Accuracy of NES port of Millipede

Post by Andi »

I'm considering purchasing the NES port of Millipede. However (unsurprisingly) none of the reviews compare it with the arcade version. How does the NES version stack up (graphically and otherwise) against the Atari original arcade version?

Thanks a lot.

The graphics are better, but the playing arena is smaller. Like they have a sidebar for scores and stuff on the right and the playing area on the left.

either way it gets boring after awhile, I'm more of a Robotron man. best gets it for cheap and not something like $8 for a single cart.

That's what I thought from the screens I had seen. Does the smaller screen really change the dynamic of the play that much?

I'm a Robotron man too. There is nothing I love more in life than saving a last human family or two.

The NES version has two difficulty settings instead of the three score settings like the arcade. If I remember correctly, it has smaller sprites than the arcade. It's a good port, though I personally prefer the Atari 2600 version since it's more accurate to the arcade in some ways and can be played with Trak-Ball.

Millipede is a good version for the NES, although the lack of trackball control does hamper it slightly (too bad Atari and Nintendo didn't join forces on the NES). I've noticed some of the later extend marks get somewhat high compared to the original arcade version.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Good information. Thanks a lot. I'm not too concerned with the intracacies of the scoring or graphical authenticity so I'll probably go ahead and pick it up.
