I tried to use them on my new Jap 360 with my Jap region Gamertag. They don't work
I was under the impression that they would work but no luck.
Do I need to...
a) Buy Jap region points (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-es- ... -190r.html)
b) Setup an asian region gamertag on my Jap 360 ? (would this cause problems with DLC for my shmups *the only reason I bought the Jap 360)
Did you already buy some DLC?
If not, than it's no trouble setting up an Asian account.
But if you already bought DLC, i'd recommend switching your Japanese profile to Asian if possible.
Because switching between profiles game by game isn't fun.
Thanks. No I've not gotten any DLC yet. So can I switch my current Jap profile to be an asian profile ? Or would I have to create a new profile altogether ?
I think you can switch it, i've never tried it myself though.
But if you don't have any DLC anyways it doesn't matter that much if you set up a new account.
Just make sure you'll buy all of your DLC and XBLA games with the same account, or it will get really annoying.
I don't think you can buy the DLC for jp shmups with an asian account (Futari BL, Deathsmiles MBL, ...), you will need a jp account and jp points. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.
Also buying your games with different accounts is no problem as long as you buy them all on the same XBox. You can access all games bought on your console with all accounts on- and offline.

Did you try accessing the contents by starting the game, hitting the home button and then select game downloads?
This worked for Futari Black Label, at least.
