The Ultimate List Of Video Game Title Suffixes

Post by EinhanderZwei »

Let's make a list of all the commonly used suffixes for videogame tites, complete with definitions :) Because sometimes titles like Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha make my brain melt

I'll begin:

- EX - no idea
- DX - no idea
- X - cheapest way to entitle the subseries (ex. Megaman X)
- Neo - sequel, remake or special version (ex. Counter Strike Neo, Thexder Neo, Neo Contra)
- Plus - add-on, expansion pack or smth like that
In an alternate universal, Soldier Blade II has already been crafted by Hudson Soft and Compile with proper tate this time around (c) PC Engine Fan X!
Sega tried and failed. Nintendo didn't even try. (c) Specineff

- Unleashed - This franchise is going nowhere. Please buy the new installment anyway.
- Xtreme - This franchise is going nowhere, so we added more tits and/or blood and/or characters frowning. Please buy the new installment.

- 2 - A sequel.
- 3 - Another sequel.

I think I am doing it wrong.

1.5 - We fucked up, so here's another, bug-free version.
Black Label - Same game with minor changes. And full price tag.
Millenium - The game was released in 2000.

XG - moar buttons. Or an ascii representation of your face as you attempt to play it. See Guitar Freaks / Drum Mania XG

IIDX - moar buttons. Like "deluxe", but twice as much. Twice the DX, but balls are not touching.

Remember, games with an X somewhere in the title sell more. Really.

Silver, Gold, Platinum, etc - Please buy the same game again. We added something new.

Director's Cut: "we're just adding the stuff we kept from you in the first release. harharhar!"
64: always thought it was stupid.
Extreme: often used improperly.
+: reminds me of math. No good.
Edition: almost genius way of making kids buy the same game twice.
Wii: no need to be so obvious, geez.
GX: as seen in F-Zero GX. Dunno what it means.
X: OK when used to mean the tenth game. Not OK when used to be edgy.

Oh, almost forgot...was it really necessary to add Sigma to the PS3 version of Ninja Gaiden? At first I thought it was a new series.

LE - You could buy the exact same game for $20 less, but this one has a shinier box and makes you more hardcore.
GOTY Edition - Someone who writes for a magazine thought this game was the shit 3 years ago, and you still haven't bought it. You loser.

Those two remind me of another:

Collector's Edition: Available for a limited time, it's the same game but with a soundtrack CD. Unfortunately, you won't know that the soundtrack is rubbish until you buy the game.

Waggle edition will be common soon.

3D (you need to spend $15000 to appreciate this game to the max)

Ultimate edition (one day we will do one better than that)
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Remixed/Reloaded - we changed the portable version around from the home version for no real reason, just to annoy you.
MAX - please pretend this portable version is as good as the home version, or, new songs shoehorned into the same damn game.
Turbo - this version is better than the last version but we aren't sure how.
Hyper - we crammed too much stuff from our old games into this one, or, this version is for tweekers and caffeine abusers.

Gaiden - We haven't bothered trying to situate this one chronologically, because the previous games' storylines are already such a nebulous, poorly-written clusterfuck we figured it wasn't worth our time or yours, frankly. Just get it played, you sour-faced cunt.

Final - hope you like this one because we seriously aren't making another one. If you're lucky we might use the same name for a totally different style of game, or have some junior employees do an HD version. Go cry somewhere else.

AC - the arcade-quality version we should have done in the first place.

'Jet' was always the best, no lie. 'Perfect' can go soak its head.
IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

these mostly aren't very shooter-y

I thank Key/Visual Arts for the following
EX- ecstasy (we've made it 3 times as long and added porn, except in the all ages version)
Standard (Edition) (no longer hurts your eyes)
Best (we aren't redoing all the graphics again, well they have but it is 6 years later)
~It's a Wonderful life~ (we thought the title should be longer, all ages was getting boring)
Full Voice (people often get this one confused, means the player characters lines are voiced)
*insert a sentance of engrish here* (yey engrish that no one will remember or notice is a sub title).

64- we couldn't think of a better one and the previous was on the SNES

my current favourite is the When They Cry (-no naku koro ni) series' monster:
07th Expansion Presents. Welcome to Rokkenjima. "When They Cry 3" (Umineko no Naku Koro ni 4)
12.3 -( it should be 12.5 but it's the 3rd game in this spin off (Touhou Hitsuzensoku))
Memorial- (we stopped developing this, so we're bundelling all the expansions.)
AIR -(we couldn't use summer edition again.)
