & AAMA arcade trades shows were a blast.

Oh dear - look, it's 'modern reviewer syndrome' (Raiden 4 review):

"Although the game is fun, the lack of significant content means that it's over all too quickly. The game is incredibly short as there are only 7 unique levels to play"

When I read that, several feelings hit me at once. They ranged from frustration, to annoyance, and from there to absolute contempt. I have also quoted with the spelling mistake corrected. If you're going to come to a niche genre forum and beg for support, then you probably need to be reviewing that genre properly, instead of completely missing the point when it comes to actual arcade titles.

He's not the R4 reviewer afaik. Keep in mind the guy funded the entire project out of his pocket and was doing his best to find voluntary submissions to mix with the paid stuff. Getting a Kenta Cho and Bitmap Bros interview when you know little to nothing about magazine publishing and have the mag distributed at the Eurogamer expo is a good shout, even if the R4 review is a bit clueless.

The Radiant Silvergun review/retrospective makes up for it anyway. :)

When I used 'you' in the above response, I meant collectively as a publication.

A bizarre comment. Few shooters have more than 7 levels.

Raiden IV being too long is in fact one of its problems.

If you were to play the classic PC Engine shmup title of Gunhed (aka Blazing Lazers for the TurboGrafx-16 console), it has a really long nine stages to blast your way through. I used to think that the PCE shmup of Super Star Soldier was the sequel to it but that isn't the case.
