Is there a place on the Wiki were we can discuss the changes or should we do it here?

Some possible solutions:

Code: Select all

Output H.Pos. -> Output H.Pos
Output V.Pos. -> Output H.Pos

H. ScreenSize -> H.ScreenSize
V. ScreenSize -> V.ScreenSize

Status screen -> Stat. screen

You can change the proposals at:

http://junkerhq.net/xrgb/index.php/XRGB ... ranslation

or discuss them at that same page discussion page, in order not to clutter this thread.

I think it would be good if the menu the translation is based on was up to more recent firmware version, in other words, we should delete the Color Tint & Depth settings from the translation since they've been removed quite some time ago from the menu completely.

Some other translations from the original script by fubarduck aren't exactly right. Well, they might be considering the japanese menu, but they're misleading after all. One example is the brightness setting which actually isn't a brightness setting, but a contrast setting, so I would propose those more fitting translations for the items in question.

Do I have create an account on the wiki page to change something ?

yes

also, if anything is changed (translation) in "main" page, it MUST also be in "XRGB-3 13 character firmware translation" page

Just added a few suggestions to the discussion page....

Picture Settings:

- Contrast (was Brightness)
- Brightness (was Black Level)

The correct terms are either WHITE LEVEL / BLACK LEVEL or CONTRAST / BRIGHTNESS. The original japanese description is just wrong (as Black Level and Brightness are the same).

For screen settings, I'd prefer Shift and Zoom instead of position and size. It's simply more on track with other video processors out there (but doesn't matter eventually ;))

Suggestions for Options:

D2 Input -> YUV / VGA / RGB (there's no S-Video setting !! Or is RGB the middle one ??)

Special Menu:

VL_V are the horizontal scanlines, so the english description should read H. Scanline (not the same wrong description as in the japanese menu)

And I'd like to suggest to keep LPF for LowPassFilter :)

Thanks Fudoh =)

Thsoe are great suggestions.

VGA was as S-Video since it reads separate in Japanese, changing to VGA now.

They probably meant seperate Sync (for VGA) and composite Sync (for RGBs).

With Micomsoft's eyes and ears on the Wiki we should take the chance and add a page with known problems. Issues like the imcompatibility of the 1080p DVI output with most HDMI inputs out there or the extreme sensibility to noise in the signal (e.g. on PS2's component signal) might be adressable after all....

I agree. I'm having my own share of compability problems i would like to see resolved if possible.

My tv can only display the 1280x1024 resolution with the V-Sync option ON, and can only display 1600x1200 without the V-Sync option OFF. It can't be right that you can't use the V-Sync option to get a stutter/"hiccup"-free picture on all resolutions!
LM1881 - We shouldn't have to install these chips in our cables to prevent blackouts goddammit. :)
And of course i have my problems getting a signal in B1 mode when connecting to my Optoma. Guess i can't rule out that the Optoma is the problem yet though...

FULL_HD Resolution setting is "supposed" to fix this problem.

Please post your TVs with test in HDTV compatibility section

Come to think of it i haven't really used B0 mode after the FULLHD option was included. It's possible that i haven't tried out the different resolutions with FULLHD Low/High ;)

FULLHD doesn't help on my Optoma problems though :/

Will post compatibility some time tomorrow.

Hi everyone!

I just bought an XRGB-3 exclusively for use in B1 mode with classic consoles since I'm a big fan of scanlines. The XRGB is fed with RGB cables from the consoles and then outputs via VGA to my Pioneer PDP-506 XDE plasma (native 1280x768).

The only consoles I've tested so far are the SNES, Saturn and PS2.

The SNES works great. Even though I'm quite happy with the scaling in the Pioneer without the XRGB, I couldn't stand how pixelated everything looked and the scanlines give the smooth image that I really like.

However, I'm having some huge problems with the PS2 and the Saturn (both connected with RGB) that I can't seem to fix with any setting. It seems whenever the input is 480i I get a really unstable image in B1 mode. It's immediately evident on the main menu of the PS2 and on high res title screens on the Saturn. Radiant Silvergun on the Saturn for example, looks fine in the options menu (which looks low res) but is very unstable on the title screen (which looks higher res).

You can check out videos of this on my Youtube channel:
http://www.youtube.com/ikaruga74

Some notes:
  • * I don't get this instability in B0 mode or when connecting the consoles directly to the TV so it doesn't seem to be caused by low quality cables (the PS2 is the original).
  • * I get the same effect using SVideo (stable in B0, unstable in B1) so it doesn't seem to be the 21-pin input of the XRGB-3
  • * LPF off/on makes no differece.
  • * I have hooked it all up to my PC monitor as well and it gives the same results.
I would really appreciate any help from you guys. It seems many of you are able to get very good images with the Saturn and PS2.

Have you tried changing the 5.8 setting called AFCレベル ? You will need to change the setting just above before you can adjust AFCレベル. Maybe that'll help :)

Yes, I tried the AFC but it doesn't improve things unfortunately. 0-5 looks very similar, 6 looks a bit worse and I don't get an image at all at 7.

I'm going to try to downgrade the firmware and see if that has any effect. I'm reaching for straws here :?

Not true. Tint and Color settings are only available when the input is set to either S-Video1/2 or Composite1/2. Were they always present on previous FW, regardless of set input?

The XRGB-3 is not good with 480i, try using it for 240p only.

FULL_HD doesn't seem to fix anything! :)

I can display 1920x1080 in B0 via analog RGB on my XBR8. However, regardless of Low/High setting, my TV will not display 1080p via a DVI to HDMI connection! Artemio was the only one who claimed that this setting might increase 1080p compatibility for his particular scenario.

All I've noticed FULL_HD do is darken the screen slightly (similar to what V Sync Lock does when you turn it on). If I switch from High to Low, I have to power cycle the XRGB-3 before the same level of brightness returns... same for VSync. :?

Perhaps it's time to start using B0 mode... ;)

my bad, didn't try S-Video or Composite in a very long time - sorry!

What the XRGB-3 does in B1 when fed with 480i images is simulate a CRT by alternating the fields it shows. No real deinterlacing is done. The effect you see could be caused the the scanline setting you've done while on a 240p input. Even with 480i input the XRGB does produce dark scanlines, but they are very thin and through your display's scaling to 768p you get this effect. Try to deactive the scanlines by setting the VL_V option to 255. This way the 240 lines per field are simply doubled without any dark lines in between. Could do the trick on your display. Try it!

You should try S-Video, since Akumajo seems to think S-Video looks no different than RGB! ;) :P

Parry, Parry, Parry.... lol... you have some off ideas unfortunately... :) I think just about everyone knows that your statement was fundamentally incorrect, though you can't seem to admit it.... 8) Unless there was something completely wrong with the RGB output your particular SNES and Saturn (bad parts and/or cabling), but that's a stretch. :)

Besides, since you have a line of contact at Micomsoft, you should ask them what exactly the FULL_HD setting is supposed to do...
