Why is this forum so full of elitist pricks ?

I just came across this website to realize that almost every single thread here was full elitist douches thinking they're the best thing ever made since sliced bread and constantly dissing people not being able to "1 credit clear X game" or posting low scores, let alone those who get flamed for not being able to buy "this" pcb and therefore playing "this" game on console.

Could someone enlighten me on that ?

Why most people here make it look like my favourite genre is only being played by the worst kind of gamers ever ?

I was rather happy at first to find a shoot-em up related forum with such great scorers, but it really saddens me to see that most of them are so full of themselves, and constantly have to dishearten and discourage those who want to try to become better. And it's a shame, really.

Maybe i'm just wrong, but from what i've seen on the threads that showed interest to me, it made me quite sad.

There's one, i repeat ONE case where i have ever read that someone got bashed for a low score here...
and that was because he was bragging how incredibly good he is and how he's going to get the WR.

So either learn to read or get a brain.

He's partially correct, just not so much as he would have been in, say, 2006. There are a lot of really amiable, informative and helpful people here, but the place has generally always had a horrendously insular and odious atmosphere; every third or fourth post is some needlessly snarky put-down or a veritable treatise on why [User X] is a dickhead for not liking or understanding something. There certainly isn't any discouragement of people who try to do well, but there's no olive branch extended to people who don't really know their stuff, either, so it's rare for new folks to stay around for very long, or for credit-feeders to learn anything. Personally, I've resigned myself to just putting up with it and scrolling past half of the posts to get to the interesting bits.

While this happens on occasion, its the internet so you can just ignore them. Also the general chat forum is probably the worst here, when your talking in the Highscores or strat sections people seem to behave better.

This certainly seems to be the case. I've only been reading the high score section for the last few days (normally I'm happy enough to just beat my own ), but the atmosphere in there is so much more easy-going. It feels a more like a gathering of like-minded people, as opposed to a sneery pissing contest.

I do think things have gotten a little bit more snarky and hostile in the last year or so. I'm always worried it's gonna get like other forums that basically have a bunch of annoying teen members(take your pick).

Nothing too crazy, but it's on the upswing.

I don't even get it. I've only been in one or two quarrels, and I don't have a habit of saying shit to people for making a "dumb" post. But some people are compelled!

And I really like some of the people who do it. Oh well.

Haven't really seen anyone here to bash someone's score - although I can imagine something like that happening if someone brags about it for no good reason. But I do agree with Klatrymadon, this forum's atmosphere isn't the most encouraging one for new people. Then again, that's pretty common with any gaming forum with such an enthusiastic fanbase.

Why Wii doesn't get any shmup attention outside milestone? I believe the answer is that Cave are a bunch of fucking elitist pricks! They pick the worst console just to make their games niche, now Asada said that their next games won't be region-free. It just confirms it. Don't even defend Cave because it's obvious that it's illogical to defend them with such facts. Wii > 360 in terms of accessibility, isn't that what we want for our genre?

I think some people come across as dicks. But you know what? Once I was a dick, then I helped someone, then I got a high score and posted it, then I came here just to post in off topic for 3 years, then I bought a few PCB's.. Occasionally I am a dick or come across as a dick.. But i'm not always a dick.. Sometimes I'm just a funny old sausage, your just going to put up with it.

This is particularly wrong. Nearly all the highscore threads on this forum (bar one or two rare exceptions) are very welcoming, and encourage people to get involved whatever their ability.

Look, every member here has their off-days, and we've got a few characters for sure, but this place really is friendly, enthusiastic and damn funny. Elitist? I doubt it? Douche bags? Yeah - there's loads of us - but we're still nice people!

you are wrong...very wrong...this is one of the friendliest forums ive ever been on.....sure people can be jerks some times...but this is a video game forum full of lonely/angry nerds....it helps to lash out sometimes

Yep.

I'm about as newb as they come. I've posted flat-out saying how much I suck at these games, asking for tips to improve, and even posting in the high-score forum despite having garbage scores. The only time anyone's ever given me shit is when I made a flat-out retarded comment (and thus deserved said shit).

The only time I see people around here act elitist or douche-y is when people come along and give damn good cause.
