Which version? There's been a bootleg version out there for months.neorichieb1971 wrote:Importers are already shipping.CMoon wrote:Comes out on March 2 on DVD/Blu-ray in the US.

Although from the looks of it its only dvdworldusa.com that is shipping currently (where I bought mine albeit at a premium of £21). If you look closely they have a price for beating the street date and a price for the ACTUAL street date.. How slimey is that?
Its not bootleg, bought many movies from dvdworldusa.com.

There was like... no one in the theater when I went. Maybe a couple couples my age (I was 19 at the time, 20 now) and a couple parents with their kids, but it was mostly an empty house.xris wrote:I got to see this in the theater, it was hyper cute. Super lush animation. The weird part was being the oldest guy in a theater full of teenage girls, they loved it. I still prefer Pom Poko.

My blu ray copy has shipped.
I will post pics of it if someone else hasn't done already. I will also give a quick review of the blu ray disc and its features.

Re: Ponyo
Well I think i'd give it a 7/10. Its like a well told story but it lacks pace.. But one thing it does not lack is imagination for that I'd give it 10/10. Blu ray was flawless and colorful.

Ponyo for me is a 10/10, mostly wanted to hear what you thought about the blu-ray.

Re: Ponyo
PQ - 10/10
AQ - I watched with the English audio since I didn't feel I needed the Japanese track. If I wanted it I would have gone for the Hong Kong version. Audio was very vibrant. In fact the music in the movie is very powerful.
I can't not recommend the blu ray, its fantastic.
If you want the Japanese audio in HD then go for Asian version.

Does the Japanese version have English subtitles?

Re: Ponyo
I would imagine most places in the west which are showing it in JP language will have subtitles. Every screening in the UK which is in japanese has subs (not that its much help you being in LA)CMoon wrote:Does the Japanese version have English subtitles?

Hong Kong version does and is cheaper. I'm not completely sure but either the Japanese or HK version has a hidden English track. HK version is cheaper obviously, but about a 3rd of the price. I think the JP version is $60.

As it says English audio is a bonus, subtitles are there too.

HK version, no English Audio... But has subtitles.

Re: Ponyo
I'm not buying the HK version unless it is a direct rip of the ghibli print. I say this because if you have compared past Ghibli dvds (and those authorized by Ghibli) compared to other versions, the care taken with the DVDs and the overall image has been much better. I don't know anything about the HK version, but I'm suspicious from purchases in the past that it would not look as good as the official Ghibli version, so probably I will be buying the US version.

Finally got my copy. Absolutely beautiful. Noticed the original language is a bit denser at times (anti-crab barrier, etc.) And yes, the baka baka baka baka that wasn't in the English version.

Re: Ponyo
Simple awnser, yes. The JP version has 5/6 languages subbed on it.Lordstar wrote:I would imagine most places in the west which are showing it in JP language will have subtitles. As a general rule if they have subs available they put them on the BD releases (a few anime box sets that had US DVD release before JP BD do).
The eng subs on films exist before the film screens in japan, the copies that go out to licensors have them. (Summer Wars is awsome btw)
UK DVD/BD date is expected to be in june, as if anyone will wait.
