Good sprite resources?

Post by Drum »

Only good one I've found through Google is this: http://www.spriters-resource.com/
Anybody know anything else? Specifically, I'm looking for some good 16-bit-era sidescroller terrain tiles. Just for reference purposes - I won't be using the actual sprites in the game I'm working on. Even more specifically, what I really want are some terrain tiles with slopes that flow together seamlessly and are made out of rock or sand or something like that.

Choose a game you like and rip the sprites out of the Mame pack maybe?

Well, you know, something that involved less work. For me, I mean. Also! MAME is a surprisingly lousy source of good terrain sprites (of the type I'm looking for, anyway) - there are some Grade-A tilesets, but in general the levels in arcade games are less complex, and there are hardly any platformers, which I guess is really the template I want.
I think I might have to suck it up and do some screencaps of SNES/Gen games - thank the maker for the ability to turn off layers. If anybody knows some suitable games, that would be rad - I'm looking in the direction of Super Star Wars Tatooine and Lorenzen's Soil in Earthworm Jim 2 at the moment, so if you know some examples like that, I'd appreciate it muchly.

Front Mission: Gun Hazard has some beautiful desert backgrounds/tilesets, the upshot is it takes an hour or two of play to get to them.
