The Phantasmagoria games have got nothing on TSS.
Well, okay. PoDD is close.

Re: Next touhou: Shoot the bullet sequel "Double Spoiler"
They are in the same spirit of a versus game relying heavily on elements of a shmup. Phantasmagoria is like along the lines of a versus puzzle/shmup (like puyo puyo) You aren't directly squaring off, but more of a passive aggressive fight. Senko is more of a arena fighter/shmup. My bad touching a nerve, I generally lump versus intensive games under a single umbrella if they borrow from the same base genre.lgb wrote:why does everyone compare tss to suguri

Re: Next touhou: Shoot the bullet sequel "Double Spoiler"
I liked boss mode, but the thing that made AOS more fun was that it was actually fast. Senko is slow as a squirrel towing a house.orange wrote:i like aosuguri more than snr because boss mode is hella dumb
I wish Zun would do a game like AOS though.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.
Re: Next touhou: Shoot the bullet sequel "Double Spoiler"
Boss mode is pretty fair, just one or two of the boss modes (like Ernula) are really something of a miracle to dodge completely against an opponent who knows the ins and outs of their character.orange wrote:i like aosuguri more than snr because boss mode is hella dumb
He would probably need to team up with Tasfro again as it would be hard for him to code that sort of game all by himself. I never felt Senko as slow, but Suguri just had faster mobility and speed of bullets. Both good games. Come on ZUN this is a pretty good idea (far better than the mediocre SWR).null1024 wrote: I liked boss mode, but the thing that made AOS more fun was that it was actually fast. Well, I may have over simplified my assertion. I will concede to this point and classify all shmups under one umbrella hence forth and call them...shmups!lgb wrote: start lumping shmups under a single umbrella

This game is amazing and any previous naysayers are officially full of shit.
I've already got stage 6 unlocked.

Yep. This one is another gem next to StB and UFO.
It runs smoother than any other Touhou I've seen before. Inputs are a little irresponsive though.
And damn ... Stage 6 already ?

That charging sound is useful as an audio cue for how close you are to being able to shoot again, but god damn it hasn't gotten any less annoying.

You've got to admire the power of the ZUN. He trolls the fans and such, then slams them even more.

Can't wait to start playing this. It's nice to see surprises from ZUN, though I doubt this is on the level of SSiB's "Declare war on the moon just to steal their alcohol".

Re: Next touhou: Shoot the bullet sequel "Double Spoiler"
I found it on /jp/, but I'm buying it as soon as it's available to me. This is some top-tier stuff here.
Re: Next touhou: Shoot the bullet sequel "Double Spoiler"
I've been checking it. Seems he gave the old sprites a little make up as they are more animated now. That's nice, as long as it doesn't become like the human sprites in Seihou (whose movement really irks me, for further reference check VIVIT as a boss or the human enemies in the Extra Stage) I'm fine.Momijitsuki wrote:I found it on /jp/, but I'm buying it as soon as it's available to me. Also... this thing is hard, right? Like VERY hard. In short: is it harder than StB?

Re: Next touhou: Shoot the bullet sequel "Double Spoiler"
The game starts out fairly easy, then there's a huge difficulty curve at Level 5. I'm afraid the last levels are going to be more hectic than anything StB has to offer.
The spell cards here are nicely done, but I don't see much dodging tbh :/

Re: Next touhou: Shoot the bullet sequel "Double Spoiler"
I downloaded a demo of it little over hour ago and found out I accidentally downloaded the full game.
It is pretty frustrating because of speed of Aya. Extremely slow when charging and Judge Spear on speed while un-focused.
It is harder than StB, but then again it is manageable.
Got to level 8 with Utsuho and stuff. I hate some scenes. I really HATE some of the scenes.

Re: Next touhou: Shoot the bullet sequel "Double Spoiler"
It's been like that since StB.
I absolutely disgust Murasa's last attack and Yuugi's first two attacks. Those freaking things LOOKED easy, but are total madness when I get to play them.

Re: Next touhou: Shoot the bullet sequel "Double Spoiler"
If you hold Shift alone, you'll go about normal Touhou speed. I very rarely move completely unfocused, but then again, that may explain why I can't really do a damn thing with stages 5 and 6!

3-4? Maybe it's just cause it was 5am, but I saw that and just sat there for a minute wondering how I would do it.Sasupoika wrote:I hate some scenes. I really HATE some of the scenes.

The stream of bullets is targeted at you, and when it hits the ground it produces another stream that rotates bit left or right. It is quite simple after you get it.Pirate1019 wrote:3-4? Re: Next touhou: Shoot the bullet sequel "Double Spoiler"
I understand it perfectly fine and I was still breaking my hand on the desk in frustration. 3 times I got shot down at 95% on the last shot because of some retarded sniper bullet that only sometimes appeared. Twice the frame for the picture was up and the game refused to snap it fast enough so I got hit by a stream or something.

Move as little as possible in 3-4 and it's sooooo much easier.

I already beat it, but you're right about not moving. Too bad the red stream seems to just do whatever the hell it wants. I swear I'd do the exact same thing 5 times in a row and die 3 different ways. Also, I know there's a "Don't cross the streams!" joke in here somewhere.
I saw several of the stage 9 scenes on a livestream last night. Some of those look like absolute hell.

Re: Next touhou: Shoot the bullet sequel "Double Spoiler"
8, 9, and 10 are a nightmare. Then 11 and 12 come along. Those are nowhere near as hard, and are a blast as well.
Re: Next touhou: Shoot the bullet sequel "Double Spoiler"
I see, I see. I'm having nightmare with Orin and Okuu at the moment. Some of them ARE manageable but I seem to screw up or the controls screw up or Aya plain sucks... Actually, I suck but well, it's easier to blame Aya because most people hate her. And now she has "Ayo", the second loli-tengu gossiper? (I know "Ayo" isn't her name but Aya and Ayo fits for me =P)Momijitsuki wrote:8, 9, and 10 are a nightmare. Then 11 and 12 come along. Those are nowhere near as hard, and are a blast as well.
Which are the requirements to unlock the tengu with the tablecloth (or probably it's based on heraldic colours) skirt?
Being slammed by brofists while trying to dodge those damn lasers was also quite headache inducing.
Overall, I think I'm glad he released this. For some reason the bullets looks crisper and clearer. I have been suffering issues while playing UFO because the freaking bullets look damn blurry. Stage 1 was worst offender. Nazrin stuff was practically a blurry mess so I was fearing the same here.
Also, how can I evade Nazrin LOLasers with the coins? I get the feeling I have to fire when the lasers are joining but even then I get destroyed on the next pass...
edit: and 3-4 is there on purpose, ZUN. It's the troll level for the people who are tired, have been working and thought those were the easiest level, heh.

Re: Next touhou: Shoot the bullet sequel "Double Spoiler"
So, general consensus is that this is awesome?
Also @ "accidentally" downloading the full game... how big is the demo?!

EDIT:
Just got it.
It fixes *EVERY* problem I had with StB! The graphics are nicer, you don't automatically shoot if you keep holding Z after the meter fulls [screwed me over too many times in StB], and the camera tilt and rotation makes things so much nicer!
That little tutorial in stage 1-1 was annoying though, I was wondering why the game paused every couple seconds [and it seemed to coincide with when I pressed right and shift...].
The controls still feel weird to me, but I never really got used to playing StB.

I still don't get why so many people had issues with 3-4 ._.
Well yeah, it's easy once you've figured it out of course. Then again the rule of thumb in StB is "if a solid thread of bullets is aimed at you, stream while charging, break the thread and dash to the other side of it" (Photo 5 in Ten Kings Bar, Lunar Incense, Yuyuko's flower petal, etc.).

Re: Next touhou: Shoot the bullet sequel "Double Spoiler"
idk about ZUN, but this game doesn't seem that much harder than StB. The fact that you can rotate the camera now makes things a lot easier in most cases now. The spoiler battles are awesome though, I wish he made the whole game based around that. Or even a versus game out of it would be sweet
