Xeno Fighters EX & R (new thread)

Post by Aru-san »

You can download the original version here.
You can download the current version of the remake here.

Xeno Fighters EX is a homebrewed shoot 'em up created by Alluro that mixes elements from Raiden Fighters with bullet hell patterns reminiscent of Cave and Psikyo titles.

The remake, made in Game Maker, has gone through a complete overhaul, including several new ships to go along the old ones as well as a refined, extremely deep scoring system that mixes not only the Raiden Fighters 1/2 medal system (slightly modified), but also Battle Bakraid's multipler system (not anymore as of releases above v0.1), DoDonPachi's chaining system (not anymore as of releases above v0.1), and Raiden Fighters Jet's bonus chaining system.

If there's anything I have missed regarding more recent versions of the remake, please state them and I will make changes to the scoreboard accordingly.

Note: Training scores and continue scores will not be accepted in XFR.
Expert scores and arcade scores get top priority on the overall high score list.
If a player submits to multiple difficulties, the highest score of the highest difficulty/arcade mode will be the score displayed on the overall high score list.

Format:
[Difficulty Level] - [Version]
[Name] - [Score] - [Stage (Progression if submitting for R)] - [Max Chain (R only)] - [Ship Used]

XFR Conquest Mode format:
[Difficulty Level] - [Stage] - [Name] - [Score] - [Max Chain] - [Ship Used]

XFR Difficulty Key:

Wow, awesome game. Took me a while to figure out to read the readme.txt how to prevent game from crashing at stage 3.

Normal - Original
Ltc - 36,880,680 - 8 - Raiden Mk. II
Bad run for scoring but I suppose someone has to start by putting an easy score to beat here

Pretty hectic run, I went from stage 3 boss to stage 8 on the first try with only 1 life. Oh how I waited for extend to come, I guess you don't get any in this game :/

Well, you could've at least asked me before opening a new thread.
And why didn't you take over my score?

Whoops. Sorry about that. I'll try not to make that mistake next time I take over a scoreboard I don't own.

Figured out how to get over 10K's from medals. Stupid run overall but since it's so close to Plasmo I can't resist posting this.

The remake demo doesn't save highscores, does it?
Oh yeah and my 70mill score is kinda crap, I should start playing this great game again.

Currently it does not save high scores. You have to screencap your score quickly either right after you lose your last life or you finish Stage 3.

Made another run. 34M~ after stage 2 but didn't go so well after that. I can't really find any of those blue things whatever they were called after stage 4 later half.

Owned by stage 8, seems like it's almost physically impossible to dodge those fast ships and their shots on Raiden Mk. II :/

Alluro - 59,850,410 - ALLd1 - Raiden mk-II

Holy crap. Trying to do a score attack run with the Raiden in the remake is frustrating. The Raiden is definitely an expert's ship here. This is a screencap from a video I recorded of myself getting this score with the Raiden mk-II.

Stage 1: I was able to get a 33 chain in this stage up to the boss. Stupidly died as I finished the boss off. Finished Stage 1 with 47.6 million points.

Stage 3: I screwed up several scoring opportunities here. Also, got careless at the middle and died while my bomb was dropping.

I dropped tons of medals in 100K mode, keeping my medal value at 10,000 points most of the time. Otherwise my score would have been much higher.
The age of Alluro and JudgeSpear is over.

Maybe if we can get enough good remake players here, we can create a Xeno Fighters EX superplay compilation with tips and tricks on scoring like they do on the INH superplay videos.

I'm not sure if it still exists, but one of the bosses had a bullet grazing glitch. You could park your ship just off center at the bottom and walk away. I did that a few years back - I parked the ship and left the house for a few hours. When I came back I had some ridiculous score.

That probably could have been one of Alluro's factors as to why he took out grazing in the remake. It can easily be milked.

New high score in the remake:

Alluro - 67,025,230 - ALLd1 - Raiden mk-II

Here's a video of this high score: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKODJ-tXoKU&fmt=18
The age of Alluro and JudgeSpear is over.

I guess I should keep my scores up to date. Died at Panda again. I think this'll be my last submission for this version unless I stumble into an ALL.

Xeno Fighters R v0.6 Beta Final - Arcade Mode - 1→2→3-B→4-A→EX1→EX3
TVR - 150,164,620 - EX3 - Raiden mk-IIβ

Anyone else got some scores for this? :P

On Xeno Fighters R - v0.6 Final (Arcade):

BPzeBanshee - 112160060 - Stage WTF - Lord British
Stage progression: 1>2>3-A>4-A>EX-1>EX-3>WTF
Max Chain: 47

If desired I can upload a screenshot of my high score table.

[EDIT] On second thought, progression tracking might not really be required after all.

I'd argue that stage progression of some sort should be required, especially as the way XF-R works now with B stages having more scoring potential than A stages.
If Alluro for example did an arcade score and just said "4875w89475w974" whereas I only get "495498", I'm certainly going to be like "WTFBBQ! How did he get that much score?!". That answer is easily explained by showing the B stages travelled through.

Score progression stage tracking revived.

By the time the final version comes, stage progression could potentially look like this for these situations:

Code: Select all

               E E E E E E
            123X4X5X6X7X8X9
               1 2 3 4 5 6

4ALL model: 12BXBXBXBXBX8X9 4ALL
3ALL model: 12BXB A A BX8 3ALL
2ALL model: 12A A A A A 2ALL
1ALL model: 12A A C 1ALL

Now accepting Conquest Mode scores. I'll start most of it off with my crappy scores. :)

Stage 1 - Aru-san - 7,375,479 - 13 - Phyxius
Stage 2 - Aru-san - 15,011,919 - 44 - Phyxius
Stage EX-1 - Aru-san - 9,814,679 - 31 - Phyxius
Stage EX-3 - Aru-san - 23,680,369 - 17 - Phyxius [UPDATE]

My scores:

Stage 1 - BPzeBanshee - 8,661,369 - 16 - Jade Knight
Stage 2 - BPzeBanshee - 18,385,479 - 52 - Phyxius
Stage 3-B - BPzeBanshee - 13,854,229 - 13 - Phyxius [I fail at Stage 3B, always :(]
Stage 4-A - BPzeBanshee - 14,288,979 - 20 - Phyxius [I fail at this one too, the speed fighters get me at the last wave]
Stage EX-1 - BPzeBanshee - 11,336,470 - 65 - Blue Javelin [I dont know how I did this, must've been smoking something]
Stage EX-3 - BPzeBanshee - 19,113,290 - 17 - Phyxius

Had any luck with the Gyaraga Aru-san? I strangely seem to be able to get a higher chain score with it, and prior to my Jade Knight spaz attack it was #1 for my Stage 1 high score.

I've experimented with it with Arcade Mode, but my chaining in this game sucks real hard, though. Haven't tried it much with Conquest Mode considering that I seem to play favorites with Phyxius every time.

Now that I think about it, this game would totally benefit from a replay system.
