RQ : Scoring in Last Battalion/Override (X-68000/PC-Engine)

Post by Hydeux »

Been playing Override on PC-Engine (not bad, quite fast but pretty easy) and decided to try the X-68000 version but after stage 1 :

Image

Counter-stop ?!? (my second one, first was on DUX... )
I explain what happened : when you fight a boss, a timer (from 100 000) appears and decreases, when it reaches zero, a second one replaces it (from 9 999 990) and decreases as well, when you kill the boss you get as bonus points the number showed by the timer... insane !

Can someone confirm/explain this ? or have I just a crap version ?
Thanx for your answers !

Yeah it happens on my version when I play it on xm6, its annoying having to sit there for a minute waiting for the counter to go down. That and the blue spiral attack the first boss does flickers to no end so it becomes invisible more than half the time, which is annoying. Will have to try it on a different emu or download a different version if there is one available.

've not seen any other version (I play it through Win68kHighSpeed), and I've just seen on the Sting official site ( http://www.sting.co.jp/play/battalion/download.htm ) you can download a trial version of the game containing only the first level but with exactly the same scoring "system".

Typical Sting quality. ;)

Please ignore this if you like Sting!

From what I remember, it happens on real hardware as well.

Override on the PCE is just as bad. It only takes 8 loops, but the counter rolls over to 0 then crazy stuff happens.

You mean the game crashes when the counter rolls back to zero ?
(8 loops ? man you ARE patient ! I stopped on the third, bored...)

It's been awhile but, if I remember correctly, one the score loops you gain an extra life for each enemy destroyed...or something like that.

There's a thread somewhere around here detailing what happens...though search fails to find it for me.
