Castlevania: Rondo of Blood on the U.S. VC now!!!
What a top tier game! I never had a chance to give the game a proper play until today. It's absolutely hard as nails and the branching paths will entertain me for years to come!
If you don't already have it get it now!!
If you don't already have it get it now!!
What more can I say I wouldn't be here today if the old school didn't pave the way.

Picked it up tonight, the werewolf now wears undergarments, and the original German dub has been replaced with the dub from the PSP version. The rest of the game remains in it's unaltered Japanese, the charm of those voice actors remains true.

I wouldn't worry about it, Avatar Cat (Elixir) is watching us post about video games and disdaining our every move.
Anyway it'll be interesting to see what happens to prices of Rondo now. I ought to crack open my resealed (boot?) sometime to celebrate.
Re: Castlevania: Rondo of Blood on the U.S. VC now!!!
Last I checked, Alien Soldier's prices are still high, MUSHA is still higher than it was a few years ago, and Sin and Punishment is still the same price, so my guess is that the price will stay the same.Ed Oscuro wrote: Anyway it'll be interesting to see what happens to prices of Rondo now. Fun fact: the intro voice (and text) was changed.
It is now spoken by the german voice actor of House MD.
But how they managed to have worse audio quality in a new recording is beyond me.

Re: Castlevania: Rondo of Blood on the U.S. VC now!!!
The law of diminishing sound quality. Same reason why 16-bit CD music has so much better sound quality than anywhere else.
Re: Castlevania: Rondo of Blood on the U.S. VC now!!!
I'd assume the way it was compressed for digital distribution - how big is the d/l? The original was of course on CD, redbook and all that. Unless you mean actual artifacts in the new recording!Jockel wrote:Fun fact: the intro voice (and text) was changed.

Did anything happen to the price (of that one or Symphony) when Dracula X Chronicles was released for PSP some time back?Ed Oscuro wrote:Anyway it'll be interesting to see what happens to prices of Rondo now.

It's actually the same German voice actor narrating from the Dracula X Chronicles.Jockel wrote:Fun fact: the intro voice (and text) was changed.

When the PSP port was announced, and then especially when it was confirmed ebay had more people selling the SuperCD version, so the price went down for awhile.
Over the past year, the few times I've paid attention, it seemed copies with spine card are still like $150
"B" quality copies of the SuperCD game have sold for $80.
The price should come down at least temporarily with the VC release. ...and then when people who sold theirs realize the sound on the original game is better, then they'll go back to eBay to repurchase copies and the prices will go back up.
..
yeah, so anyone see the going price of US Guardian Heroes lately? When the heck did that break $100?

Because you own the original and don't feel like paying again for a digital download version of it?
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
Re: Castlevania: Rondo of Blood on the U.S. VC now!!!
No, I mean why is he strutting around like that? To what end? His posts in the thread are just kind of aimless, hit and run jabs at nobody in particular.
Like, I'm pretty sure he's just goofing, but it just comes off as sort of sad and humourless. He did it twice, so I'm guessing whatever it is he's doing is deliberate - I just don't know what he's doing.
EDIT: That came off as more pissed-off-sounding than I meant it to, whoops.

If you own the original, why would you need to emulate it? I tossed my ghetto emulated version as soon as I got a hold of the legit PCE game.

Controller configuration, scaling for high-res displays, independent PSG and CD-DA audio adjustment, save states, fast-forwarding, instant access to every game ever made... these may or may not be features you're interested in, but they're present in emulators and not on the PC Engine. With the difference in accuracy being negligible, an emulator is objectively better.

Negligible difference in accuracy? Don't get me started... negligible for your expectations perhaps, but that's not an objective measurement by any means.

Mature emulators have accuracy high enough that most people don't care/notice. Real hardware is not without its drawbacks either. For example, older consoles like the NES have extremely shitty audiovisual output compared to an emulator, so I'd rather play on an emulator.

Re: Castlevania: Rondo of Blood on the U.S. VC now!!!
While NES certainly has video issues (to the point that a good emulator with a proper NTSC filter might be more accurate than an NES hooked up to a typical LCD set, and almost certainly more accurate than most Famiclones hooked up to anything), I don't think that applies so much to PC Engine. Still, I don't recall anything suggesting that PCE is a "hard" system from an emulation standpoint (as opposed to, say, Atari 2600).UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:Mature emulators have accuracy high enough that most people don't care/notice. I must agree. You get the game running nicely and with all the original audio intact! plus with today's PCs it's pretty much as accurate as you're gonna get.UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:Emulation FTW!
also fuck people trying to sell old games for 80+ for a single copy. why pay out the ass for ANY old game?
Also this game rocks.

Re: Castlevania: Rondo of Blood on the U.S. VC now!!!
That's why this version is $8 and 100% legal... Don't get me wrong; I'm not against emulation. I'm just against people who promote emulation when ready, legal options are staring at you in the face, esp. in a thread like this specifically about a new legal option. Why buy anything then? Just pirate every game you can for free. Espgaluda II for the 360? Download and burn FTW! Ketsui upcoming? Just wait for it to be leaked and download and burn FTW! Deathsmiles released in the US? Cool, that's nice of them to release it here; let's downlo... yeah. And even if you felt you had to bring up "alternative" methods of playing, that could've been mentioned in a more tactful manner.
Anyway, you wouldn't be paying any more for the game just because it's old. In fact, the original MSRP for Rondo of Blood plus inflation is still more than the cost you'd pay now. 7800 yen = $72 on 10/29/93. With US inflation, that's equivalent to $108. It's not that tough to find an excellent, complete copy of the original for the same price.

sure it's a new option, but I believe the context of the thread is about if they fucked up on it or not.
