RQ: Scoring in Ketsui Death Label?

Post by spadgy »

I just can't score much in this game, and I'm almost convinced I'm missing something.

I know you have to be closer with the laser and for the kill to get the highest scoring gems.

I know killing an enemy with autolock depletes your multiplier, but I thought you had to kill with lock on to claim the multiplier? I can't see how to make that work for me.

I also don't know the effect of red gems, bullet cancelling etc.

I also can't see the effect of or using normal (Y-button) firepower.

How on earth do you milk score from this game? Is it just a case of not dying and never bombing?

Help!

No body can help? I'm scoring a little more from finishing off boss elements without lock-on, saving my multiplyer for the final kill, but it's barely helping, and sometimes counter productiive.

It's driving me nuts!

I've never actually played this for more than like 20 seconds, but I'm fairly certain you milk score by lasering then stopping before you lock on, and repeat. Bombing gives you chips for bullets, I believe, so never bombing doesn't seem like a good strategy.

Disclaimer: I could be totally wrong about everything I just said, but give it a try. That was how I understood it when nash87 gave me a very quick explanation of the scoring. I could also be remembering wrong, who knows.

Thanks ncp. I'll have a little play around with that and see how it goes.

Time to investigate the contents of the DVD a little bit more.

Those are from teach me! ikd-san!! lessons in the DS version and my own personal experience:
-1- Regular shot.
- Only the 2nd and the 4th beams give you multiplier (xoxox). I think it's allways 1x.
- When you finish an enemy or the boss part with the regular shot, you multiplier does not decrease, so you need to finish everything with the regular shot (more on that in lock-shot).

-2- Lock-shot
- Only the central beam gives you multiplier (xxoxx), the closer you are to the enemy, the higher the chip you'll get.
- If you destroy anything with the lock-shot, your multiplier will decrease. I can't say for certain and i haven't got to that lesson with IKD-san, but finishing a boss with the lock-shot can sometimes give you more scores than finishing the same boss with the regular shot, even though regular shot saves you the multiplier. Also, the amount of points you get, as well as amount of multiplier chips depends on how many boss parts are still intact, your distance to the boss and the type of shot you used.

-3- Bombs and autobombs.
- Autobombing decreases your multiplier. So turn it off and learn to use regular bombs.
- In the DS version bomb amount gets restored each stage, you get 3. If you don't die on a boss you'll get the "No Miss Bonus" and an extra bomb (that'll make 4).
- Regular bombs convert enemy bullets into multiplier chips. Again, the closer you are to the bullet, the higher the chip will be.

-4- Death.
- Death takes away a lot of multiplier. So don't die.

-5- Boss and boss parts.
- When you destroy a boss, all his bullets convert into chips, like with the bombing, so it's best to destroy it when there's lots of bullets on screen.
- Doom in his final form sets the same invinvibility shield as you do when you use the bomb. He doesn't receive any damage, but you can still get multiplier chips from him.

So, basically, what you need to remember is this:
- Get as close to the enemy/boss part as possible and use the lock-shot to farm multiplier chips and damage the enemy.
- When it gets red and blinking, use the regular shot to finish it off, so you don't lose the multiplier.
- Destroy popcorn enemies with the regular shot. If you kill them with lock-shot, you'll be surprised to know how much your multiplier has dropped.
- Don't waste bombs. Also, try not to use the bombs to help you survive, use it only to get as much multiplier chips as possible. That is, use the bombs only when there's the maximum amount of bullets from the boss attack.

Hope that wasn't too obvious...
I'll try to edit/add new info to this thread/post when i'll know more from IKD-san's lessons.

basically....

use the tap shot technique to maximize cubes. it takes a little bit to get the rhythm down, but you want to release shot as soon as your first lock-on starts and then tap shot again. do this at all times while in 5 cube range.

bombs add to multiplier. every bullet on screen becomes a 5 cube, so bomb the densest patterns to add the most multiplier.

multiplier gets cashed in every time you kill an enemy with lock-on. when you cash in your multiplier decreases (it looks like 10%). this includes popcorn enemies and individual pieces on multi-segmented bosses, so you want to make sure you kill those with plain old shot. this is especially important on the ship boss, those little planes will destroy your multiplier if you are killing them with lock-on.

don't ever die or autobomb. it ruins your multiplier.

milk each little bit of multi-segmented enemies. but keep in mind that bosses do time out, so you've only got so much time to fill up your milk bottle.

thats all i can think of. when i get my dsi-xl at the end of the month i'm going to be back on this game hard, so you'll have some company in the scoring thread :D .
