I think most of us already are. It's the rest of the world we need help from.
I've been doing my part to expose people I know to Cave, and overall the response has been very positive. The import price tag is what has kept most my friends from buying.

Am I the only one who isn't excited by the localization? - Is it because I'm in Europe..? Yes. Maybe Deathsmiles will sell... but a localized Futari? Won't anyone who's interested in the game already own it? . Obviously they are pushing for more sales and more money - who can blame them... But for us surely region free was the best option.

Why not??? I mean i am sure that if the game is region free the people who wants to buy it will be the same, the only difference it is that instead of buying an import they will have to wait longer and get their localized version (and maybe have less incomes that if the game was region free). Just because you localize a game it doesn't mean higher sales. Not unless it is marketed properly, something that I doubt, you know people now a days just prefer some Gears of War or Call of Duty games than traditional shooting.

One simple fact: if it's import only, people won't stumble across it by accident.

Exactly... nor will mainstream publications which create buzz...even if only a little.

On the subject of localisation, as long as they don't go too over board on the localising (As with the changes to the US version of Progear), and make running the score boards all the more complex, I'm not fussed if they localise or not. That said it's going to be tough for them; I hope they don't finish themselves off with this drive.

Good point that. I'd love to see a Cave-developed top-down run 'n' gun almost as much as a traditional scrolling shooter.

Finally, that interview on Silicon Era; how do they secure those interviews? I'd love to know, because if Cave do really start to localise properly, I might finally get to write about them for work!

I don't think it's that hard. Kotaku got one at the TGS in September. You probably just have to email and ask. I have a friend that is in no way shape or form related to any type of publication and got an interview w/ Kihaji Okamoto not long ago. Haha.

Good to know GaijinPunch. I'll bare that in mind. I'm guessing the real issue, then, is the language barrier; the point at which my major shortcoming in this regard is exposed!

Technically since DoDonPachi II is already an (IGS developed) arrange of DoDonPachi, then what you are really asking is for a BL verision of DoDonPachi, which has already been made, just never released publically, its called DoDonPachi Campaign Version.

Seeing that get a 360 release would be amazing, and perhaps make sense from a localised publishing point of view. It's Cave's most well know IP/brand internationally, but its a effectively a new release, in terms of how many of us have played it. They wouldn't have to worry too much about loosing sales to the hardcore shmup playing market (us lot), and they might reel in a few extra customers from the more typical hardcore gaming demographic who've heard of Dodonpachi but never invested the time or money (that same userbase who treated themselves to Ikaruga once it got the XBLA release).

Or is Campaign Version untouchable?

According to current rumors, it seems like their plans are to piss off Aksys. Hopefully they just want to move ahead with the "world wide" game, and forget about localizing current releases.

Perhaps they've already realized that localizing isn't worth the effort for the US sales projections.

Maybe in the interview that Asada Had with Siliconera, when implying that they had plans for their games being available worldwide he meant on region free.
But what Kotaku said about Espgaluda II is indeed true, I don't understand that move unless they want to make their limited editions even more limited.

One other word. Actually, it's two compounded words. So that's one compound modifier: Top-down

This migh not be to bad, Cave's answer to games like Shock Troopers or Commando. I do like some areana shmups. Would still rather see shmup with wicked western style apocalyptica design.

I can see a game like this making huge sales....then an article reading "Cave abandons shmups for run and gun games"

I think I remember Asada saying something about wanting to make a game involving mechs back when Futari was announced as region free.
