Namco Classic Collection PCB - Upside Down Image?
Namco Classic Collection PCB - Upside Down Image?
Hi Everyone, I just sourced myself a Namco Classic Collection Vol 1 pcb...
I just put it in my Blast City and the picture is upside down!!! And there's no switch on PCB to flip!
I could change the two plugs out the back of the Blast City to flip the screen orientation.......but the problem is, even though most of my other shmup PCBs have a switch or jumper to flip screen........my DDP DOJ doesn't......which means the DDP DOJ and Namco Classic are opposite in orientation to one another!!!???
I guess I can't avoid changing my Blast City orientation to be able to play these two games?
Hoping that I have missed an easier solution...........................

It's a problem with many (all?) vertical PCBs from Namco that they rotate the screen in the "wrong" direction. The only solution I could think of is rotating all your other PCBs

Re: Namco Classic Collection PCB - Upside Down Image?
I've been wondering, roughly since when has the "wrong" orientation been the way Namco does it? I have 23 vertical PCBs which don't have a "Rotate" dip switch, and only five of them are opposite to the Namco orientation. Three of them are newer Cave games, the other two are Centipede and Gun.Smoke. Looking at my collection, it's mostly the older games which are rotated opposite to the Cave games (Konami especially), from the mid 80's on they tended to have the option to switch.

Ah, so it sounds like the Namco is the correct way whereas my DDP DOJ is the wrong orientation?
Hmm...unfortunately still doesn't solve my dilemma...I would love to play DDP DOJ and my new Namco PCB (Galaga) without having to rotate my cab each time

Make up some kind of yoke wire flipping box.
Re: Namco Classic Collection PCB - Upside Down Image?
I have a feeling this is why Namco cabs that have rotating monitors (exceleena 1 & 2) also only rotate in the wrong direction...keeps them selling their cabs along with their PCBs.

Yeah, I think I'll just build a switch...kernow wrote:Make up some kind of yoke wire flipping box.

This thread makes me think of Fresh Prince, I have to admit.undamned wrote:Moved

I don't think I have seen any that didn't have a counter-clockwise (I think) monitor. My stuff is roughly 1986 to early 1990s though.

I always thought that US games went one way and Japanese games went the other (as default)

I have the same problem as I got Galaga and it is all backwards. I can't stop swapping PCB's as I'm from generation "I change my mind all the time"!
Anyway how hard is it to make a switch? Is there any tutorials on the web out there for doing it for a Egret 2?
Cheers

It's well known that namco and Tehkan (Tecmo) went the opposite way of everyone else's orientation to sell their cabs. I thought there were some grounding tricks to flip the orientation though.

Re: Namco Classic Collection PCB - Upside Down Image?
I always thought that the initial JAMMA orientation was the same as NAMCO and Tehkan games use, but the other companies were kind enough to supply screen flip via dips? I only have EGRET IIs though, and they are better suited for the CAVE style orientation, as that works with NEO-GEO without having to yoke-flip. But with francob's harness, you can just flip that frown upside down.Shou wrote:It's well known that namco and Tehkan (Tecmo) went the opposite way of everyone else's orientation to sell their cabs.
