Montreal: Where to buy & Arcades?

Post by supaT »

I've very recently moved (3 days :D) to Montréal and would like to know from the locals here (I know there are some) a) where I can buy used video games and b) if there are any arcades around? I saw some at the Future Store on Sainte Catherine road, but not at very economic rates.

PS: Cell phone rates are such a rip-off. :|

Welcome to Montreal. :)

For arcade games, I don't know. For used games and accessory junk, there's this dingy little store on St. Catherines and... fuck I can't remember, it's near Complexe Des Jardins.

Not too helpful, I know sorry. I will check it out tomorrow and post the name of the place.

hey man, welcome to the city. theres a few Game Buzz's but they are extremely overpriced as they're going for a niche market of rich game collectors. they do have some rare stuff though, so if you're ever searching and you got the $$ to spend its worth checking out. other than that i usually buy my used games from Electronics Boutique. In regards to arcades, i dont know of any that are any good, let alone with any shmups. theres one down st. cat's past concordia that has street fighter 4, but it really sucks otherwise.

PS
cell phones in canada have the worst rates in the world. fuckin sucks!

Thanks! I still have to settle a bit and searching for housing atm. I think I know the store you're referring to and it's temporary closed as far as I can see. The need for games is not urgent, but after I've found a place to stay for long-term I definitely get myself a console again.

No, not much $$s in my pocket so far. I'm working in research, so I'll think it stays that way until I work in industry again. I'll take a look at this Electronics Boutique then.

hey another mtl+van member. wazzup.

I just moved here in August, and the shops aren't as good as weekly games booths at the Vancouver Flea market. Seems online is still the best place unless you're in Akihabara?

Now that we're all here, does anyone go to Cinexpress for SF?

Seems like Gamebuzz on St. Catherines closed down? Lol those guys had a copy of SF3: TS for DC last spring going for 150$.

I would like to check out Cinexpress. How I long for the golden years of Montreal arcades (early to mid 90s). We need to do a Montreal meet of some kind... after the snow is gone.

wazzup... Yeah, I wish there were better arcades here, anything with some shmups and working joystick would be rad. I don't think I've ever been to Cinexpress unless thats that place on st. cats. I don't really play SF, but my roommate does, maybe we'll check it out at some point. A meet would be cool, does anyone have a cab at their housse?

Sounds rad, although I'd probably be a bit embarrassed considering how shitty I am at shmups!

Aight! I register with communauto this week, therefore I should be able book a car in the very near future. If we share the rate it won't become too expensive. Moreover, if someone else has a car already, the better. Depending whether or not a car is available, what about a meet on the 27th or one week after?

Cool man, that's really nice of you! I probably won't be able to for a while though, gotta save up some $$. Did you end up uploading the video from last meet? I looked in the shmupmeet thread but didn't see anything.

Sure. It depends mostly on who can or want to join the trip. As far as I can see, robthebanks is out. Hopefully No_not_like_quake and/or Kingbuzzo are available on one of the following weekends. Otherwise I just wait for you to schedule your next meet. Where do you live in Toronto? (pref. by PM) I need to look for a place to stay early on I guess, maybe you can even recommend one.
