K.O from the A-L/B-L runs is actually LAOS (I believe you can also see him on the game's default scoreboard as "OSD", from "Osada", which I suppose is his surname). The full version of the Gamest #43 tape includes the credits that unambiguously say who exactly is playing.ncp wrote:anyone know if K.O (from the A-L run on super-play) is the same person as the 3rd Strike player of the same name?

Re: DoDonPachi (New Thread #4)

I had a really strange run stemming from something I thought wouldn't really go anywhere when I managed to MISS the 1-up in stage 3

In a nutshell, missed 1-up, failed a full stage chain of stage 4, died on the 5th boss keeping 2 big chains through stage 5, a chain until halfway through stage 6, died on 6th boss once, then proceeded to die on 2nd loop cause I still don't know how to stay alive.
DAD - 102,957,870 - A-L - 2-3 - 467
Its the first time I broke 100,000,000 without skipping ahead using saves for whatever reason...I upload random stuff to youtube occasionally but the scores on the videos there don't count cause I use save states to get to things faster like boss demonstrations, etc.
Re: DoDonPachi (New Thread #4)
Nice playing guys, smashed me out of the top ten

Can upload .inp if anyone wants. Died with bombs right before the 2-3 1-up AGAIN and destroyed the last bullet-cancelling ship in 2-3 too early, so it could have been 140m+
! I am coming for you, BR1! But I think I'll start practicing Futari now, so that number 2 spot is safe... for now

Nice chain
Please do post an inp, I'll add it to the first post (the one I've got from you is looking a bit out of date now).

Definitely nowhere near making the board, nor is it even a good run or good playing, but here's a wolfmame .99 .inp of me clearing the first loop with B-S :P

Does anybody know what the differences between the US and Japanese versions are?

Re: DoDonPachi (New Thread #4)
After playing this game for way too long, and despite a stupid full bombs death on stage 5, I finally get the 1-ALL! Japanese version, all defaults.

Pulsewidth - 41227960 - C-S - 1-All - 287
One bomb, zero lives remaining by the end. I got the 287 chain on stage 2 I think. This is my first arcade 1CC. It was more difficult than both my Touhou Lunatic mode 1CCs. In Touhou games it's too easy to just bomb your way past the very few parts you can't defeat by memorization. DoDonPachi demands strong basic skills all the way through.

Here's the .inp (wolfmame 0.99, ddonpach).
Wish I hadn't messed up the Stage 2 chain.
Would have broken 60 mil easily.

Re: DoDonPachi (New Thread #4)
Something I've been wondering for a while...
Plasmo's top western players list has Sikraiken as the top Dodonpachi score at a massive 530mil. It's been there as long as I've known about the list. Is this correct? Why have I never seen a video of this, and why is it not posted in any of the threads?
Playing some DDP again, hopefully gonna take that top C-type score

There has been a lot of controversy as to whether that score is real or fake. There is no inp or video as proof so it cannot be posted here.ncp wrote:Something I've been wondering for a while...

Re: DoDonPachi (New Thread #4)
I figured that would be the case but couldn't find anything about that in the old hi score threads.
In other news, last night I timed out the 1-6 boss' final pattern. I considered uploading it but I don't think anyone really wants to see me dodge the same pattern for 5 minutes. RIGHT LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT LEFT

2 big chains on stage 4 and 5. 528HIT and 2 deaths on stage 6. Loop 1 score 121M~.
Starting to figure out how to chain the last 3 stages consistently and second loop doesn't seem so hard anymore (Well for some reason I can only play well on loop2 when I don't have any bombs though :/)
Need to start practising loop2, it doesn't really seem all so scary anymore.
no input recorded for this run, I guess it's my luck I get lazy about recording for 1-2 runs and I actually manage not to screw everything up.
next stop; hibachi

Wow, nice score! Good job on taking that #2 spot, it sure wasn't an easy feat. :)

Re: DoDonPachi (New Thread #4)
Good Job LtC!
I have waited a long time for that 2nd spot to improve its score. Go for 300M ? ;]
You will find 2-1 is easy, 2-2 and 2-3 aren't too hard (hard spots are 2-2 boss blue spread pattern, 2-3 midboss and 2-3 boss), and then there is a transition from the middle of 2-4 where difficulty starts being really high with no room for mistakes at all.
Reaching Hibachi is possible if you know your game well until 2-4 and then use your bombs well. Knowledge of 2-4/2-5/2-6 routes will save you so many bombs, though, that it's really a good idea to roughly memorize them before attempting a run to Hibachi.

Fighting Hibachi with C-L is likely going to be a nightmare, though. :\
(Then again, lower speed = higher precision.)

Yeah I don't agree, I remember saying once that if I could switch ships just for Hibachi, I would likely choose C-L. It has a strong enough laser and perhaps the most suitable speed for this fight.moozooh wrote:Fighting Hibachi with C-L is likely going to be a nightmare, though. :\

Re: DoDonPachi (New Thread #4)
I'm not an expert on Hibachi, and it may be a completely different battle altogether, but I have survived the stage 1-6 boss better with C-S than with A-L, and I suspect that my hypothetical results with C-L would be even better. The reason I don't use C-L is that it's trouble during stages (rather than bosses), especially if you miss and are left with a next-to-useless shot strength.PROMETHEUS wrote:Yeah I don't agree, I remember saying once that if I could switch ships just for Hibachi, I would likely choose C-L. Therefore, I have to side with PROMETHEUS on this one.
Re: DoDonPachi (New Thread #4)
The only no-miss Hibachi I've ever seen was with C-S. And I know you've seen that one Moozooh

Re: DoDonPachi (New Thread #4)
I don't think 300M is near my reach just yet. Although I just had my first run no-missing the entire first loop all the way to 2-2, I don't think I have what it takes to hold the MAX bonus through 1-6 boss yet. 200M is propably possible with good first loop and a decent 2nd loop.PROMETHEUS wrote:Go for 300M ? ;]

I have never practised anything beyond start of 2-3 so I should really start practising the later loop. I haven't even tried Hibachi yet just because I thought it was pointless at this point :(
2-1 is relatively easy, only annoying part is the midboss where it can randomly throw the annoying cluster at you.
2-2 is something I really need to practise, the 160m run was the first time I had no-miss no-bombed it but I couldn't hold the chain all the way.
This is really really annoying. I've had few runs where I die at 60M on 1-4 boss, then I suicide 2 times on the boss just to start with 3 power for stage 5... and 2 of those runs ended up with dying with bombs in stock ~110-120M right before the bullet cancelling part of 2-3...malik11 wrote:The reason I don't use C-L is that it's trouble during stages (rather than bosses), especially if you miss and are left with a next-to-useless shot strength.
Luckily you don't lose all your secondary power when you die at loop2.
Yeah, took me over a year to get this far and I have put many times more effort on DDP than any other shmup so far. Hopefully by next year I've made it to Hibachi and the year after that maybe even 2-ALL.moozooh wrote:Wow, nice score! Good job on taking that #2 spot, it sure wasn't an easy feat. :)
Been playing a lot of DDP the past week but I will propably take some break/play less for a bit. If I don't get a better score in the near future I'll post input from my other run where I no-missed the first loop and trainwrecked the 2nd reaching around 130M by 2-4 boss.

2-ALL with C-L would be very sexy.LtC wrote:Yeah, took me over a year to get this far and I have put many times more effort on DDP than any other shmup so far. Hopefully by next year I've made it to Hibachi and the year after that maybe even 2-ALL.
But to each achievement its own time. I want to see you break 200M with a nice replay !
About that weak-shot-after-death problem, I'm sure it's pretty annoying but on the plus side this is something that will bother you less and less as you get good, because you are reaching the score threshold where the main thing that matters to improve is to survive without dieing or bombing, as far as possible. So if you die once, you're screwed from that point onwards anyway.
Aaah... Dodonpachi -_-
