Tag is グラディウスアーく when it's meant to be グラディウスアーク, the description is also wrong. Searching for ゲーム音楽 and コナミ brings back videos from mid '09. The title of the video is "GRADIUS ARC" but it doesn't bring back any results.

Fuck, after spending _weeks_ creating those fake images (I did the originals in 720p) I was in such a rush with the deployment that a stupid mistake like that crept in... Well, yeah, it's totally april fools. The score is the key. I was hoping for some discussion and speculation about the second power-up bar and all, but april fools day makes people paranoid. Orange Whip ftw =)

In a real Gradius, the options would be red, the player's lives would be represented by three little ship icons, and the score would be about 116 million points lower.

Nah, there have been Gradius games with non-red options, but yeah, the score should be lower.. but a message is hidden in the score, that's why it's so high.

Oh you! Having a photo of a nico nico video was indeed strange (especially with that perspective), but I wished so much for it that it made me totally gullible.
Well, at least I have to admit that the screens are pretty quality - I absolutely wouldn't mind a Gradius with that stage in it.

How did you plan on making this believable when nothing would show up in nico's results regardless?

I knew some people here would actually search niconico for this. The original plan was to include a non-functional nicovideo link, and then wait for somebody to speculate that it has been removed by Konami, because it's a leak.. but eventually I decided that the less I explain things, the less there is chance of an OBJECTION! from someone ;P

I searched the net for fractals, real moai, a Vic Viper and some mech graphics (some are from Gradius V) and then photoshopped like a mf. Actually the hardest part was designing a new logo, with the obligatory wings and all.

Sigh.. Now it's back to the Big Wait X_x

I haven't played other Gradius games that much, and I can't read Japanese. So I totally fell for this

So, Shocky's brilliant April Fools effort was all a great big trick, but the Arc trademark still stands right? From my experience game companies file trademarks frivolously, just to protect the most general concepts and ideas, and many never make it to being games or related products. In fact, they'll often just do it as a 'maybe', or even to stop other companies producing something similar to their IP.

Still, there's a chance right? And it's not Move related thank god (though I did play with Move a lot at Game Developers Confernce, and it was superbly precise, and hugely better than the Wii).

The Arc trademark is legit, yeah. It's possible that nothing will come of it.

Personally I don't see it being good on a HD console (Wii is out of the question) - getting a Gradius game up to HD standards on the alloted budget will inevitably mean compromise in some area, and ironically there's a good chance that area will be graphics (ie. ugly, smeary photoshoppy 2D graphics or sub-Gradius V 3D), so no thanks. That said, I'd love to be proven wrong - but right now I'm hoping for PSP, DS or for the next gen of handhelds.
