Right - here's the first submission to get the ball rolling!

spadgy - 210,800 - LV3 - PCB

This is actually a tough game, and despite one-lifing it too level 3's boss, it's surprise second form nailed me!

...

On the second form you can actually remain still and be safe as the pods are destroyed.

Didn't you have a good score a while back in this? I was expecting something much higher. Anyway, Stage 3 boss is 2kmonies, or rather 100k, which would be a nice addition to my score. Turbo Force is a very hard/wacky game.

I'm not sure if it was good, but higher than what I posted. I don't have it recorded though.

Intro to stage 6 is brutal. Not sure how to get past that part without losing a life.

The rank gets pretty nasty if you don't die for a few levels. :(

It does indeed. I've been struggling with this. Got past the beginning of 6 without getting hit and then lost it on something stupid. Level 7 is relatively easy.

Brilliant! A new player and a new No.1 spot high score! Updated.

Rank is certainly very explicit in this game. If you were new to shmups, and didn't understand the concept of rank, Turbo Force makes for a very potent demonstration!

Had a go at it:

ZOM - 213,700 - LV3 - MAME

Holy this game is brutal - the ship's(car's) slow speed isn't exactly to my liking, but the rest of the game is interesting enough for what it is.
Also, what's the deal with the LV2 boss? Are it's appearence conditions rank based? I prefer the beetle thing over the semi-homing missle ship.

All in all, great game from what I played - will surely play some coins inbetween my galuda II sessions :)

Not sure if there's a way to trigger a specific boss, but the missile ship is definitely easier:

Updated - nice work guys, and welcome to another score thread ZOM.

I've actually got a score of my own to add in so I'll do that now (It just beat you ZOM, so you better be back!):

spadgy - 214,600 - LV3 - PCB

Image

I'm so close to felling that Lvl 3 boss!

And saucykobold - I think that rank does effect the level 2 boss form, but I think there's two 'bug' forms.

Like this maybe:

Rank low - Easy bug form
Rank medium - Missile ship form
Rank high - Hard bug form

That's a pretty loose guess though.

Nah, I think I found it:
Midway through stage one there's a spot where one single red-bug-popcorn-enemy-thingy flies under a bridge and turns towards the player
- If you kill it, you'll get the Bug form
- If you let it live you'll get the missile ship

pretty sure it works this way, correct me if I'm wrong.

Actually... In the meantime my highest score is 221,-something at second form of stage 3 boss but I didn't bother to post any scores before I beat that annoying boss.

Until I reached LV4, I was full of anger towards Turbo Force. Now, some anger has passed on. Note, the LV4 boss for me went loco, although perhaps I didn't take out the right turrets/components early. Oh well, 500k coming up.

A '?' item should be released in a group of stationary tanks a short ways from the boss. Let it hang around until the boss starts to appear. Easy as the level 1 boss because of that.

Yeah, I saw it, but used it prematurely. First time there so next time I'll definitely take advantage of it.

Scrotums! So I'm last again really! I've got some time on Saturday for this bloody game. I hate to set myself up for disappointment, but sod it – we've got us a battle on ZOM! May the best player win!

And ZOM and Rob - good work on spotting what dictates the boss and how to beat boss 4. Once we have a few more bits of info, we should start an ST.

However, on ZOM's boss 3 point, I'm still sure there's rank-effected versions of each form.

Pretty much, and you can also scrap my previous discovery: I just got the missile-ship boss and I'm pretty sure I got that lone red bug in stage 1. I missed one of them in a formation though, which could lead to believe that maybe it's triggered by killing all red bugs in stage one. makes sense... or not?
Anyways, it's not important for scoring I think.

BTW, spadgy, I will post a new score later, you know, too keep our liitle battle going :)

Cool - I've got a lonely night in tonight when I should be working. Turbo Force provides the perfect distraction from that, so I'll hopefully return with a level four score.

Also, I'm now hoping to install my PCB in the local arcade (Casino in London), so hopefully the likes of CHI, mr_m0nks, DEL and others might join us here...

Hey hey, congrats on breaking the LV3 barrier and jumping to spot number 3. Did you get that many points points in stage 4?

Maybe I'll give it another go later today, let's see if I can at least get to the LV4 boss.

Thanks!

That run was about my third or fourth go at level four, and I did make it all the way to the boss. A huge chunk of those points came from level four, and I think hanging right back at the bottom of the screen is the secret.

Good work CHI - I knew you'd be back!

(Me and CHI installed my Turbo Force PCB in London's Casino arcade on Thursday, and we found it pretty hard to leave!)

And you finally got to take on the Gun-mounted dinosaurs CHI - that level's a lot of fun right?

I'll update this thread now, and I'll be in Casino briefly tonight to tackle a few credits.
