Changing chips on M92 B-boards?
Changing chips on M92 B-boards?
Is it possible to change the eproms of games that run in combination the M92 motherboard? To change regions for instance.

Re: Changing ROM's possible on M92?
This thread would most likely belong in the hardware section, right?
I've always wondered about this as well. Irem's Ninja Baseball Batman PCB a M-92 PCB.

Yeah, you're probably right >_<
So, if some moderator can be arsed to clean up the mess I've created and get this thread over to the hw section, I'd be grateful ^_^

Nope. Each B board is unique to the individual game it was designed for. I've tested this trying to convert In The Hunt to R-Type Leo. In my experiences, I was never able to get the game's sound to work properly. After reviewing an original R-Type, I noticed that one custom sound decryption IC was a different part number than the one found on ITH, despite them having the same exact PCB layout.
You can swap out the entire B board for another. The A board is purely for CPU, Audio hardware, and some graphics.

Actually I wanted to know if I could change the B board's EPROMs (if socketed). To turn i.e. a World version of Undercover Cops into a Japanese one.

It's very likely you can re-region them.

If you compare in Mame ROM_START( uccops ) with ROM_START( uccopsj ) you will see, that all CRC/SHA1 are different between both versions, it looks like changing the region is pain in the ass in this case as you would need to change 15 Roms

Yeah you're right, interestingly there's another version too - 'Alpha Renewal Version' - which is listed as an entire set, but matches the Japanese set except for just two ROMs. Someone should probably point that out to them.
Looks like you can swap US/World easily enough though.
