12 months of XBL Gold for $35
Re: 12 months of XBL Gold for $35
Infinite months of PSN, or any PC game service: $0.
Sorry, couldn't help myself. I just think it's ridiculous that Microsoft charges for their online service and that people pay for it.

I can't speak for others, but as for me, I'd end up paying for it anyway, even though I already have a PS3 and PC. I love Senko no Ronde's multiplayer, and there's no cheaper/more convenient way of enjoying it than on the 360.

I trust leaderboard integrity on 360 more than I ever would with PSN. 360 is the only group that really tries to combat the FPS cheating. PC is a wildcard but the openness of everything leads to a higher quantity of cheaters. I'll pay top dollar for the 'universal' moderation.

I had xbox live for a few months when Halo 2 was still big (I know I was young and naive!) but as I'm mostly a PC gamer I didn't see the need of continuing my subscription. Now my Xbox 360's dead and I don't see the need to get it fixed. I can understand the cost of Xbox live to a point though, a lot goes on through Microsoft servers for a lot of their games and look at what blizzard charges for WoW.

As long as you find a good dedicated server with good moderators, in a game that has some sort of anticheat, you won't see many cheaters. I've been playing PC games for a very long time and don't come across many cheaters at all. Nowadays I barely ever see them in TF2 or CS:S or DoD:S, and when I do they get kicked quickly. Longer ago when I played Star Wars Jedi Outcast frequently online there were more cheaters, since that game had no anti-cheat as I recall, but they would still get kicked quickly. It's not a big issue unless you're on a server with poor moderation, and hey, some people prefer servers where everybody can screw around with scripts or cheats. Part of PC gaming is the freedom to make that choice. I've had lots of fun from a group of friends in a private server flying around and clipping through walls and whatnot.DJ Incompetent wrote:I trust leaderboard integrity on 360 more than I ever would with PSN. 360 is the only group that really tries to combat the FPS cheating. Thanks for the tip Cuilan.
Apparently I had $20 in some sort of promotional gift from amazon that I did not even know about. So I ended getting the card for $15. This also reminded me to take off auto renewal for XBL. It was going to renew at the end of the month.
Now I just have to wait for my 360 to come back from RROD repairs. It just got dropped off at the repair center today. I'm guessing I'm going to be waiting for at least a month.

It depends. When my Japanese 360 got the RROD, the entire process took like a week or less.Gozer wrote:Now I just have to wait for my 360 to come back from RROD repairs. It just got dropped off at the repair center today. I'm guessing I'm going to be waiting for at least a month.

It's $30 at Wal-mart now, and apparently it's 30 flat because Wal-mart's systems consider this a gift card.

Indeed. If you buy cards at Blockbuster they treat it the same way. ...at least with PSN...SFKhoa wrote:http://www.walmart.com/Xbox-12-Month-Go ... 1601260350

Re: 12 months of XBL Gold for $35
I know the local Gamestop used to not charge sales tax on XBL point cards, but somewhere along the way that changed, and they get sales tax added on for me now. PSN cards still have no tax, but that's because purchases on PSN end up getting taxed individually (which means a $20 card isn't enough to buy a $20 item on PSN, making the whole thing kind of worthless really. Since PSN arbitrarily rejects the debit card I try to use, I can't do that either.

$30 for a year? Holy crap, that's cheap. In Sweden, a 12 month gold membership costs $85...
