I don't think it was mentioned that while setting up scanlines, etc. you can hold the left shoulder button to make the menu transparent.

I'm finding Maniac pretty difficult with the 360 pad even by the second boss due to how tight the bullets get. I might have to put it aside until I get a better input device. No problem reaching stage 4 on original, though. It's a very different (and much easier) game.

Original's poor feedback when to switch shots is disappointing. Yes, you can probably get used to it, but they should make reading the interface as painless as possible rather than adding challenge through it. Changing the counter to red would have been easier to read out of the corner of your eye (and Maniac's chain bar does this!), or even a sound effect every 500.

I think Black Label's original mode does play a sound when the color switches, if I recall...I do agree it should have been implemented from the beginning, though.

Oh god, Abnormal Palm is SO FREAKING FUN. Ahahahahaha, I finally beat Larsa in Novice Original... TWICE! Yaaay~ Both were 1CCs, although the second win was in score attack, with like, 3 lives left, so I was happy. I wanted a no-miss clear, though, since that would've been a first for me. I can't yet avoid some stupid mistakes in Novice Original.

Arrange is fun, but confuses me to death, Maniac is worse. 1.5 Ultra was hilarious, if only because I actually began dodging some ridiculous patterns after a continue before dying. :O I still haven't tried Novice Ultra yet, but Original 1.5 is probably what I should shoot for once I clear Novice Original with Reco.

I'm kind of high on bullet hell right now, don't mind me... Wheeee~

I've no idea why I didn't do this in the first place: they offered my impeccable customer service when I got my JX360, something that was worth the extra pennies, frankly. I can tell you for nothing that I'm going to be getting ESPGaluda 2 Black Label from videogameimports.com. Though this realisation is of little consequence as I stare at my empty doormat day after day

That's where I got my copy from (as well as most of my shooters). Lee is the man. DLC iincluded.

Yeah, BL does. It isn't that hard without sound, you do eventually get used to it and half your time will be spent looking at it providing you have dodging foresight.

it's not really.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Trust me, if you ever tried playing Original mode for score, you'd want it. Makes me want to get Black Label DLC just for that one feature.

Colors are the other way around (regular on green, "focused" on blue) - same idea for "Original" mode across all versions of the game, IIRC.

:( Same. I ordered two copies. Extra one more or less for support and it'll be the one i play (Standard Edition), while i just keep the LE sealed (Pricey!).

Both shipped on the 25th (One from NCSX, another from ebay). Still waiting on them. But while they take this long to come, i just ordered a HRAP EX-SE (Amazon have them for 89.99 o.O HRAP EX-SE-Amazon.com ). I live in Australia though, so from the times so far, my copies of Futari should come within the next few days, and by mid-Jan, my brother will be bringing back from the US with him, my Hori. Also have my LCD stand coming soon so i can TATE. Honestly, can't wait when i put all this together, as I'm looking forward to some quality time revisiting the shmup scene, as it's been a bit too long :)

has anyone else using a 4:3 CRT had to set the aspect to 5:4 to get it more accurate? the aura that's sometimes around the player is round right?

Don't let that aura trick you into thinking the screen is badly setup, that's how it is in all the arcades, for Mushihime-Sama as well.

This is the first time I've got back into this game for about a year and shit, the purple spam difficulty spike after the stage 3 boss is brutal.

1cc'd Novice Ultra with plenty of misses in Score Attack. My final score was apparently pretty awful. I know I can do better, I just seem to misjudge the hitbox, not quite used to it yet. Novice Ultra is fun though. It's like one of those toohoos. There really is something here for everyone I think.

I made some custom instruction stickers for 360. I have these in 300dpi if someone want them.

They look like this:

And:

And one with blue clouds like the original one:

Edit: Changed "Reko" to "Reco".

These are based on the pictures available on the Futari homepage that's linked to in the OP.

Those move strips are cool. One note: the official romanization is "Reco." :)

Thanks. Let me know if there's any other error in the strips, especially if it's referring to gameplay mechanics.

Edit: Fixed spelling to Reco in previous post.

Those are excellent. Would be great to have a quick ref visual guide like that briefly explaining scoring in all the various modes. I still don't fully understand Normal Maniac mode despite reading several guides!

Well, watch the tutorial next time you play. :D The space on those stickers are way to small to fit any of that, so basic button and fire configuration is really more important. Hence the similar display on the original strips.

I was doing so well in Score Attack today, until Stage 5 rolled in and SHOT ME DOWN. There goes my no-miss Novice Original clear. I've noticed that when playing for score, sometimes I just get worse, so now I simple switch shots to maximize the number of gems I grab, with my Focus Shot being used for mini bosses and bosses (I use Abnormal Palm, still.) I've basically gotten an idea of what Stages 1-4 do, in terms of memorization, but Stage 5 remains a total bitch. -_-;

Today marks the first day I've grabbed two extends in a run, though, so that makes me happy. I kept my first extend up until Stage 5 shot me once, and then I won a second, and then it killed me again (before I could get the floating 1-Up). Mind you, this run wasn't a complete mess-up, considering I beat Larsa again while cursing creatively. XD

Oh, and I got sniped out of the air in Stage 2 of 1.5 Xbox 360 mode...

Took me a few tries to get the hang of stage 2, but it ain't so bad. Stage 3 might make you cringe a bit. Just keep an eye out for the enemies that cancel bullets, and it will make that stage WAY easier. And Abnormal Palm is the way i'm tackling this game also.
