Thanks for the head up !
It's sad Crimson Clover is not ready. The only serious shmup without loli :(
I know Alltynex will be out in 5 years or so :)

heh, GloriousLight is my youtube account (just in case, mentioning this).

By the way, the game will be RefRain ~Prism Memories~ by RebRank. Still a demo so I'm assuming this will be going a lot of bug testing to fix all the stuff they messed up on the latest Comiket-only releases.

Alltynex 2nd... knowing Siter Skain, yeah, it can take a couple of years. He's been showing screenies of later stages but since this is 3D it's not as easy to program all the camera movement and crap and make it look decent. Besides, he might even get an attack of efficiency and try to re-texture everything like the Ether Vapor guys did.

Sad about Crimzon Clover indeed. According to his blog, no participation but a demo on "early 2010". If Cave doesn't release for PC, at least this one will help. I'm also scared he decides to skip the demo release, wait for Comiket 78 and release a trial then... So much wait. And he might probably tease us with a new video with the new graphics.

Another sad thing is that most will apparently be demos. But from these demos, Erst Kerf really stood out. It still needs some polish but, as people said, a game that appears to be a dungeon crawler that actually behaves like a shooter (enemies fire bullet patterns, you can take cover, obtain a full inventory of mass destruction, cancel bullets, collect point items and such) and forces you to move fast to avoid backtracking and such is quite interesting.

edit: a pity, yep, but it seems Alternative Sphere will be the one 'winning' this Comiket. Which isn't much to say given it doesn't have much of a competition... I'm just glad the game is actually damn fine and, if I'm not wrong, the first using HDR and other nice effects, yet it's not browned-bloomed or color-devoid.

 So it was Mr White in the drawing room with the candlestick , Hehe i knew it would be a regular from this forum.

About Erst Kerf, I really loved the game but how diifficult was it? i seemed to me that there was just too many pillars etc that u could hide behind instead of dodging bullets like in a normal shmup. This seemed to me to make the boss fights alot more easier then they could of been. Still i dont have to hide behind pillars if i dont want to and plus it looks a funj game, even if the character could do with abit of animation.

I think youre right about AS 'winning' c77, i havnt played it yet but it looks very very nice.

The problem with hiding and running like there is no tomorrow is that you ARE punished for doing that constantly: by a rate meter and by a time counter. If you take too long or waste too much time you practically get no end of stage bonuses so you have to shoot and aim fast.

And you are encouraged to come closer because enemies have a certain range and you need them to fire, preferably closer to giant enemies that cancel out bullets or those mines that can trigger a bullet clearing aura (you fly inside the patterns, cancelling a lot for "big massive score bonuses"). On Stage 3 you even get chased by an army of enemies so running and luring all of them to the bullet-cancel mines seems to be the strategy.

According to the PV posted by the author (who found my vids too, lol) the last stage has some sort of artificial forward scrolling (!??!) in the shape of a red sphere/aura that slowly moves in the right direction. You have to stay inside that aura or else you start taking damage... and the sphere size isn't that big so you are going to get rained by bullet patterns quite a lot.

Certainly, I found it to be quite a daring idea because the fact that you can take cover or flee needs to be done with care. Exception had this too with invincible cubes you could use to cover your poor little cube against the "Big Laz0rs (c)" and other threats.

Again, like Omega Boost helped you stay on action with the "Scan", here the map+arrows and the time/rate constraints force you to keep moving forward. Guess it also prevents boss milking.

edit about AS: it's pretty much the only full original regular 2D vert being released. eXceed rd doesn't count since it's a re-imagining of the previous. I hope the Crimzon Clover dude makes haste... Ketsui-like brutality for PC is more than welcomed.

Where does everybody in Japan buy such games from? I tried to look on Siter Skain site to see if they where selling RefleX on the site, but there was nothing...

you'll be checking out places like himeyashop and paletweb, usually

for people in Japan, they'd go to the events and buy the games there. I guess they wind up on other online shops or in certain stores after that

The play mechanics for Erst Kerf sound really intresting and addresses all the problems i may of had playing it, If there is one, ill have DL the demo and give it a whirl.

In Japan apart from conventions like Comiket (c77), i believe most doujin games are sold in shops that sell all the other doujinshi manga/ porn etc. I could be wrong but i beleive Mail order is not that established. There are some sites like Melon Books ( http://www.melonbooks.co.jp/ ) and D-Stage ( http://d-stage.com/ )

Here are some Mail Order for outside Japan
http://www.paletweb.com/search.asp?Sort ... &YM1=&YM2=
http://www.himeyashop.com/index.php/cPath/62_63
I dont know if this site ships outside japan but they have reflex in stock http://www.doujinshop.com/doujin/softtop.htm

For (english) Online Downloading theres rockin android and curious factory http://www.curiousfactory.com/publish/games/meglilo.php
I think this site might be part of Curious Factory aswell http://eng.dlsite.com/adultcheck/=/_que ... e.com%252F

If youre still out of luck try the same sites after C77 (30/12) as siter skain might of released another run of Reflex at c77 since they will be there with the demo of Altynex 2nd anyway

edit: yea i know igb said the same as me but i just couldnt be arsed amending my post :)

Pretty much what you guys said. It's usually those doujinshi shops: Messe-Sanoh, Melonbooks, Tora No Ana and White Canvas. There are indeed others like Gprep, Paletweb and Himeyashop. The last two are also official distributors of the recent Touhouvania and some of the keychains/dolls. Quite unexpected.

White Canvas does international shipping but you'll want to consider ordering a lot of stuff, paying 1k yen of comission+EMS shipping:

http://www.w-canvas.com/main.html (they have a Yahoo store too)

But shouldn't be hard for anyone who could pay for a japanese 360+shipping or Cave schmukmups (let's remember doujin thingies run from 300 yen to 2k at most with a standard of 1.5k or so for most shooters).

I'm not sure but maybe GaijinPunch could look for this kind of things? (He's in Japan right?)

RefleX will be indeed sold at Comiket 77, Messe-Sanoh has it along with Kamui, Cloudphobia (although you can purchase this one online much cheaper) and Hellsinker (reprinted back in september... thank god).

TrevHead (TVR): You can get the demo here

http://www.vector.co.jp/soft/winnt/game/se480431.html (Vector link)

Once you start playing you forget about the player model (and other inconsistencies) and focus on the action and the mechanics.

They have the RefleX game and the RefleX Orginal Soundtrack listed, but I have no clue if it is still being offered for sale...

You can find it here (Messe-Sanoh): http://www.doujinshop.com/doujin/user_t ... gs=sp06909
And here (White Canvas): http://www.w-canvas.com/shopping/detail ... m_id=24879

Soundtrack is sold out everywhere... I found that the hard way. But it'll probably be restocked after Comiket so wait after january for that one.

Yup. Someone in Japan has already been looking for it in the past months but couldn't find it anywhere. Let's not forget these things have small print runs in the order of less than 300-500 copies or worse (sometimes it's just 100). But, as I said, it should be re-commissioned in most stores after Comiket, or at least in a couple of them... Fingers crossed!

Yeah let's hope so,

Anyway I am about to buy a couple of Doujin, obviously RefleX is included.

What would you guys say are the best (or must have Doujins)?

So far I am thinking of:

RefleX
Kamui (have it already)
Ether Vapor
Cloudphobia

Anything else? Understand there are many crap in the doujin scene, so it's hard to find these gems between all these piles of poo.

I havnt played yet but the 2 best games out this comiket are worth it from what ive seen heard (alt sphere/ black package)

RebRank's Samidare is a very good shmup
Hellsinker
exceed2 if u like ikuraga's red/white mechanic (i think there are 2 versions of exceed2)
basically any game off ite7's best doujin you tube vid, plus touhou

if u play horis Bike Bandits and Trouble witches are worth alook

a personal fav of mine is zillion beats, the boss fights are ryhmn based, hard but alot of fun (try out the demo 1st)

Then theres always astroport and orange juices games u can DL online cheaply (all are english translated)

Right after I was done watching a youtube video of Samidare, I saw your message mentioning this game hehe.

Anyway I found all the games I am looking for except Ether Vapor, is there no hope of finding a copy of this game?

Trouble Witch and Diadra Empty are both really stellar for doujin games. Make sure you patch up to the latest versions because both games change quite a lot over the versions.

another freeware shmup called Scarlet Agony is in development (different developer as genetos) v0.2 has just been posted for download. http://www.senro.net/stg/stg.htm
i have had the chance to try it out myself as ive just come across the information, the screen shots look good enough for me to give it a play soon

I havnt played the demo myself so all i can ask is a basic question, have u set up your pc to show kanji and/or running applocale? if not u really need to set up japanese language on a pc that plays doujin games

You meant you "haven't had the chance to try it out", right? Anyway, this game is fantastic... The demo is 2 stages long and stops at the beginning of stage 3, past that the games resets but awsome game. Is it going to be sold at C77 or something?

No, but all the other Doujin works, even Scarlet Agony which displays gibberish instead of japanese language (I can't install the language pack, because I have Windows XP SP3 and my disc only covers up to SP2).

Anyway I found this site:

http://www.doujinsuki.com/

It lists many of the Doujins, but it's in french.

Doujin Suki is a damn good website for everything doujin. It's where i got 75% of the info on this thread. I still wish its circle / game database was a bit bigger though.

I checked the author site, he'll be selling somethig but didn't state price and he's been VERY vague with the info. Looks like three stages only that run as a single, long one without much indicators of change. And it's version 0.02, way too early to even be considered full (1.00).

Don't know what to think. I tried it and the game has a complete unfinished aura... It tries to be like Ketsui with a point-blanking mechanic but sometimes you pretty much have to almost ram at the enemy to get the full points, it's ridiculous. The character movement is slow and everything is quite lifeless. Not that good really...

Thanks, guess I won't pick it up regardless of what it is (Demo or Full version) either way. The 0.03 Demo crash right after I have it launch, even worse than the 0.02 demo version.

Touhou Invaders - strawberry guy - http://strawberryguy.web.fc2.com/
Touhou Qix ++ - TMC Games - http://tmcgame.web.fc2.com/_products_02.html

Miko blaster 2 you tube vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kveWW6zQacw

Also worth noting is that Studio steamrock with c76s sole sinner http://www.geocities.jp/studiosteamrock/ are among a number of other circles that are releasing their old titles so its always worth rechecking online stores after a comiket for games that were previously out of stock.

here are some sites that are worth browsing if you want infomation.

I'll add newStage from Liarsoft:

http://stg.liarsoft.org/

Plenty of news there too.

I?ve been playing Miko Blaster 2 trial and it's interesting, in a sense that it's doing that 'old school' thing instead of danmaku but using lolis and such. For many, the putrid communion of doom. Maybe a breath of fresh air after so much danmaku. Next to Erst Kerf, they are the two that stand out. On the regular vertical pew pew, it's Alternative Sphere. eXceed 3rd looks good, has nice production values for a doujin but... it's not cutting it for me.

I tried the version 0.03 of The Chaste Metal Maiden pointed by Lawfer and, he's right, it's indeed even worse than the previous. If this is going to be send as a full at Comiket, it's a train wreck. =/

Re: C77 Doujin Games

Hell i thought wtf and broke my personal rule of not playing a demo unless ita try b4 i buy, which is mainly to do with really wanting to play refrain after watching videos of it the past couple of days.

Ive just tried out v0.03 of chaise maiden and i found the boss fights quite challenging in normal mode but they took way too long to kill without the blast power up especially the stage 3 boss. Another part i didnt like was that alot of the stages were too sparse of enemies and too easy 80% of the time. Although the reason i found the boss fights quite difficult is because its been quite a long time since ive played a cave like bullet hell and the ones i do play genrally have slower bullets and a slow down button that i use to dodge between the bullets (like BWR). I did like that the game wont let you be lazy and stay near the bottom center of the screen (which i can tend to do at times) I didnt bother looking into the score mechanics tbh.

Using win xp sp3 with jap language pack installed i did come across a couple of bugs, first is that it freezes most of the time when switching between windowed to fullscreen, luckly it remembers which mode it was in when you close the program. Secondly out of the 3 or 4 goes i had it wouldnt let me enter my name in the highscores for half of the time. which would piss me off if that bug was in the final version.

Its not the worst shmup to play by far its just that ive got better games that ive still to play to be really bothered about it. Without the highscore bug others may really dig it if they give it a chance.

Now onto refrain :D
