I used to play on Very Hard, but this game is still bad.
You're playing it wrong.
Playing Gorgeous Mode is like trying to play Virtual On without Twin Sticks. Or playing console ports of Real Time Strategy Games or First Person Shooters. Ironically though, this mode does a better job at parodying itself than Parodius ever did.
EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot you liked Madoka. Yeah, Konami kind of gave up with balancing the characters after they introduced Tita and Madoka, since Mine Yoshizaki probably demanded that the latter be put in there because he loves Twinbee to death and made her ridiculously powerful due to game bias.
Even with spamming burst everywhere that's actually kind of an uninspiring score for that level for being on Harddai jou bu wrote:You're playing it wrong.

Gorgeous Mode is way less broken but by god it's boring. No medals, no burst, much fewer capsules, probably easier than Normal stages. Multiplayer is best experienced in the versus mission, which is probably the closest x-dius has ever had to a caravan mode.

That's actually on Expert for the first stage selected, and it's already pretty intense without having to worry about enemies popping up and trying to kill you, especially if you want to use manual fire instead of autofire with the lasers. Ultimate is kind of impossible to pull any of that off with Anoa beacause of more bullets, zerging enemies, and suicide bullets flying across the screen, so you have to worry about those on top of paying attention to the powerup meter to get the items you need while having enough time to charge up a D-Burst and launch them out before the entire screen is littered with enemies and bullets.
Gorgeous Mode is not how Otomedius was supposed to be played. The point of Otomedius was to spam D-Bursts like crazy, drop a lot of Capsules, pick them up to recharge, and repeat the cycle all over again.

I don't favor Madoka, it's just that she's so powerful that she makes the rest of the cast pretty much irrelevant. Also, constant "strategic" bomb spamming is one of the things I hate about shmups. This is why I dislike Ibara. It's just so stupid.dai jou bu wrote:EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot you liked Madoka. But it's not the lack of effort they put into making a scoring system that bothers me. It's just awful art, weird hitboxes, and boring stages. It's not often that I look at a shmup and go "yeah no I don't want to play this" instead of popping it in and playing it for even 5 minutes. That's why I said the game is bad.

Otomedius: Second hardest Gradius ever?

Skip to 6:18, and watch the lasers around 6:50. That is rather unforgiving for a Gradius game!

Apparently it's on "Very Hard" mode.

It's also on 3-6 and the jump in difficulty for the loop is ridiculous. The first loop is a cakewalk aside from the final boss, but the second will probably rip your shield away in the first couple of levels and then waffle stomp you repeatedly after the first death. No 255-looping this game.BulletMagnet wrote:Apparently it's on "Very Hard" mode.

Re: Parodius is back? Showing at AOU 2007: Otomedius!
So I just bought a japanese points card and am going to get the MBL for Death Smiles and the Easter Island Stage for Otomedius. My question is it worth buying any other DLC for Otomedius such as any of the characters? The extra BGM seems a bit pricey and am not sure if thats worth while.
Re: Parodius is back? Showing at AOU 2007: Otomedius!
The new characters are pretty fun to use. I wasn't feeling Esmarelda that much, but I liked Coon quite a bit. They play differently enough from the other characters. I bought some of the BGM tracks, Tia's and the set for the new characters. I thought the songs were appropriate for the stages, and it was nice to have some different music to listen to since I played the game a lot when it came out. I guess it just depends on whether or not you get sick of the normal music or not.

It seems like the new characters and easter island level were already built into the game cause the download size was very tiny.

I bump up the thread due to the Platinum rerelease of the game because It will be nice to know if Konami is going to add as extra stuff some of the DLC previously released. If they do so I think that I will pick it up once again, because I don't like digital content and I don't want to update my NTSC X360 to the NXE.

When is the plat hit version coming out?
Also... is this game any good? Gradius V on the ps2 was brilliant, but this game looks visually unimpressive. If this game is just mainly boobs I dont want to buy it.

Does anyone know if the Platinum version might include the Downloadable content that was available for the original release or are Konami still going to charge us extra for the extras??
Thanks

I asked the same but nobody replied. I normally deride the idea of buying (or not buying) a game based on the cover. This game was an exception for me. I literally put it back on the shelf due to it's Pedo Bear approved cover 'art'.
Maybe a US version would be acceptable to have in my home.
Re: Parodius is back? Showing at AOU 2007: Otomedius!
You do know that the cover is quite tame compared to what you'll actually see on your screen when you boot the game up, right? The character select and any character portraits are pretty pedo-riffic. If you're secure in yourself and don't mind others seeing you play it, great. But if you're skeeved out just by the cover, you'll probably be irritated by the actual game.antron wrote:I normally deride the idea of buying (or not buying) a game based on the cover. Woah, I thought I'd heard the last of Otomedius. Maybe they'll go XBLA and milk the fans with dlc? Tbh, I love the Gradius/Parodius series' but Otomedius kind of pissed me off - the graphics were pretty dire compared to past entires and it seems nothing is safe from loli/animu :/ It's sad, because the fetishist excesses of modern shmups (which I guess you could argue that the Parodius series is partially to blame for) are ripe for a shellacking that only Parodius coulda delivered.
IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

Actually I was thinking one of the reasons they would even bring this stateside is because it already has a ton of DLC, and even if the game only sells 10k units they could rake in the $$ from micro-transactions as ppl purchase the BGM and extra characters. The game must have 10 dlc packs already on the JPN marketplace.

Just got the re-print of this.A question about the controls (sorry if it was asked before, didn't find it). When I motion left and the options are lined up,why does my character slide all the way straight to the left side of the wall (or into enemies if they're there)? Is this some weird quirk? Intentional? First I thought it was my controller, but I tried 2 different ones and same deal. Thanks.
