If u wanna try to 1cc a classic i heartedly recommend the NES version of Gradius i found that i would die repeatedly in the 1st stage but after trying for a length of time everything clicked and then it was just a case of memorising the stages.
Ive said this many a time but recca (this is the last time promise
) really is quite easy if u get powered up and know which weapons to use where and how to use ur shield / bomb

This is it really. It's as simple as that.Dragoforce wrote:Practice, train and practice some more.
Now I've put a few years into shmups I've learned that whatever one I play, it adds to my overall ability across the genre.
And Smraedis is right - the more you tackle harder shumps, the easier everything else gets.
Still, I've only got easy 1CC's really.
Deathsmiles is certainly a great sparing/training shmup, as you can get an easy 1CC with everything on level one without having set the difficulty to easy, and then you can train yourself up to level threes.
And then there's Harmful Park, Blast Wind and Nemesis (AKA Nemesis Ultra AKA Gradius GB) if you want a super easy shmup 1CC.
My first 1CC was the US Progear at my local arcade, and I played that game weekly for four to six months to get the 1CC. Some of us do it in a week - some take longer. You just have to pluck away and commit.
Or just play for score and forget the stupid cocking 1CC!

Genetos is a good choice for your first 1cc.
It gives you so many lives, it can appear like a training session when you get shot ten times in a row and you're still in play. Later on, your much smaller hitbox can make the game seem equally forgiving. This saves some frustration, as you'll have more lives to play with in the more manic sections later on.
The game won't unlock the level and weapon selectors until the first time you 1cc it; your pride will prevent you from wimping out and unlocking it on the easiest level, at least until you've played it for ten or more hours -- the practice will do you some good.
Just one tip: with the last two bosses, don't be too proud to use the secondary fire. You might not need its bullet slow-down effect, but it concentrates fire on the boss, who takes far too long to die otherwise.

Re: Love shmups, never 1cc'd a game
Genetos is the easiest shmup ive ever played, i 1CCed it on normal difficulty the first time i played it, (and i class my skills as been under par). Something so easy that i dont even think of it when i think of the games ive 1cced.
Still imo it doesnt really matter how hard or easy other ppl say a game is, at the end of the day its all about wether YOU find a shmup to be challenging or not. For example Blue wish resurrection was my 1st ever 1cc when i first got into shmups, i must of spent a month to beat it and although others on this forum say they beat it first try im still happy with myself for sticking with it.

"Normal" = skill level 2. Think of "Programmer" (level 3) as the easy setting, and "Hacker" (level 4) as medium.TrevHead (TVR) wrote:i 1CCed it on normal difficulty the first time i played it

Yea if memory serves then the hardest difficulty and possibly the 2nd hardest do pose some sort of challenge, but i didnt find it fun to play i much prefered to play on hacker or the next hardest level. As with genetos i found more pleasure from unlocking stuff and testing out the different weapons to try and get a big combo and score.microcosm wrote:"Normal" = skill level 2. I think I'm going to reduce talking about how easy or hard my 1CC's were from now on. Too many friends who think I'm some sort of secretly-Japanese robot god for 1CC'ing EoSD normal (or rather, getting past stage 3 on one credit), too many acquaintances who think taking more than 2 tries to 1CC Omega Five or Thunder Force III on Mania makes you an idiot.
