Re: Cave's petition for release of Region-free games
Not sure where to ask this but I don't remember a question like this coming up. Now that Cave is starting to release games on Xbox Live (Guwange confirmed) do you think that will be the trend from now on? Retail disc releases will no longer be available and Live will be the only available way Cave will distribute their latest ports?
Re: Cave's petition for release of Region-free games
No more cave region free games for now, cave president made the statement.

We can also try our best to make sure the US Deathsmiles sells so well that they can't *not* bring the other Cave games stateside.moebinkay wrote:No more cave region free games for now, cave president made the statement.

I doubt it. While the cost to market of retail versions are significantly higher for a dev/publisher than the costs of getting a digital product to market Cave is a company that clearly knows how to milk the fan service with LEs and such. These LE bonus items cost very little to manufacture and by going digital only they'd eliminate that revenue stream. Also we're not at a point yet where digital only makes sense, unless your a small indie studio like The Behemoth or Ska Studios. Plus there's clearly a synergy between using a retail product to push digital only DLC (ala Mushihime's Black Label DLC). Given people's mindset about digital releases and pricing I don't see releasing a game at an average XBLA price point like $15 and then expecting gamers to drop another $15 for DLC and it being much of a success. Not when you can, ironically, release a retail version for $70-100+ and then tack on a $15 DLC.Shelcoof wrote:Not sure where to ask this but I don't remember a question like this coming up. That said it would be really nice to see some of the older titles get an XBLA release. Games like Donpachi, Dodonpachi, ESPRade, etc that may not be as feasible as full fledged retail releases . But whatever Cave ports to XBLA I do hope they eventually offer in a collection on disc like Q Entertainment did with the XBLA versions of Rez, E4, and Lumines. One can hope right?
Or wait for the inevitable US releases. While I'm certainly getting Ketsui LE for my collection I have almost no doubt it's been licensed already or is in negotiations. Given that we got Raiden Fighters for a mere $19.99 I can't imagine that Ketsui wouldn't do alright at a bargain price, or in the hands of a company like Aksys that takes the time to do a really nice version it could easily be a niche success even at full price. And DS 2 is kind of a no-brainer for US release. The first one's going to do well and already has all the hardcore/niche gaming sites/magazine foaming at the mouth over a domestic release.moebinkay wrote:No more cave region free games for now, cave president made the statement.

Plus the "no more region free" comments really just affirm that shmups are poised to make a huge comeback this year and that Cave's already working on licensing the other games.
Ultimately it is up to us to make this happen. When Death Smiles comes out buy more than one copy. Buy copies for friends/family that you know might be willing to give it a chance. Show it off to people. The more we evangelize for a product like DS the better it will do and the better the chances are of continued ports.Vectorman0 wrote:We can also try our best to make sure the US Deathsmiles sells so well that they can't *not* bring the other Cave games stateside.

I'd say make sure Deathsmiles US sells so well that Aksys won't consider picking up more Cave shooters (that they will release over a year later), so Cave will stick with region free games again. That makes more sense actually...Vectorman0 wrote:We can also try our best to make sure the US Deathsmiles sells so well that they can't *not* bring the other Cave games stateside.moebinkay wrote:No more cave region free games for now, cave president made the statement.

back on topic :
Given the rise of at least some popularity - and given things like Deadly Premonition, surely there has to be someone out there who would have an eye on bringing the Cave stuff to the US?
PAL might be a different kettle of fish.

How cool of them. If this is the case, why aren't they selling teh romz via the internet? I guess Steam earning hefty buck by selling the games one can easily pirate proves nothing.doctorx0079 wrote:I think the most important message Cave is trying to send here is "We are listening to you. Please stop emulating our games illegally." I am told that Japanese developers really hate illegal emulation.
Actually GameTap has got some arcade oldies in store, but from what I know about GameTap, their emulation quality and customization is no better than Virtual Console comedy.

I would even pay double so they hopefully change their minds before Daifukkatsu gets ported.

We've always been and will always be the 5th wheel. Which is pretty stupid because euro has some great arcade/shmup communities in many countries.krokodil_final wrote:i hope there will be PAL love too, beside us-releases ...

Choose from four angels with unique demonic familiars and battle against a storm of enemies pouring out of Hell’s gates! Fight your way out of tight spots as you are surrounded by enemy units and bullets from both sides of the screen. The unique left/right shooting mechanic of Deathsmiles will keep you on your toes as you dodge and weave through complex enemy fire, beautifully crafted by the modern masters of shmups, CAVE.
Triggering “Power-up mode” will unleash great streams of golden crowns, white tiaras, and grey skulls as you cut through enemies with your little angel’s mighty magic shot. Try not to get distracted by the bling as you collect these gorgeous trinkets en masse and pump your high score to the limit. One enjoys while playing this game.

Defeat is not bitter unless you swallow it.

A jp xbox would cost me 5 times that game. and I would still have to buy the game.Skykid wrote:Double eh? You could probably afford a JP 360 for that.legztec wrote: I would even pay double so they hopefully change their minds before Daifukkatsu gets ported.
Although I am seriously considering buying a JPxbox besides the eu one I have now.
I still think its downright stupid to have two xboxes because it could have easily been on one.

I'm frustrated!.... :'(

No, we'll just get screwed with US locked releases, which is why it's important that nobody buys them so that licensing their games to Aksys (etc) becomes financially impossible because nobody will pay.krokodil_final wrote:i hope there will be PAL love too, beside us-releases ...
Then you get region free.

Anyone know what Cave's next plans are for home ports or at least have a very good idea what is coming next?
I know Guwange will be available on Live and I've read that a possibly DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu maybe the next home port.
That's all I'm aware of at the moment.

Massive clean up, also locking this as it has served (or failed) it's purpose by now. What a mess. Grow up, some of you - seriously.
