Gamepark bought the license to old arcade games?

I recently bought a new game for my Wiz (Decide 3), and it came with some arcade games as a bonus (apparently they put them with some games). The ones I got were Snow Bros 2, Twin Cobra, Out Zone, Demon's World, and Zero Wing. They make a big point to say that they acquired the license to the games and can distribute them. The games themselves seem to run fine, looks to be a custom emulator since it runs much better than the MAME port for the system.

Upon further research, Gamepark apparently bought the license to quite a few games, many of them being shooters. The list is at: http://www.globalgph.com/m3/sub5.php

How does this work then? Lots of Toplan stuff on the list...

that's pretty interesting.seems people are very unsure about who owns teh right to the toaplan games( read g.p's toaplan translation on gamengai for a bit more insight on that). i just wonder if batsugun,vv,dogyunn et al have sound.. now that would be cool!

That download link goes nowhere, and the whole thing seems kind of fishy - they also advertise that it can use emulators (no roms on the site, but still ...). Not sure about this - but that's a nice selection of games that is just limited and strange enough to make me think that, yeah, they do own the licenses.

All these little handhelds seem to run flavors of Linux, so I'm guessing it'd be possible to get the emulator and assorted files on PC. Finding someone who cares enough to do that may be the problem.

The site they mention (FunGP) is apparently still being betatested in Korean now; after the Korean launch they intend to make an English version.

I'd rather see a Toaplan compilation for 360, but it's still good news. I'm also very intrested regarding the sound in their later games.

You can't download the games, you have to buy them with the other games they're bundled with at the moment, although they'll probably have them for sale eventually.

Anyway, the whole idea of the Wiz is that it's an open-source system, so there are a lot of emulators and indie games available for it. It's an official handheld system in Korea, so it's definitely legit. The emulators are a big selling point for the system, so they advertise the feature pretty heavily (of course, they don't actually distribute anything themselves). You can also buy official games for the system, although I think they're waiting for the FunGP launch to start moving most of the releases to digital distribution. It does seem kind of odd that they'd want to buy the licenses to these games since there's a pretty good MAME port available for the system, but maybe they see it as a stepping-stone to get more legit ports available.

It's just kind of bizarre that they'd end up holding the rights to the games, there are also some non-Toplan stuff there too so I wonder how the contract was handled.

I find it interesting that they used another company's property (Arkanoid) as the genre for Ghox.
