Yea Cave has been getting a lot of attention lately (in both good and bad ways). The good news is that Cave now has a hardcore fanbase, the bad is that fans will pay nearly anything for their games/merchandise.
Not only games, but out of print Cave posters and soundtracks sell for ridiculous prices too on Auctions. Unfortunately this attracts all the scumbags, in other words bootleggers, rip-off artists and people trying to corner the market. Not only does this make it harder for the real fans to get their stuff, but also huge sums of money goes to a select few greedy people (instead of Cave).
I have learnt from my mistakes, after missing out on SNK games, and having paid some insane prices for a few soundtracks on Auctions. I now buy everything from Cave that I want (especially soundtracks), before it gets rare.

yep thats one good thing about cave its still current so at least you can order those console games , sound tracks and posters as soon as they hit the shops , which is what id advise anyone to do ..
i blame zakk (or is it zak?). blastaway aint helping either.
luckily i got my boards a few months ago before everything blew up, not sure if i got them on the way down or on the way up, but everything seemed reasonable at the time. course im not going for full kits and artwork and stuff, itd be nice but its not worth the ridiculous prices theyre getting now.

*wishes for S-Type*
Irem as a developer could be a real goldmine, but the problem is that technology seems to have advanced faster than they did. They just seem to be unable to develope a good and solid 3D engine on the PS2 (just look at Disaster Report, would be one of the greatest games ever if it werent for all technical issues). They should have stayed with 2D, and they would maybe have reached Cave like status by now. Instead of going 3D why not more 2D animation frames and higher resolution.
I'm actually surprised Irem is still here as a developer, they end their most established franchise. And alienated all the fans of In the hunt, by making the sequel Sub Rebellion a full 3D game. Then their other few recent games have been even more niche than shooters. I just hope that their new game Bumpy Trot makes them a bunch of money, so that there is still hope for Irem making a new shooter (does not necessarily have to be a R-Type sequel to me). Bumpy Trot does look pretty good though.
.. And for the record most I have spent on a poster was about $30, although I did end up paying around $110 for some soundtrack
If it makes anyone feel any better arcade paraphenalia has never been cheap. I've seen flyers for non-cave (non shooter at that) games go well over 10,000 yen. It's supply and demand, and arcade stuff is almost always low supply. Get a little demand, and the price goes through the roof. Cave being the only people putting out traditional shooters at the moment is probably stirring up a lot of interest in their back catalogue.

I thought you were a neo collector?
I am sure there is a trevor spencer on neo-geo.com..
At the moment, I think the signs aren't too bad, the "Cave Madness" seems to be supported by a few individuals only, at least on this board. Also, things are happening too fast to be of any longevity, I hope. What I fear is that the idiocy on this board is going towards neo-geo.com proportions, meaning that it gets flooded with people who do not actually play their games and who cultivate a completely irrational attitude towards gaming. In a genre that focuses clearly on gameplay, this would be really annoying.

This is the kind of thing that sets me off and I am entirely neutral when it comes to internet BS:evil:
First you are a member over at n-g.com and so are a bunch of other members here. And I am also a member over there and a huge fan so I take this personally, just because "we" (bastard neo fans) are members over there and are into Cave games as well as many other shooters does not mean we havent been so until recently. I've been appreaciating Cave's games since before I've owned a neo and I can tell you that was more than 5 years ago. I can only now afford to buy PCBs (beats emulation doesnt it?) So I apologize for this resulting in being the worst for "you" the shmup elite.
heh, Cave would need to come out with its own home videogame console for it to be the next Neo-Geo.
back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, several well known Japanese 3rd parties were either developing their own home videogame console, or thinking about it.
that list includes
Namco ('16-bit 'Super' system which almost got renamed PC-Engine2)
SNK (the 16-bit Neo-Geo, obviously)
Taito (16 bit CD-ROM system called WOWOW)
Data East (NeoGeo-like system)
Seta (NeoGeo-like system, like Data East)
of these small to modest sized 3rd parties, only SNK made it to actually launching their own console.
Stop complaining fools... anything out of print is fair game for whoever wants it most. :P If you cringe at the thought of passionate people putting "huge" amounts of money into what they love, well sorry, either your wage isn't high enough or you're just a completely different type of person than what they are. Anyone who doesn't want to pay through the nose is usually satisfied with something incomplete/unoriginal anyway... so why complain? Honestly...

my main problem is huge amounts being offered over the general accepted prices, and people taking advantage and buying everything possible to sell at inflated prices. 2nd type of person angers me much more than the first, especially if theyre being an ass while doing so. back to the first, i can understand things getting bid up, but just flat out offering 2-5x the normal cost of something is ridiculous.
but in either situation, yeah it comes down to money. personally, im just cheap and dont like spending when i dont have to, which is why ive stayed away from buying boards lately. was hoping galuda was gonna drop more but guess thats not gonna happen for now ($300 seems to be my stupid impulse buy price).
