Where is it supposed to be available? I don't see it on the US store. Is it buried in Home or on the Japanese store?

I think it's just a "space" on the Japanese version of HOME?

Looks awful for what I connect with R-Type, for a space shooter though I think it looks like it was kind of fun for 30 minutes.

They used R-Type Final music almost everywhere...

Also, that game looks awful. Fly around in a boat shooting at random, sparse enemies for a minute or two. Awesome.

Wow, that looked very awkward and only fun for the 2 minutes of Fuel/Gameplay you get.
So it's probably a perfect fit for Home.

I played it.. what a sad thing. It's also Japanese-heavy. Anyway, the whole thing is more like an R-Type experience than a game, like a virtual amusement park ride. With VR goggles it would be really something, wandering around R-Type HQ, watching the huge space war take place outside, seeing weird IREM fanatics with R-Type ship hats and whatever, all while epic, authentic R-type music is playing =)

Here's how to access the game, if you don't know Japanese:

1. Get a Japanese PSN account (see elsewhere how to do that)
2. Login
3. Once you're in Home, press Start
4. Select the second menu item
5. Select the first menu item
6. Select IREM's Home Space
7. Select the last Space in IREM's list (some dark image that looks R-typish)
8. *ZAP* You're in R-Type HQ. Go down to the ship hangar.
9. Go to the ship that's farthest from the entrance, the Arrowhead (the other two, Warhead and Wise Man, are currently under maintenance)
10. Hang around at the area near the cockpit until you see an option to do something with X button. If there is too much crowd and you only get people's names, try pressing R3 first.
11. Answer a question (the last option throws you back)
12. Go fight BYDO!
Before Pope John Paul died he decreed that Aliens were also GOD's creatures and we should treat them with respect.

The game looks really disappointing. Also, it's quite clear that it's certainly OT material.

strange i could only watch the gameplay footage once and after that u tube does a computer sez no, that its a private vid.

anyway I love my colony wars/ freespace space sim games so it would of been mega if irem made a full game out of it and made it multi format. considering irens change of r-type into (i believe) a rts type game the chances of a full game been made in the future are abit higher then nill.

Aslong as the original fans of a franchise are catered for (which i dunno if that s the case with r type) then putting it into a slightly different genre is a great move, if i played level 1 of the original r-type but in a space sim I would be having a blast plus giving me a retro / nostalga feeling. Doing this sort of thing is even better for games you loved as a kid but if you when back and played them today they suck and tarnish those fond memories you originally had.

I changed my mind about this whole thing, actually really enjoyed it.

You're welcome! I see Gamasutra's GameSetWatch blog liked the photo tour as well. :)
