Best fireball/projectile attacks

Post by Khan »

Ok so I have always had this fascination with fireballs and projectile attacks, the general idea of a ball of energy capable of burning, stunning and damaging its target has always interested me.

I was one of those kids who would pause a game of street fighter 2 when playing as chun li so I could look up her skirt  but I would also do it with the animation of a fire ball and other sparkly moves just to appreciate the animations

I've always like the snk fireballs.

This. Or as I called it as a kid, "the flaming poker table attack".

Also worthy of mention are the larger fireballs in the Capcom VS series by the Street Fighter types.

No images but off the top of my head, here are 2 more projectiles that are over the top:

Fighter's History Dynamite: Mizoguchi's Gottsui Tiger Bazooka
Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter: Mech Gouki's Thunder Gou Shower

I'd say Laharl's Meteor Impact attack in Disgaea is pretty over the top.

As for fighting games, it's not a fireball per se, but I've always liked War Machine's Proton Cannon attack in Marvel Vs. Capcom.

I enjoyed a lot of Garou's effects for specials, fireball or not. IIRC, they did a pretty reasonable job of giving the impression of translucency even though the Neo can't actually do it. I haven't really played it in years, though, so I probably suck too much to get proper screencaps of a lot of them (esp. Kain R. Heinlein's stuff).

Hell, Capcom even acknowledged it. In Marvel vs. Capcom, you get a small points bonus if you hit Start after a match was over to continue beating on your opponent and time it so that your character is stopped on a "cool" frame for the transition to the win quote. Most characters only go up to a bonus of 10,000 points, but then you have the odd exceptions...

Image

The really funny thing about this is that this is that if you single-step the normal in-fight animation (it's her standing roundhouse, for those who care), the frame that actually gets displayed has a pretty large blur effect on her foot, which presumably means that they special-cased this in the code to show off more of her ass.

And how long would it be before a 'best video game ass' thread would get locked?

Where's the fun in that, her butt cheeks are just hanging out!

Does anyone remember the Street Fighter game where after you pause the game Sakura's skirt would still continue to move and cover her up? I think it might have been Street Fighter EX plus Alpha, that game pissed me off.

Of all the panty flasher ladies in fighting games, Natsume from Ninja Master's is my favourite (no wonder Kamui had concentration issues).
As for the fire attacks, Cotton shoots a loveable fire viper of sorts in Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams. Maybe I'll upload a screenshot. Also, the entire first level of Gradius II is something to behold for fire fetishists.

One of those capcom fighters (probably SFA3) allowed you to create your own color pallet. All I can tell you here is that sometime in the past I have made a color pallet for Sakura in which her panties were flesh colored.

Yes, yes sir, that is what I did.

Edit: Anyway, no reason to stick to fighting games for best ass in video games. There is a lot to choose from.

I like Oro's Yagou Dama super special. You have to store up all your supers to unleash it, but it looks so badass!

idk, you'd have to play third strike to know what I'm talking about, but its sick nonetheless

You're a fellow Godhand lover, is that Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai fun to play? I usually steer clear of the fan service type drivel, but somehow that game looks like it might be fun (T&A aside).

I was going to bring up Venom on the subject of awesome fireball/projectile attacks, but he's not very flashy (in both of the senses explored in this thread)

Onechanbara without T&A is a vapour. And it's all kinds of wrong, blood colour set to white... oh dear.

Oneechanbara is a Platinum Hits title in Japan. You can justify you purchase knowing it's a best-selling title, which means it MUST be good.

Really. :P

Huh? Did they censor the blood in the U.S. version?

Anyway, it really plays more like the PS2 Castlevanias/Nanobreaker than something like God Hand. Also, Oneechanpon (PS2 Simple 2000 Vol. 101) was far and away the high point of the series.

Not that I know of, if they censor blood it's usually green anyway. Blood covers and drips from your character as you kill zombies and charge up some meter. Setting the blood to white makes it look somewhat suspect.
Entering dress up mode with no items also strips your prepubescent school girl down to her kegs.

It's just not right.

Nice fun fact, Ex-Cyber... I knew about pressing start to beat a downned opponent, but never noticed the points were awarded depending on the frozen frame

Gonzales (Kaiser Knuckle/Dan-Ku-Ga) - Chou Ginga Nage meaning "Super Universe Throw"
It's a projectile/fireball in a loose sense of the term. ;) Gonzales throws the opponent upward so high that they end up in the Earth's orbit. When they come down, they start to burn up on re-entry. Too bad there isn't an RVA-818 X-LAY cameo in the background.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qG4qFouhUM Here's a video of J-McCoy & General on the business end of the CGN.

And there's one more cool thing for all characters: If your Crush meter is filled, any fireball attack or other special that lands on the opponent will cause a screen filling blast of thunder which wrecks the background. "Razing Storm" taken literally.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Nice :) I had played that game a handful times, but its definantly on the re-visit list.

Theres a guy in there with a nice projectile I think he has shoulder length hair I cant remember his name but hes sorta like the Ryu with a fireball and uppercut.

anyway other honourable mentions are the Castlevania crew

Alucards spells are pretty neat
